Technology and Communications
There are many different media platforms that can be used in a business environment. Each scenario below required a different form of technology or media to communicate the given message.
In the first scenario, an employee’s computer is infected with a virus and you need to contact technical support to fix the problem. I believe that a phone call to the technical support team informing them of the issue is the best choice. When a virus is detected it is best that it be dealt with quickly before it can spread to others on the network. After they have been notified depending on the company they can send someone to fix it, take the computer, or remotely access it to remove the virus.
One of my team mates had some good points about bad news being best delivered in person. While I agree with that I do not think it applies here. This is not someone losing a job or not getting the raises they were promised. In this situation it is simply a problem that needs to be solved quickly. Some companies do not have a technical support team in the office and must call them in. If that was the case a face to face would not be possible. Even though I agree with his point about bad news I do not feel it meets the criteria here.
In the second scenario, the Human resources department needs to inform all the employees of the changes in the health plan. We also had differing opinions within our group about this one. However, in this scenario I think both are a great idea. I proposed an email that used bullet points to cover the changes, while including link to the full policy, insurance company’s website, and also HR’s number in case of questions. Jason had a great idea of using a memo to communicate the same message. This might be a better idea

...Communication Technology Steve Lopez BUS 600: Management Communications with Technology Tools Prof. James Worsley August 6, 2012 Communication Technology Communication and technology have evolved over the years and at a rapid pace. With these tools together, they have shaped industries and grew businesses exponentially. Many years ago, man had to use smoke from fire to communicate over long distances. With the new inventions and new technologies for communication, the business world shrunk the globe. Baack (2012) defines communication as, “transmitting, receiving, and processing information.” The organization that does these three things the quickest gives them an advantage on their competition. An organization needs to enhance its performance by first understanding the correct communication technology for them. The organization needs to be able to deliver communications that are timely, accurate, effective, and efficient. “These various modes of communication may be used to disseminate official information between employees and management, to exchange hearsay and rumors, or anything in between” (Reference for Business). Organizations need to understand what communication tools will best fit their organization. Defining the objectives of the organizations communication needs along with the costs is beneficial to the right communication tools needed for that specific organization. Table 1.1 shows the...

...Technology and Communication Paper University of Phoenix CJA/304 Mrs. Palmer August 10, 2011 Technology and Communication Paper Technology has helped enhance communication between others and has especially helped with communication in the criminal justice system. Technology has affected the communication capabilities of specialized databases in the criminal justice system in many different ways. Many forms of technology are used to help with communication such as mobile data terminals and iris scans in the criminal justice system. In this paper, this student will compare different types of specialized databases and will also discuss over positive and negative effects due to new technologies. Mobile data terminals are used in the criminal justice system as a form of specialized database to help with communication. “A mobile data terminal (MDT) is a computerized device used in public transit vehicles and emergency vehicles to communicate with a central dispatch office” (Versaterm, 2011). There are many large police agencies that require all law enforcement officers to have a wireless mobile terminal system installed in their vehicles. This database can help law enforcement officers with workload management in the communication center and they can also help better time management of officers and help greater efficiency. Mobile data terminals can also help with communication between officers and dispatch by letting the officers have access to dispatch receipts...

...Technology and Communications Technology and Communications While not everything runs on electricity, most of the technology used in the business world will become completely wireless; humans are only getting smarter and the technological sciences are only advancing and getting stronger. Though we may not want to face it, this century runs on wireless communication. Cell phones, tablets, Wi-Fi networks, hotspots, and many other wireless devices are a crucial part of any business and the way in which it communicates. “Wireless technology provides the ability to communicate between two or more entities over distances without the use of wires or cables of any sort.” (Krishnamurthy, 2002) Ask anyone on the street to pull out a cell phone and sure enough 9 times out of 10 they will pull it right out. Wireless technology today is constantly moving and expanding, we have become a wireless generation. There was a time when answering machines and landlines were the only way to communicate with one another, but now cables are a thing of the past. There was also a time when international calls were made over prepaid cards, now international calls can not only be made with a cell phone, but you can chat face to face with someone on the other side of the world. Wireless communication is the technology that makes these innovations possible. For businesses in the world today this means being able to communicate and expand their...

Communication Technology

...INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY Communication is often considered as essential in business, regardless of whether it is used to collect data from a team of researchers on market trends or to reach audiences across national boundaries for marketing purposes. Effective communication is an important key to success for organisations and the lack of it can lead to mistakes, strategic blunders, or even catastrophic failures. Whatever profession one may be in or may wish to pursue, the ability to communicate is a skill that employers would expect employees to have (Courtland & John, 2010). The history of communication starts from cave man’s invention their own way of communicating, evident in the historical relics of cave drawings. The Native Americans used smoke signals for long distance communication while the Native Africans were known to use drums as a means of long distance communication. There are several tongues and languages in the world today and these are all means to the purpose of communication. However, the field of communication has changed drastically since the advent of technology and the modern economy has been adopting these technologies to reap greater benefits and profits. The interplay of forces between communication technology is evident in our day-to-day lives. Such as moving from the heydays of barter trade to being able to purchase goods through telegraphic transfer that can happen almost instantly, with less concern for the physical...

