The general welfare requirements in work settings that have a legal duty to comply with children’s health, safety and well-being which must be met by practitioners. It is important that practitioner gets a copy of the standards or welfare requirements that apply in the setting such as day care or pre-school. The welfare requirements are compulsory in settings as it’s important for practitioner’s to read them as their setting may have a legal duty to comply with them.

•Suitable people
•Organisation
•Documentations
•Suitable premises environments and equipment

Documentation- The documents mean the records that all settings should have, which are mainly about private details of children and the staff that works in the setting. The practitioner would need to read the documents as they are likely to contribute to the records when, for example parents tell them they are moving home.

General legal requirements:
•The provider must take necessary steps to safeguard and promote the welfare of children
•The provider must promote the good health of the children, take necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection, and take appropriate action when they are ill.
•Children behaviour must be managed effectively and in a manner appropriate for their stage of development and particular individual needs
Areas to which specific legal requirement and statutory guidance apply:
Safeguarding- information and complaints, premises and security, outings, equality of opportunities
Health- medicine, illness and injuries, food and drinks, smoking
