...Technology Ethics in the Classroom Classrooms today are relying more and more on technology. Students are using computers for research on projects frequently. Because of this, teachers should teach the ethical use of technology to their students. Teaching ethical uses of technology will help students understand copyright laws and plagiarism. Because the internet is being used more often in the classroom, teachers should start teaching their students the ethical way to use it. Teachers should discuss plagiarism and how to avoid it, and teach the proper way to cite sources that are used for research. One way the University of Delaware does this is to hand out booklets that explain the proper and ethical use of a computer, then the students are given a quiz before they are allowed to use the computers for internet access (Mendels, 2000). Teachers can also teach students the ethical and proper use of computers by only allowing students to use specific websites for research and requiring students to cite all websites used (Faust, slide 7). Teachers can use Johnson’s 3 P’s of technology ethics. The 3 P’s, which are privacy, property, and appropriate use, provide a framework for discussions in the classroom (Johnson, 2002). It is important to take proper measures to ensure internet safety and security in the classroom. Firewalls are a great way for school’s to add security when using the internet. They prevent certain information, files, and programs from going in or out of...

...EDU-225 Instructional Technology Technology Ethics in the Classroom Technology is one of the most used tools in society today. Some of the growing concerns while using technology can be what ethical and what is not ethical. Everyone has the right to use the internet how they want to in the privacy of their own computers. The information on the internet is unlimited and has no regulation on what sites are available to anyone who uses it. Technology has grown at an unbelievable rate and has possibilities that are endless. The question is how we as teachers and parents show our children and students how to be ethical while using the internet. The ambivalence of technology has become a standing topic in the public, philosophical and scientific debate (Mitcham, 1994). Ethics is the concept of what is right and wrong. Some people will tell you it is measured by a person’s morals. Ethics is usually similar with what others believe what is right and wrong, but we cannot rely on that belief. It can be difficult to measure a person’s moral compass and trust their judgment if you do not know them personally. That is something that is brought up when using technology in the classroom. Ethics of technology is addressing ethical questions specific to the Technology Age. Technology is not capable of possessing moral or ethical qualities since it is a tool. It is up to the user to decide what is ethical and what is not ethical. When using technology in the classroom students must use good...

...EDU 225 Comprehensive Classroom Technology Plan My mission is to incorporate technology strategies in the classroom as much as possible, while following the guidelines set out by the state curriculum. My vision is to create a classroom/environment where all students are excited and anxious to learn and that students be able to show what they have learned at the end of each lesson. As technology continues to grow, there will be more and more of a need and demand for technology use in the classroom. When using computer technology in the classroom, one must find the course of action to correctly guide lessons for the curriculum so that students can reach their optimum goals. Ultimately to mark how each student is doing in the classroom we must locate software for formative and summative assessments. After all, a teacher’s ultimate goal to be able to teach our students and also be able to document what those students have learned. In that light one, the teacher must look a number of things, how can technology assist in efforts to assess student learning? What are formative assessment and summative assessment and how do they compare and differ? What are the pluses and minuses of using technology in the classroom? Should only technology be used in assessing learning? These are the questions that teachers seek to answer and justify. First, let us explore assessments in the classroom. Why is assessment necessary? What are formative and summative assessments...

...Sharon Palumbo 10/22/10 EDU 225 Instructional Technology Ethical Uses of Technology in the Classroom The internet has become a useful tool for gathering information and teaching students, but with all technology there are safety precautions that we must set-up to teach our children how to be safe. It is the responsibility of the parents and the teachers to inform students about internet safety. “Keeping students safe while online cannot be left to filters and firewalls placed on the network …these filters do not catch everything” (Andrew, 2009) Since the internet is relatively new technology many students are “far ahead of their parents in terms of Internet usage” and many parents have limited experience on the use of computers much less the knowledge they need to educate their children on its safety (Lemos, 2006). It has become necessary to offer parents information “about internet security, such as what Facebook privacy settings their children should have” in order to keep children safe (Butler, 2010). Technology aids such as “filters, firewalls, activity reports and spyware are all ways that you can keep an eye on more than one child at the same time” (Feldman, 2007). A filtering program allows teachers to enter types of sites that are inappropriate and the software blocks these sites from loading so that students are unable to access them. Firewalls help to protect a child from the repercussions of giving out personal information on the internet by blocking outsiders...

...CURRENT PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY 1 Current Personal Classroom Management Plan Grand Canyon University EDU 536 November 6, 2013 CURRENT PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY Current Personal Classroom Management Plan As professional educators we have a responsibility to practice good classroom management. It is important to have a plan to be organized. We must organize our material, time, classroom, and students so we can ensure the student practices effective learning in the classroom (GCU EDU-536 Lecture, 2013). Canter (2006) said “Teachers who master effective classroom management skills can raise the achievement of their students by a dramatic 20 percentile points”. As a teacher, if we use great classroom management skills we can better guide our students. Classroom management is key to student success. The structure of classroom 2 management influences a students goal and achievement (Self-Brown and Mathews, 2003). It promotes a learning environment with minimal distractions and minimal student misbehavior. Managing our classroom appropriately we can teach our material effectively and promote student engagement, achievement, and effective learning. All of these ideas should be exercised from day 1 of class; especially classroom management and student engagement. They are the two most important ideas (GCU EDU 536 Lecture, 2013). Classroom management can be observed in how a teacher acts, how a student behaves, what the classroom looks and feels like, how a teacher assists a student...