...Technology and Communications xxxxxxxxxx COM/295 January 19, 2015 University of Phoenix Technology and Communications Effective communication contributes greatly to the success of a business and its staff. In order to effectively share information and the time in which, the information is received businesses have started to turn to technology. Technology can be used in every aspect of a business to accomplish a specific task; this paper will focus on what types of technologies are being utilized by businesses for communication purposes. The days of waiting for an important report to be delivered by courier are long gone, thanks to such technologies as email, fax, and SharePoint. I won’t waste your time giving details about the technologies most people are familiar with such as emails and faxes but, SharePoint on the other hand is less familiar although in my opinion it is just as important as emails and faxes. SharePoint is a cloud based system that enables businesses to share information, data, and documents to their staff, clients, and consumers. There are many layers to SharePoint; businesses can create a team site for its employees for special projects. The employees would have access to calendars, documents, and all important information for the project all in one place. SharePoint enables businesses to work more effectually. Skype is another technology used by businesses today for the purpose of video conferencing. Skype is a free service with the use of a computer...

...Technology and Communication Arneshia Hopkins March 2, 2015 COM/295 University of Phoenix The different types of technology being used for business communication are networking, the Internet, and of course wireless communications. I work for a company call center by the name of Sutherland Global Services. If you could place Internet in the company name it would be there. Networking allows companies to be able to share information and videos using a secure system. The Internet is used for video chatting, and sending emails and IM's amongst employees, and employees and their supervisors or managers, and wireless communication is used for voice communication and texting. It can also be used for checking emails on the go. The company I work for communicates through the Microsoft Outlook email. Any announcements and tips come through emails. That is the chain of command to hirer heads of the company. In my business we use the Internet to send emails to the providers and physicians we are trying to schedule an appointment with for the veterans .We use wireless communications to communicate with employees that are in different cities and offices, when we need to call the office for any reason, and to call the doctor offices to get more information. The company I work for pretty much uses the same communications such as Internet and wireless communications. Sometimes I think the company should rely so much on the Internet and our outlook system to communicate certain reports...

...Technology affects our everyday life. Technology also affects the criminal justice field, especially in communication. The criminal justice system has different databases thanks to technology. These databases do things that humans wouldn’t be able to do or wouldn’t have the time to do. Two specific types of databases are AFIS and Iris scan. AFIS (also known as IAFIS) stands for Automated Fingerprint Identification System. AFIS is just that, a database created to keep track of fingerprints. Iris scan is the scanning of the iris as a method to identify people based on unique patterns within the ring-shaped region surrounding the pupil of the eye. Even though we use technology every day it can also have its drawbacks. Technological advancements will always come with positives and negatives. A positive is that technology makes life easier for everyone who works in the criminal justice field. A negative would be if a form of technology breaks down or there isn’t any electricity to keep it up and running. AFIS is one of the most important and commonly used databases available to officers. This special database searches the fingerprints of over 74 million subjects in the National Criminal History Record File. AFIS is a system that compares fingerprints. It isn't precise enough to make a final determination on a case but what it does do is cut out all of the people whose fingerprints don't compare very closely to the initial fingerprint at hand. This is a huge asset to the criminal...

...Communication and Information Technology Nancy Joseph 320 November 07, 2011 Patrick Washington Communication and Information Technology According to our text book; Communicating in Health, chapter 11, pg. 320, despite the criticisms, health news does offer several advantages. Media organizations are credited with increasing people’s awareness about health. And even when medical news is not what scientists would wish, its presence keeps health on the public agenda and garners support for medical science. In 1996, I began traveling on my road to learning about being a dietary manager in a nursing home. At first I was exhausting every aspect of reading the old paper chart just to find the information that was necessary for me to do my job. This chart included every point of information about the patients that lived within the confinement of the facility. The cover page held every detail in the life of the patient from the social security number to a doctor’s diagnosis to what industry that person had worked in for the largest part of his or her life. Now this information is just a click away. The nursing staff has possibly been one of the most affected by these programs, they are now able to see in print what and how the doctor had ordered any treatments or medications. The med technicians are able to point a mouse and order any medications that are needed for the patients at current time and not have to wait on the phone and make sure that the pharmacy is able to fill...

