...Case Application 2: TEAM FUN! Kenny and Norton own TEAM FUN!, a medium-sized company that manufactures and sells sporting goods and equipment. They are watching a CROSSKATES video about cross-country roller skates in the LOUNGE. Norton says, “I don’t know. This stuff looks dangerous! What do you think? Remember that bungee-jumping thing we tried?” Kenny responds, “Edna was out a long time with that knee problem. She sure is a good sport. Keith said we were lucky not to get sued for that. Do you think employees could sue us if they are hurt on product-test assignments?” “Let’s ask Tony,” Norton suggests. “That guy you hired as— what did you call him—director of human resources?” Kenny smiles broadly, “Yep. He sure seems to be busy. He’s pulled together all that paperwork for insurance and retirement that Edna used to handle and named her compensation and benefits manager.” “He wants to send Joe and Eric to a supervisor’s school for work scheduling, job team assignments, and project management,” Norton adds. “He started those picnics by the LAGOON for people to talk about work conditions and issues.” Kenny asks, “Do you think we should let him hire a full-time secretary? I thought Edna could do that, but Tony said she has a full plate. Did you tell him to do that employee bulletin board he tacked into the Web site?” Norton shakes his head no. “Me neither,” Kenny muses. “Wonder why he did that? Guess we’d better talk to him.” Questions: 1. Which of the functional...

...Cosi “The Australian drama Cosi, and its themes, is a reflection of the characters’ immediate world, as well as the world at large. Explain this statement with reference to the text.” The Play Cosi, written by playwright Louis Nowra, is about members from a mental institution, who with the help of the protagonist Lewis are presenting an opera called ‘Cosi Fan Tutte.’ The opera tells the story of two officers, who pretend to leave for war to test the fidelity of their lovers. The themes of madness, attitude towards the mentally ill, transformations and growth and fidelity and love are portrayed through the conventions and techniques of symbolism, play within a play, setting and characters. Readers are positioned to respond to the immediate world and the world at large with complete madness, as it seems the world at large is a world apart from society. The play explores the theme of madness through the convention of setting. The idea of an inside world and outside world is shown through the symbolism and paranoia of society. The dark, derelict burnt out theatre is a metaphor for the world at large, and the drama that is enacted on its charred surface is a reflection of the larger dramas taking place outside. The outside world is noticed to have fear about the spread of communism, the mass casualties and the war crimes, for example the massacre of civilians, the torture of people and the rape. Readers respond to the absolute madness at times with confusion, as it’s hard...

...23 September 2015 Risks Worth Taking? A Reflection on the Effects of Memoirs The primary purpose of my research paper is to present a cross-section of the current conversations taking place around the way memoirs affect the writers who publish them. Based on my research, it appears that the effects tend to involve emotional and psychological consequences, as well as legal troubles in some instances. The discovery of this conversation helped me to refine my research topic into the question, “Do the benefits of publishing a memoir outweigh the risks of their effects for writers?” This research explores the positive and negative effects of memoirs on their writers to determine whether or not the risks are worth the rewards. Although writing a memoir can result in lawsuits and family discord, it more often proves to be therapeutic and can be the starting point of a nonfiction writer's career. What if I told you that memoirs are incredibly important to our society, because they document the human experience in such an honest way? Although they are valuable, they can also be risky. One key issue is that a memoir’s admissions risk causing major drama for writers, including legal trouble. In addition, they can be a catalyst for burning bridges with former employees. They can also potentially destroy long-term personal relationships. In this paper, I work to discover if it is worth all the drama to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. As I began my research...

...To develop a winning girls’ softball team, occasionally two opposite styles of coaching come together and complement each other. “14U” fast-pitch softball players need a balance in training. Coach John (an intense and ordered trainer) and Coach Troy (fun-loving and pliable) provide this symmetry for their Tanglewood Extreme softball team. Although these coaches have very different styles of training, they come together to give their players exactly what they need. John’s coaching style is aggressive and extreme, yet precise. He coaches offense, which involves batting and running the bases. Coach John does not give praise easily. He will scold the girls for making errors and have them run or complete repetitions of different exercises if he...

...was actually pretty fun. The bus was full of laughter and I think everyone was excited for this program. We had arrived at our destination on 7:30AM. We first went to our designated tents to prepare our things and to rest for a bit. We then had our orientation about our assigned activities. On the first day we had team building and the dreaded obstacle course. We had team building first. We played ___________ where we had to make the ball roll continuously on a pipe and into a bucket. Of course, we had our game on and our competitive side had already shown but we still had fun while doing it. Next was the Minefield where all the team member must hold the big tarpaulin full of holes and we must keep 3 balls in it while it keep on moving in the tarpaulin without falling for a certain period of time or we must repeat again. It was actually really hard. We were so tensed and we kept on screaming every time a ball falls out. Our last game is called Helium Stick where we had a helium stick put over our index finger and we had to lower the stick without it leaving all our fingers. Sounds easy, Right? NO. It was actually really hard because the stick kept on floating on mid-air, pretty amazing yet annoying at the same time, but we made did it. Took us a while but we did it. The TEAM BUILDING activities proved that we can all work together as a team. We just need to know how to cooperate, focus and be patient. And if we put our difference aside then we can be a team. We went straight...

