...“Should Teachers Carry Guns in School?” The Premier Online Debate Website, www.debate.org/opinions/should-teachers-carry-guns-in-school./works cited page This website was important and critical to my essay because it offered ideas that supported my thesis on why teachers should be allowed to have a gun in school. The questions of students getting their hands on the gun, mentally unstable adults being able to get their hands on the gun and training the teachers were answered. Ideas on how to make sure that the teacher is mentally capable of protecting the students, the gun is well hidden and no one who wants to harm the students gets the gun were given by many people. Many people digged deeper into other issues besides a student getting the weapon. Different avenues were explored and the people on both sides had something about this topic to say. 2. “Arming Teachers and School Staff - School Security.” School Security, National School Safety and Security Services, www.schoolsecurity.org/trends/arming-teachers-and-school-staff/. ...I think legally teachers should be able to carry guns at school because if anything bad were to happen then they would have some sort of armed Having more people armed would deter shooters looking for an easy targetprotection to keep the students and themselves safe from harm's way. School shooting happen a lot, And I believe they need to be stopped or at least get some type of way from inside of the building to keep students and staff safe. The Parkland shooting demonstrated police are not always reliable which is not always their fault. Police are sometimes limited and cannot be everywhere at once meaning response times can vary. the individual should be willing to take the responsibility to defend themselves. Being armed would help...

...Arming Teachers Throughout the recent years gun violence has been on the rise, particularly gun violence on school campuses. Unfortunately, within the recent years to present day, there has been an increase of shooting at colleges, high schools, and even elementary schools. Teachers’ unarmed in these dangerous situations causes a lot more deaths among students and teachers themselves. Little is being done to counteract these dangerous situations, guns should be in the hands of the teachers. If some teachers decide to OPT OUT of carrying a gun, then that teacher class should be in proximity of another teacher that is carrying a gun. Teachers that carry guns on school property should go through the proper training of shooting a gun properly, this would prevent less deaths in schools and save more lives. The statistics of school shootings are...

...like any other day. All of a sudden, two of your classmates walk in with guns, shooting you and your fellow peers. The idea might sound far off, but that is what happened at the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999. According to a school safety timeline, “Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, go on a shooting rampage and kill 12 students and one teacher, wound 23 others and then kill themselves” (School Safety Timeline). Weapons were not allowed at the high school, but that did not stop the students. However, there is a large debate going on about whether or not teachers and college students should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on school grounds for self-defense. If teachers and university...

...believe that putting guns in classrooms will solve the issue of school shootings. That by putting the object that is causing this issue into the hands of someone who is not able to handle a gun adequately will stop the shootings from happening. The teachers for whom it is legal to carry guns are usually undereducated about using the weapon in a crisis. By putting guns in classrooms, administrators are making it that much easier for a gun related incident to occur in school. Arming teachers has become a widely known controversial topic. Whether or not the government will agree to arm teachers is a mystery, but that does not stop parents all around the country from voicing their opinions. Having guns...

...The future safety of our children There has been 74 school shooting in American since the sandy hooks shooting, that means one every week (O’Conner Molly, Carrol and Lauren). Would schools be safer if the professors or teachers carried a hand gun? Yes they would. School shooting are happening more and more. Just in the last couple of weeks there have been about three shooting at colleges where people were injured or killed. Some parents from a school in Texas think it is a bad idea because they said “the teachers are trained to teach our children not carry a gun” (Gainesville SunAug 26 2008), but others said that they felt that their children were safe with their teachers carrying a fire arm (Gainesville SunAug 26 2008). In cases like the Sandy Hook shooting, if the teachers in those class rooms would have had a gun to protect the students and themselves, then there might have been less deaths. The teachers that carry the weapons should be psych tested every six months so that authorities can know if they will endanger the children....

...Teachers should be armed, teachers should not be armed. These statements are being spread throughout america as we speak, and with each statement there is an opinion. The teachers should be armed in order to protect students in school nationwide. Teachers should carry guns because, doing nothing is not working, students should be protected, and this movement would save many lives. As well, teachers should be armed in case of an emergency. Doing nothing about this problem, is not solving anything. The article, “After another deadly school shooting, is it time for US teachers to carry guns?” Explains that at least 17 people died after a 19-year-old shot up Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. ...Should students, teachers, or any school executive be allowed to carry a gun to school? Guns should be allowed in schools because if somebody is going to walk in the school sending gun threats to frightened students or start firing their weapon. Who is going to protect you through the long five or so minutes, or until he runs out of ammunition? Although some may argue that guns should not be allowed in schools because young adults in school are not mature enough to carry a gun, because of a short disposition, or trying to show out. Students, teachers, or any school executive should be allowed to carry a gun to school to protect their Second Amendment right( right to bear arms), and the right to protect themselves in any public school function, event, or during school hours. One reason why guns should be allowed in schools, is because in the fifties and sixties young adults were allowed to carry weapons in the truck/car and there have never really been any big problems. Knives were used in schools everyday for everyday uses, and there was never a big problem with bad dispositions....