...Technology and Communication Amy Pandiscio CJA/304 March 18th, 2014 Mr. Geoghegan Technology and Communication Technology has become far more advanced over the years in the criminal justice system. With all the advanced technology available, it affects the communication capabilities used within the system, both with positive and negative affects. This paper allows a person to learn a little more about the technology available and its affects. One advanced technology used in the criminal justice system is the biometric iris scanning technique. The iris scanning technology used to allow for the capture of each individual’s unique iris pattern by the use of a photograph. These photographs are then stored in a database and used as an identifier, just like fingerprints would be("Biometrics: Facial Recognition And Iris Scanning", n.d.). Iris scanning however is a little different from fingerprinting. Unlike fingerprints, the iris can be scanned from a distance of six feet away whether by surveillance or still cameras, or on an unsuspecting person is being photographed and spied upon. Dr. Marios Savvides, Director of the CyLab Biometrics Lab, along with a group of researchers are working on breaking ground in the enhancement of iris scanning as well as coming up with the creation of new technology. Savvides is focusing on the image quality and device efficiency, which are two problematic areas used in biometric authentication(“Iris and Facial Recognition”...

...Technology and Communications Stephanie Mannino Com/295 February 8, 2016 Kenneth Edick Technology and Communications Effective ways to communicate using technology A message to the technical support about an employee’s computer that has been infected by a virus: The most effective way to communicate with technical support would be first to simply call. I would call simply because an employee needing to be able to use their computer would be a very time sensitive matter. Whether or not you speak with someone in the department, I would also send an email with the name of the employee and the department that they work in. I would follow up later that day to ensure that the problem was handled effectively. A message from HR to all employees, explaining the changes to the company health plan in the coming year: I would send this information out via email. The email would include a brief description and who to contact if they have questions or concerns. I would attach a pdf file for each employee to review at their discretion. To cover all bases, I would also send to all department heads where employees do not have access to email, and the information could be printed for those employee’s. ...The communication channels available to organizations offer opportunities to maximize the impact of distributed messages. Business that utilize information technology as a means to maximize the delivery capability of their communications gain the most from technology but also may experience obstacles. By incorporating visual and audio elements to presentations, formal setting and video conferencing environments, there’s an opportunity to personalize the message. These interactive channels offer verbal and nonverbal cues that create an enriching environment for exchanging information and opinions. In addition to impacting the means that we communicate, technology also facilitates market expansion and global accessibility of resources and staff vital to a business development. As such, technology provides a means for developing and maintaining relationships regardless of geographical barriers (Milicevic et al., 2013). Potential obstacles or a negative impact of technology is the usage of email, text messages and instant message because they lack visual features and the depth of nonverbal elements. While presentations or graphs can be transmitted within these channels it limits them to more of a question and answer exchange. Consider email, text messaging and instant messages; these methods are increasingly common in organizations except they eliminate nonverbal cues and other factors that play a role in interpreting messages. An example of how technology affects message interpretation...

...Technology and Communication Robyn Hargrave COM/295 July 20, 2015 Barbara Psachos Technology and Communication In today's world, we rely on different forms of communication in business. These forms range from oral communication (example: person to person), written communication (examples: memos and letters), and electronic (examples: emails and text messages). We must decide on the most effective form of communication when faced with different scenarios. What form of communication would I use to send technical support a message regarding an employee's computer that has been infected with a virus? It is important to know the company's policy for reporting problems to tech support. Some technology departments want a work order sent in. This way they can keep track of all the problems a company is having and determine if this problem is companywide or only for certain individuals. I would send an email to tech support regarding this employee's computer. I would also follow up with a phone call to tech support to make sure they received my email if I have not heard back from them within an hour. With an email, the support personnel can see what is going on while on the phone with another person and might be able to handle the situation while on hold. With just a phone call, the support personnel might be on the phone and cannot answer. What form of communication would I use for letting all employees know about upcoming health care...

...Abstract: Impact of technology is both positive and negative. Logically thinking, technology has since been better in the communication process and done negligible harm. Development of technology has considerably improved our lifestyle. It has made its impact felt on each and every aspect of life, including communication technology. Invention of Alexander Graham Bell in 1875, the first inventor that impacted communication in humans to a massive extent. Impact of technolgy on the communication process, also comes as a mixed baggage. Daily routine of a person, the day begins with a “good morning” text and ends in a “good night” text. All done on a mobile application for smartphones. On the same application social networking sites are a world themselves, a Virtual World, to make the process quick and easy there are modes, like online chats, emails, teleconferencing, video conferencing, networking sites, etc. The greatest need for all human needs is, the need for communication. It is a daily use for us as humans to survive in this life. There is no way we can not go without communicating. In my eyes; “it is another way of sending messages”. In recent years, technology of communication has rapidly developed since the century of when, “pigoens delivered notes”, “horses sent mail deliveries to others”, a lot of things. It became advancement in telecommunications. It became a big impact to society to our generations and...
