...Technology in Education Integration of technology into the educational system gives assurance of quality results and client satisfaction in the education sector. Technology provides the leeway to improved learning and teaching in schools. It is a tool that helps learners and educators to accomplish their goals at a reduced cost. Technology serves as an enabler in teaching and learning to simulate, visualize, and interact with scientific structures, models, and processes. It also facilitates and assists in the authentication and prioritization of internet materials, consequently providing a forum where teachers, parents and students can interact anytime and anywhere (Abuhmaih, 2011). Technology lies at the core of modern education system. Its roles in the sector are in tandem with the changes in the society. It provides a new definition of education, enabling stakeholders and participants to acquire quality and cost effective education system. In addition, technology creates a new platform for learning where students can easily access and manipulate learning resources. Nonetheless, technology in education may be destructive to the learners if not properly utilized. It can distract learners’ attention and focus. Learners should practice self-discipline and self-motivation, especially where one uses technology for distance learning. It can also be costly in terms of acquisition and installation costs. Technology does not confine learning to computers and computing environment...

...Technology in Education By: Elsie Blaylock EDU 623 Instructor: Benjamin Kirgan April 2, 2012 Technology in Education In the last few years technology has made enormous impacts on education. The resources available to students have become so vast that it now enables children to experience places and periods in time that they would never get to view in their life time. With this type of technology children have been able to improve their research and writing skills. In the article “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students” it talks about the change in the role of students and teachers. “Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons.” (Means & Singh, 2012)Sometimes this is a great thing and sometimes not so great, because some teachers allow the computers to do all the teaching and not interact with the children. Next the article goes on to talk about different areas that children are effective by technology. Such as, an increase in self-esteem, the technical skills that students develop at an early age, harder tasks that are accomplished, the ability of peers cooperating with each other, the increase of resources available to students, and the approval of peers after students have completed and presented their projects. Overall this is a good resource for understanding...

...but to the ever changing age of technology. The 21st century can also be dubbed an age of learning as people seek to become skilled in their various fields of work and children go through the educational system. Only recently has technology and education been merged, to pave the way in a new era of learning. As a result, I am inclined to investigate the impacts of this reality. In educational institutions across Trinidad and Tobago, traditional methods of teaching have been phased out and whiteboards, projectors, smart screens and laptops are now widely used by teachers. As a result, the students who are on the receiving end of these innovations in teaching are impacted by the way they comprehend it. I myself being one of these students gave me as well as my peers insight into the topic. As I learned views on the topic vary from student to student. Hence, this brings us to the question, “What are the positive and negative impacts of technology in the educational system?” As the study pertains to both students and teachers information on both perspectives of the topic can be gathered by questionnaires. How has technology revolutionized teaching methods and techniques? Can it make learning fun, interactive and easier? Do students abuse the privileges of technology in the classroom? Barbados is an island present in the Caribbean that seeks to explore the use of ICT’s in the Caribbean by a program called Education Sector Enhancement Programme (ESEP)...

...Argument Synthesis Liliana Cross Post University Is technology helping students in the classroom rather than traditional printed textbooks? Studies have shown technology such as tablets are more helpful than textbooks schools get each year. Harcourt (n.d.) used a "digital version of the Algebra 1 textbook for Apple's iPad in California's Riverside Unified School District." (para. 10) Students had a 20% higher test score using the digital version than the printed textbooks. Each year school's spend about $7 billion on out of date printed textbooks. By them switching to tablets, schools could save about $3 billion. So why do schools not want to make the change? Textbooks are usually seven to ten years out of date when schools buy them. Therefore, the students are not getting the most current information they need to learn. With tablets, students and teachers would be able to stay up to date with all and any information they need. Tablets are much lighter than print textbooks. They can hold hundreds of textbooks, save the environment by lowering the amount of printing, increase student interactivity, and creativity, and that digital textbooks are cheaper than print textbook. “…in 2006, the U.S. book industry consumed approximately 30 million trees and had a carbon footprint equivalent to 12.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, or 8.85 pounds per book sold.” (Green Press Initiative and the Book Industry Study Group. 2008) Paper books can be recycled, though at this point...