Students would be aware that the teacher cared for them as an individual. What message is being sent? What message are mentors, coaches...

...about 23 school shooting in 2018 alone. That is a huge problem. There are several ways that we can prevent more from happening. I am going to contact my local Representive John Moolenaar on https://moolenaar.house.gov/ . Certain teachers in schools could carry a concealed gun. School campuses should have police officers. In addition, all entrances should be secured and have metal detectors. I believe that certain teachers should carry a gun. 172 school districts in Texas allow staff and/or board members to carry firearms on school premises (Beatriz.1). And out of the 172 school’s districts there has been no school shootings. If the schools where the shootings has occurred, if the teachers would have had guns there would have...

...McAuley English 1101 14 July 2015 Should school administrators be allowed to have firearms on school grounds? I think they should be able to have guns on campus. They can be allowed to have them with the proper training and the proper certification to handle a gun. Administrators who carry guns must have and maintain a handgun license; pass a psychological evaluation; and undergo firearms and emergency response training. The administrators can be allowed to have a firearm if they wish to if they wish to go that extra mile to keep their students safe. They will not be forced to have a gun if they do not wish to. With so many school shootings that have happened though out the years, I find that it will help keep the students safe. Having a gun on school campus will not stop the school shooting from happening. It will buy some time for the police to get there and handle the situation. If the teacher need to shoot the gun, with the proper training they will receive they will be able to know where to shoot and how to shoot. In order to have a gun in class the will have to keep it locked up where they only know where it is and they are the only ones to have a key to the lock. Many states are debating whether they should allow the students and school teacher to carry a gun on school campus. Oklahoma singed a bill last year where it is now legal for teachers and staff to carry guns on public school grounds. Texas just recently passed a bill allowing guns at college. Utah, Alabama, Kansas...

...After all the violence in schools that the country has suffered through recently, the biggest concern for everyone is how to be safe. I think that allowing teachers to have guns in classrooms will provide the comfort students need in school. Although most argue that only professional school public safety officials should carry concealed weapons, I believe that allowing teachers to carry guns will protect the students. Students will feel safe because if an intruder was to enter the school, almost every classroom would be armed, not just the one security officer in the other wing of the building. With that being said, I do not think that teachers should just be handed a class roster, name tag, and a gun on the first day of school. Instead, they should be psychologically analyzed, trained, and tested before handling the gun. If a teacher fails to meet the requirements needed to obtain the gun, the board could simply not let that specific teacher have one or replace him with someone who can meet the requirements. It will also be best if the gun is locked in a secret compartment that is student-proof but also easily accessible in case of emergency. To ensure extra security, an alarm could go off anytime a teacher opens the compartment that holds the gun so that everyone else in the school knows there is danger and can put their classrooms under lockdown. Allowing only security officers to carry weapons is what we’ve been doing in the past and read any newspaper to see how well that...

...Having guns in the classroom will more than likely increase the chance of gun related accidents; although only a very small chance there would previously have been no chance. Although there is no way of knowing if the effect would be the same in the classroom as on the streets. Teaching can be a very stressful and frustrating job and the teacher may get very angry with individual students, allowing teachers to carry guns would greatly increase the risk of an unpremeditated shooting against on a schoolchild. Callaway, Ewen, ‘Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot and killed” NewScientist, 6 October 2009, http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17922-carrying-a-gun-increases-risk-of-getting-shot-and-killed.html In Ewen Callaway’s article, “Carrying a gun increases risk of getting shot and killed” (06 October 2009), Ewen claims that people who carry guns are far likelier to get shot. Charles Brana’s team at the University of Pennsylvania analyzed 677 shootings over 2 ½ years to discover whether victims were carrying at the time, and compared them to other Philly residents of similar age, sex, and ethnicity. Studies show that people who carried a gun were 4.5 times as likely to get killed compared with unarmed citizens. Though it may be that the type of people who carry firearms are simply more likely to get shot, it may be that guns give a sense of empowerment that causes carriers to overreact intense situations. It may also encourage them to visit places they shouldn’t....
