Production and operational management systems began over 7000 years ago by Sumerian priests who realized they needed a means of tracking and recording such areas as inventory, loans, and business transactions. About one millennium later, the Egyptians improved these processes by planning and organizing construction projects such as the building of pyramids. To this day, these processes and those who control them are a vital part of the industry standard. Organizations across the globe continue to improve and evolve within these departments in order to remain a cut above the rest in a competitive business world (Wikipedia, 2015).
Production and Operations Departments have been referred to as traffic controllers. These teams have the responsibility of converting supply, manpower, customer demand, and assets into an efficiently running machine. They must be able to forecast and make the appropriate decisions within the production process to achieve the most successful results while staying within budget and established timelines. This is a cradle to the crave process requiring managers to supervise and implement necessary changes and sometimes restructure the production process in order to adjust to changes that may adversely affect the final outcome.
There are many different methods that can be used to run an efficient business. The tradition process is composed of several groups and control systems. This method can be broken down into five categories.
Initiation: This is probably the most important phase. This is when the scope of the project is developed and team is assembled. This is the birth of a cycle and must be planned with all aspects considered. Who is best fit for each responsibility through the cycle? What is the most efficient way to manufacture the product while maintaining a high quality standard? Where is the best location for the facility in order

Planning and Leading a Complex Team Activity

...ILM Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership M4.03 Planning and Leading a Complex Team Activity Assignment Task: Planning And Leading A Complex Team Activity 1.1 Define the purpose, aims and objectives of the activity When my training began with Wrightbus to become a first line manager in total there were six people setting out on the journey to lead teams on the production floor. As part of the ten week training programme the operations director handed us a group project where he wanted us as a group to introduce a new system to manage and maintain small tools owned by the company throughout the factory. This would obviously test our skills as team players and was obviously a massive challenge as the issues with tools not being managed correctly had been an ongoing problem within the company for a number of years. We quickly made an office known as the operations room our base and our first instinct was to have a brainstorming session together to gather thoughts on the task ahead so we all had an understanding of what lay ahead for us. The purpose, aims and objectives of the activity would need to be defined appropriately with the use of SMART objectives with the view that our goals and targets should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely. The main objectives of the project were as follows: * Identify the tools required for every Wrightbus job. * Identify the current inventory of tools being used on the shop floor. * Carry...

Team Training

...| Team training is defined as the act of working together to create beneficial results. It is putting persons with similar goals in a group to complete a task together with an outcome that is favorable to them all. My perception of team training was exactly what was done during our class session. It involved us participating in various activities that would require us to rely on the knowledge and expertise of the other members of the group that we were randomly assigned to. This training session however would be different because of the various cultures, backgrounds, and personalities represented. | The first team training exercise was a game called charades. It required us to learn how to converse with others without the use of words or sounds. We had to compete against the other team, and whoever guessed the most words correctly won the game. This particular exercise teaches the value of clear communication between team members and aids in building relationships. Trusting our ability to read body language was the next challenge and it was the most difficult. We would not only have to guess which person of the opposite team held a coin in their hand but which hand specifically. During this game, we did not trust in one of our members’ judgments and as a team, we should consider everyone’s opinion within the group. If one person has the ability to read body language, we should follow the advice of that team member since they have used their expertise to guess correctly...

Level 3 Public Services Unit 2 M4 Appraise Your Own Performance

...M4 – Appraise own performance in team activities Over the course of my time at college I participated in several different team activities this has made me aware of how I perform in a team and what strengths and weaknesses I posses The activities I participated in were: Bang minefield This activity involved several A4 sized cards laid out on the floor our teams objective was to cross from one side to the other. Some of the cards were blank which were safe to step on and some had the word bang written on them. If you step on the word bang your team has to go back to the beginning and start the task over. The leader of this task had to give us clear instructions and act as our eye as we were blindfolded. During this activity i was initially highly motivated to perform well I listened to the brief carefully and clarified the groups objective to make sure not only me but my whole team understood the task. As the task went on it got very tedious as we kept standing on the bang cards and had to keep starting over this made me lose interest in the tasks. Me being a natural leader I felt like my loss of interest impacted the team and caused our whole teams morale to drop. To prevent this I showed good confidence and made suggestions to the leader like us holding our leg in a position before placing it down so the leader can confirm we are stepping where he wants us to step. In this activity I acted as a Plant and came up with a new idea which allowed me to perform more effectively...