...– 225 September 15, 2012 Pelletier, Raquel Every day, businesses, schools, and individuals depend on computers to perform a variety of significant tasks. Such as doing sales, recording student grades, creating reports, web sites , and sending e-mail, people rely on computers more ever day to create what they need. Even lesson plains at school and enrollment to keep up with the children addresses . I fell that internet security belongs in the classroom because we need to make sure that our children are safe and protected from internet predators and inappropriate materials that can harm our children . The county blocks any site address that might be offensive or age inappropriate, Individual teachers coach their students about not giving out any personal information and they also discuss some of the situations where this type of information could harm them. The school policy is already in place for the students. The way we could create copyright and student use in the classroom without causing trouble in either of these areas, the children’s parents and the students themselves, would have to agree to strictly follow the rules for usage. The county does this for use, they already put a plain in place for the kids to go by and parents, they even have one for the teachers to follow to. The children has a password in order to login and so does the teachers they even now will take the computer mouse right out of our hand, while we are on their...

...Micah Ballard Dispositions and Philosophy Paper Education 2010 Section 1 Charles Preston 4/25/11 Dispositions of a teacher are some of the most important topics we covered through the semester in Education 201. Teacher dispositions, if followed correctly, can be looked at as the prototypical teacher who can arrive at a school and not only help out the school, but also help of the children. The main dispositions of learning consist of the commitment to diversity, commitment to ethics, commitment to the teaching profession, and knowing the philosophies and theories of education. Throughout a semester of a number of speakers, class documents, and Martin Haberman’s Star Teachers, I feel like I have learned how important these dispositions truly are for the success of a teacher and what I need to work on to better myself to become a true star educator. The first disposition of teaching is the commitment to diversity. Commitment to diversity is a strong point of mine because I have first handedly seen the benefits of diversity in the schools. In one hand I went to a middle school that was about 30% African American, 25% Hispanic, and 45% White. On the other hand I went to a high school that was almost 95% White, 4% African American, and 1% Hispanic. I feel like the students I went to school with in the diverse community had a more open mind about society in a whole which clearly made for better learning. I also observed that the teachers at the diverse school seemed to have...

...ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN CYBER ETHICS INTRODUCTION According to Barquin (1992), cyber ethic guidelines consist of Ten Commandments which are: (1) Thou shall not use a computer to harm others, (2) Thou shall not interfere with others computer work (3) Thou shall not snoop around in others computers files, (4) Thou shall not use computer to steal, (5) Thou shall not to bare fall witness, (6) Thou shall not copy or use proprietary software you have not paid for, (7) Thou shall not use others computers resources without authorization or proper compensation, (8) Thou shall not appropriate other people’s intellectual property, (9) Thou shall think about the social consequences of the program you are writing or the system you are designing (10) Thou shall use a computer in ways that ensure consideration and respect for your fellow humans. However, not everyone concern about these rules as we seen nowadays. In order to prevent plague from spreading and become worse in future, we have to identified the root cause of the problem and define how to solve it. ...communication plan will strengthen a child’s academic journey and keep parents up to date on their child’s progress. (Shelly, Gunter, & Gunter, 2012) With effective communication between parents and teachers, there is no room for a student to fail. With teachers, allowing a pathway for parents to become more active in the classroom during lessons gives the parent the opportunity to know and understand the lessons that the student is learning. (Cooper, 2007) Keeping up with emergency contacts and creating a class website to keep parents up to date on lesson and activities in the classroom will provide students with the support that has needed. Parents and teachers should have the most communication throughout the school year. Creating achievable goals for the students at the beginning of the year, will give parents the opportunity to strengthen their child’s weaknesses by informing the teacher on what improvements they would like to see. (Cooper, 2007) It also allows the teacher to know whom he/she needs to work more with and how to make the improvements. Allowing parents to access the class website helps keep them informed on what is going on in the classroom and whether or not their child is improving or not. This way parents can help a failing child improve by enforcing the lessons taught at school at home. (Shelly, Gunter, & Gunter, 2012)This will remedy the issue of a working parent who cannot make it to the school because of the hours they work. Parents will be able...

...Running Head: ETHICS IN DISTANCE EDUCATION Ethics in Distance Education Anna Amen Strayer University Ethics in Distance Education In today’s world, technology has had a major impact in allowing students to attend college courses over the internet. Distance Education, or Distance learning, is a form of education where the professor and student are separated by distance. This has become a very popular way of learning for students to either start or continue their education. With the use of computers, students are able to communicate over the internet with their professor over discussion boards, video conferencing, and chat rooms. Students have gained a huge interest in distance education since they are able to use these forms of communication through a computer instead of attending a traditional classroom. Distance education is mainly preferred by students because it is flexible, convenient and the variety and availability of classes offered. Students are able to attend classes online on their own time allowing them to work around school and family obligations. It also allows them to attend classes anywhere they are located as to having to be on campus to take classes. The classes that are not available on campus are available online along with many other classes a student can participate in. By having these types of advantages, it is no wonder how distance education is becoming increasingly popular among students and people who want to go back to school...
