...Chapter II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE This chapter presents some related literature read by the respondents. These literatures provided them a lot of help in understanding the study being conducted in terms of operation and management. Foreign Literature Today, people in our society seem to be caught in the rat race of life. They have very busy time schedules and find it hard to perform the mundane services of their lives which take significant proportion of the available time. For instance in 1997 it was established that 25 hours a week were devoted to childcare, housework or shopping by mothers in dual earner couples by Robinson, J.P. and Godbey, G. in their book Time for Life.: The Surprising Way American Use Their Time. For fathers the figure was 14.5 hours. This in turn forced people to use their working time for personal agendas. In fact Circles, 2001 revealed that 75%of employees take care of personal responsibilities while on the job. Further it was also established that employees spend an average of 1.86 hours per eight-hour workday on something other than their jobs, not including lunch and scheduled breaks. On the other hand with baby boomers getting to the late stages of their lives the whole world is experiencing the issue of ageing population. This elderly community becomes another customer segment of the Errands Service businesses as they need the assistance of somebody else but hate becoming a burden to their friends and relatives. As a result, today...

...ANNUAL REPORT 2008-09 Good economic circumstances usually make for great team-building. Its an excellent time to assemble the best talent that wants to be part of a profitable whole. With some diligence, its not difficult to get a model act together in terms of a mix of optimal goals and objectives for individuals, the team and the organization; set up systems for open and frequent communication, peer accountability; and create a culture that appreciates and bonds the team for best results. However, even in prosperous times things are never THAT perfect… and exceptional organizations more often than not, tend to get built by less than exceptional teams. And then there are times when the economy is less than booming. The times when businesses have to take tough calls. Are these a good time for building the finest teams? The last year demonstrates resoundingly that these are indeed great times to build excellent teams and very nimble teamwork. Periods when resources aren’t available for the asking, force organizations and teams to roll up their sleeves and develop REAL PEOPLE POWER. These are times when wise organizations leave behind any misguided reluctance to focus on teams and grapple squarely with the realization that without the right teams and work methods, the organization will not effectively identify and implement new ways to survive and thrive. Resource-scarce situations force huge efficiencies. They ensure that much more is achieved with less. Flatter organization...

...NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT On Apple’s New Product Development Strategy Posted on January 1st, 2010 by daniel Michael Malone from ABC News wrote an interesting article on Apple’s iPhone and its overall new product development strategy, with interesting strategic lessons for new product development and business in general. Google Nexus Offers Little Competition to Apple iPhone Why Google’s New Smartphone Won’t Knock Apple Off Its iPhone Throne COLUMN By MICHAEL S. MALONE, ABC News Jan. 1, 2010 Whether the marketplace is ready or not, the Big Guns in consumer electronics are about to make their move at the dawn of the New Year. Next Tuesday, Google is expected to announce its long-rumored Nexus One smartphone. It is undoubtedly designed to run the Google Android operating system for cellphones, which the search giant introduced more than a year ago. Android was envisioned as a major breakthrough in cellphones because it offered an "open" operating system i.e., one that other companies could use and design applications for. At the time, this strategy was compared to that of Microsoft Windows, which broke the market hegemony of Apple’s decidedly non-open OS in the mid-1980s and within a decade, turned Apple into a niche company. This time around, the new Android phones were supposed to break the hegemony of the Apple iPhone. So far, it hasn’t quite worked out that way with Android. A number of cell phone companies notably Motorola, HTC, and Samsung have adopted Android...