...Technology in Education Because of the rapid change of today’s society technology if used correctly can help any organization advance to the next level. Education has grown over the last ten years with the implementation of technology. Children are able to adapt to the use of technology in the class because they use technology daily at home. When one use the term technology people used to automatically think of computers. As more inventions and devices are made and incorporated into schools or organizations we are presented with many changes and challenges in today’s society. We have smart phones that are like miniature computers and they can be used as modems and other devices besides as a phone. Brown, S. (2010). Laptop learning: Burlington High principal plans for a future in which students can make the most of technology. Boston Globe, p. GN.1. Retrieved November 14, 2010, from ProQuest National Newspapers Expanded. (Document D: 2123617641). In reading this article Laptop learning I understand and agree with the principal Patrick Lark. Because of the changing times that we are living in today technology in education allows children to get away from the norm of paper and pencils. It is a great idea for each student to be able to have there own laptop to use at school, but we must realize that all students will not be able to afford laptops. In most schools cell phones and ipods are forbidden on school grounds. In looking at what these new computerized cell phones...

...Technology in Education In today’s society many technologies have become useful in education. To make students successful in education today, we must use all tools that are given to us. We must realize that our students today are being brought up in an age of technology that has never been seen before. Today most homes have computers in them and most children are more literate to technology. The need for students today is to learn and make use of the skills that they have in technology and use them in the classroom. The digital world is so much part of the world today, how can educators ignore it. In the requirements for students from 6-8 it is making sure they are prepared for high school and the college levels of technology. By the end of a sixth grade students must be able to use appropriate vocabulary to demonstrating and using moral knowledge while on the internet for information in the classroom. It is very important that every requirement is implemented and used, if not we are only cheating the student of his/her education. The “No Child Left Behind Act” has made states responsible to make sure every child is technologically literate by the time they reach the ninth grade. The United States Dept. of Education says race, ethnicity, gender, income, geographic location, or disability is not an issue and every child will get the same instruction as the child next to them. This is very important and should be the main focus of schools in the United States. We must make sure...

...Education Education is essential for everyone. It is the level of education that helps people earn respect and recognition. In my opinion, it is indispensable part of life both personally and socially. However, the unequal standard of education is still a major problem that needs to be solved. Education is important, and it plays a major key role in every aspects of human life. It provides knowledge for people, and openings to great opportunities that are set in their future. Without education, many will struggle throughout their lives trying to adapt to the world today. In 21st century, most people living in the western hemisphere have access to learn, but take it for granted. Some attend school, but never graduate, and they struggle to live a decent life. Nevertheless, those that graduate from college have a better chance to survive and adapt the harsh world. In contrast, people who graduate from college have a better job and live in a greater society than those that did not graduate. The importance of education is undeniable for every single person. It goes without saying that education has a positve effect on human life. All people need to study. Only with the advent of education can people gain knowledge and enlarge their view over the world. For example, learning by watching TV or reading books gives people a huge amount of information about anything they are interested in such as mathematics, current news, exchange rates, other countries' cultures and so on. Apparently...

...Joseph Smith Professor Perunovich English 121 March 9, 2014 Technology and Education Both articles, “Electronic America” by Laurie DiMauro and “What Is the Role of Technology in Education?” by Bill Tucker, point out the positive and negative sides of the role of technology in education. Author DiMauro gives insight on “how technology like computers, cell phone, and the internet have introduced a great deal of distraction into the lives of many young people”, while author Tucker clearly gives publicity to the fact that “instructors are using technology to flip their lessons.” Knowing the good and bad sides of the role that technology plays in education is essential for everyone. In “Electronic America” article by Laurie DiMauro, the negative or bad side of technology is clearly pointed out by DiMauro. Topics ranging from illicit materials on the internet to cheating and plagiarism are covered by DiMauro in her article “Electronic America”. She explains that technology like the Internet, computers, and cells phones have introduced a great deal of distraction into the life of many young people. She goes on to say that technology also allows teenagers to access illicit materials, such as pornography, that they normally could not obtain so easily. She also added that technology opens up avenues for students to cheat and plagiarize. DiMauro also clearly mentioned that “students appeared to have no qualms about copying text from the Internet and pasting it verbatim into reports...

