Doris Kearns Goodwin is an American historian, political commentator, and biographer. Among Team of Rivals, she has also written about several other US Presidents. Some of these presidents include John F Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson to name a few. This New Yorker who now lives in Concord, attended Colby College in Maine, to later earn a PhD from Harvard University. A woman of many firsts, she earned the Lincoln Prize for her book Team of Rivals, she has even met Maine’s own Stephen King, and was the first female journalist to enter the Boston Red Sox locker room to approach Ken Burns for a baseball documentary (Since she was personally an enthusiastic baseball fan). Goodwin later had three boys with her husband Richard. Kearns takes time away from her writing to spend days with Richard, Michael, and Joseph; her children at several …show more content…
One case of this was when Abe and Mary's Child Willie dies during his childhood. Goodwin describes it as it is, which leaves the reader heartbroken. At the news of his son's death, Abe was reportedly a human ball of tears. It was said that he did not look himself, and no longer appeared tall and confident. As Goodwin describes Mary's condition, which consequently she became depressed and full of sorrow, she was known to lie in bed and wallow in her pity for her child. Goodwin describes the differences between Abe and Mary’s difference in mourning for their lost son throughout all of chapter 15 titled "My Boy is Gone "which was what Abe managed to say to Nicolay after getting the news. In Abe’s lifetime he grew empathetic for people he could relate to, and during the middle of the Civil War, he could relate to “The sorrows of families who had lost their loved ones in the war. “ With that statement on page 423 Doris Kearns Goodwin you can notice Mr. Lincoln's vulnerability, and more specifically due to the vivid descriptions and strong revelations, you feel Abe’s pain and loss