...Sack Race Though the exact date of when “sack racing” originated is unknown, one thing is for certain; it’s been a hilarious, and fun way to pass the time for centuries. It is believed that this game originated somewhere around the late 18th century. Countrymen would take their old, used, potato sacks, and hop around in them for fun. This “sack hopping,” eventually progressed into its modern format of “sack racing.” By the late 19th century sack racing was actually considered a serious sport, and even had a brief stint at the Olympics in 1904! Believe it or not, some colleges had university run teams that would intensively train for “sack racing.” Although sack racing no longer holds the prestige that it once did in the 1900′s, it is still seen around the world at a social gathering, birthday parties, and just a fun way to pass the time. Rules: Team Sack Race: To play you need one burlap sack for each team. The more teams racing, the more fun it is. ...media spends billions of dollars on advertisements and teams spend millions of dollars on professional athletes all for one reason, the fans. The fans ticket sales and merchandise purchases are what keeps all the sport teams around and prevents professional athletes from losing their jobs. There are three types of fans in the sports world, average fans, fanatics, and fair-weather fans. Fans that are fanatics are the ones who are diehard and will put their favorite team before almost all other priorities. Their lives revolve around their favorite team and they will do anything for their team. Fans who are like this go to every sporting event possible that their favorite team is in and many are season ticket holders. Fanatics are usually not much fun to sit by at games because they get easily irritated or believe they know more about the game than everyone else. If they are not at the game, you can usually find them watching the game somewhere else on TV. People who are fanatics also spend much of their free time researching their team and will know almost every aspect of every player on their team as well as their opponents so they know how they match up with the other teams. No matter how bad the season is going for their favorite team, fanatics will always stick with them and will continue to go to the games on a regular basis and will never change who their favorite team is. If someone badmouths or insults their team though fanatics will get defensive and outraged about the...

... A team game, originally played by North American Indians, in which the ball is thrown, caught, and carried with a long handled stick having a curved L-shaped or triangular frame at one end with a piece of shallow netting in the angle. The rules of lacrosse are different. There are different types of lacrosse. In this case we will be talking about the (MLL) Major Lacrosse League. The rules State that the MLL uses a 60-second shot clock, which is reset after a goal is scored, a shot hits the post or is saved by the goalie, or there is a change of possession. If the clock runs out, possession is granted to the other team. Because of the shot clock, there is no restraining box to "keep it in". There are two television timeouts per quarter in MLL games. They are at the first dead ball stoppages under 9 minutes and under 4 minutes. Dead ball stoppages include goals, penalties, and changes of possession. There is a maximum of 19 players dressed in uniform per team in MLL games. All quarters and overtime periods must begin with a face off, regardless of a man up or man down situation. The strategy for Lacrosse is quite simple to be a good Lacrosse player. The key to being a good Lacrosse player is to use your speed. Also to keep the ball as close to you as possible so the opponents stick won’t hit it and go loose. Another good tactic is to use a lot of passing and that will make you and your team a good team. The equipment you need for lacrosse...

...complete respect, fairness, open communication with every one of them and building a long trusting relationship with each other. If I show them these characters from within myself it is my hope that they will model it for themselves, for me, their teammates, the officials, the fans, their parents and by all opposing teams, too. My main objective when I coach any team is I want to help them develop psychologically. I remind them often to have fun, celebrate their wins, loses or moments of opportunities that are presented to them. I have the knowledge I want to pass it on to those who do not, I also believe that playing sports, as a child not only builds character and confidence but also gives them a sense of accomplishment. It goes to the part in the book about self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-disclosure that if I expect myself to be like this, I want all my players to see their total self as well. The core part of my philosophy is an athlete first and winning comes second. This makes my coaching style to be cooperative style. This has always been my coaching philosophy, I have used on the field, as a team I will let them set their own guidelines for themselves among the team. I will let them hold each other accountable to their guidelines since they are the ones that created them with their list of values, guidelines and behaviors. This is part of being honest, having integrity with everyone in their lives most importantly with themselves and it creates responsibility that they will...

...the stands and showing their support for them. They should all get the chance to feel the encouragement and love from their coach and teammates as they score their first touchdown. Every child should have the chance to participate in a team sport. Not only are sports great entertainment and exercise for children, but it also is a fun way for them to learn basic and important life skills. Youth sports help guide children to develop good character and morals. Through their participation with a team sport, children are being taught how to work well with others, develop self-motivation and perseverance, increase their level of strategically thinking, and embrace courage. To begin, while participating in a team sport children are developing an important characteristic, learning how to work well with others. For many children, this is a hard lesson to learn. “Kids practice camaraderie, sportsmanship and loyalty to their fellow players and coaches. They must learn to work together to win a game, rely on each other to make a successful play, and dedicate themselves to improving their skills for the betterment of the team” (Frey, 2013). Have you ever sat in the stands at a youth football, basketball, baseball, or soccer game and just studied a teams every move and the interaction with their teammates. ...Teams in the 21st Cent SOC/110 November 4, 2013 Teams in the 21st Century From the time that you are a young child you begin to experience working in teams. Teams have become an important part of the 21st Century whether it be in education, athletics, or even at the workplace. In this paper I’ll discuss my experience working in teams, the advantages of being part of a team, and how having stronger team skills could really benefit you. I worked on my first team at the age of eight when I was on my first softball team. I never really knew what being part of a team meant until I played with those girls and that is an experience I have never forgotten even today. As I got older and in high school being part of a team became more common with the DECA club, Student Council, and the Dance Team. Each of these teams are all different in their own way but they each individually taught me skills that I still use to this day. Now that I am older I have realized that not everyone has the same idea or definition of what a team exactly is. As a student at the University of Phoenix working in teams is a big part of my school assignments each week. I have had some really positive experiences but there have been other times when my experiences were not so good. The one consistent problem I seem to have is getting everyone to do their part of the assignment on time or even at all which can be very frustrating at times. When I was younger it was fun to be part of a...