...Technology in Education In recent years educational institutions have implemented excessive uses of technology in the classroom. As a nation we are always striving to improve our systems and the way we do things; however, too much of something isn’t always a good thing. While technology can improve the way subjects are taught in the areas of convenience and quickness, it can also harm education in the facets of quality. At the rate that technology is spreading, teachers and professors will soon be replaced with computers and online learning tools. While there may be advantages to such an approach, the disadvantages far outweigh them. I am going to discuss the potential negatives of implementing such large amounts of technology in the educational classrooms of today. An obvious place to start would be on technology itself. Has technology actually positively affected people today, or has the overwhelming amount of information available at a fingertip caused us to rely on it so heavily that we have lost our desire to learn? One problem with technology is that intrigues our minds so well that we don’t want to do anything else. For instance, if a child is playing the newest video game and his mother asks him to stop for a second and take the trash out, he will instantly become furious (Martin). It is not reasonable that such an easy and simple task would create such a feeling of exasperation, so we can only point a finger at the new factor, which is technology. Patience seems to...

...Matthew Centrella Technology in Education In our lives today we expect technology to make a difference, and particularly in furthering our education. We see technologies effects as beneficial. We look for it to change, and improve, what has come before it. Technology is the set of means without which certain kinds of constructive activity would be almost impossible. It supports our efforts to appeal to different learning styles, which give us a way to interact with each other and extend the learning experiences. It is a good way to extend the essential skills and knowledge of students. By integrating technology into our educational programs it provides students with additional tools to enhance their learning. Technology allows us to demonstrate teaching strategies and also provide teachers with skills to succeed in the classroom. It changes the structure and the manor in which we learn. Such technologies used in education from the past, present and beyond are the typewriter, computer games, Internet, and communication. Technology and Education (the relationship) The relationship between technology and education can be characterized as a process of change and innovation. In the beginning societies depended on oral communication then the written language was developed. Making an alphabet made learning to read and write much easier then in the past. As technologies of written language became prevalent and more people became literate social structures formed. The next big...

...Another issue in education is the use of technology. I am not saying that technology is a bad thing, in fact it can be a great thing when it comes to education. Technology has brought many assets in education. Although technology has brought learning to life for many students, it also presents challenges. Technology use is changing how people communicate and learn, how they approach learning and how they process information. But I think there are three reasons to worry. Reason one, the technology will be unevenly distributed, meaning that the gap between rich, poor and young, old will actually widen. In today’s academic world, a very noticeable gap exists between the technology teacher’s use in their lesson plans and the level of technological experience most students have. And in most cases, the students come out on top. From social media to computers, students are more ahead of most of their teachers and this may cause many problems when teachers try to both engage their students in the material and stay ahead of their ability to learn. It's true that some teachers have an excellent understanding of technology, but a large percentage of teachers—even young teachers—are lagging behind, technologically speaking, when compared to their students. Even as technology becomes more affordable and internet access seems increasingly ubiquitous, a “digital divide” between rich and poor remains. The rich and educated are still more likely than others to have good access to digital...

...Research on Technology in Education, 2007, 40(1), xx–xxx In-Depth Analysis of the Felder-Silverman Learning Style Dimensions Vienna University of Technology, Austria Sabine Graf Silvia Rita Viola and Tommaso Leo Universita’ Politecnica delle Marche, Italy Athabasca University, Canada Kinshuk Abstract Learning styles are increasingly being incorporated into technology-enhanced learning. Appropriately, a great deal of recent research work is occurring in this area. As more information and details about learning styles becomes available, learning styles can be better accommodated and integrated into all aspects of educational technology. The aim of this paper is to analyse data about learning styles with respect to the Felder-Silverman learning style model (FSLSM) in order to provide a more detailed description of learning style dimensions. The analyses show the most representative characteristics of each learning style dimension as well as how representative these characteristics are. As a result, we provide additional information about the learning style dimensions of FSLSM. This information is especially important when learning styles are incorporated in technology-enhanced learning. (Keywords: learning styles, Felder-Silverman model, data mining, student modelling.) IntroDuctIon In recent years, educational researchers have focused more and more on various aspects of learning styles and how they can be considered in educational technology. Investigations...

There are several ways that social media can be applied in e-learning. The social media site Facebook can be used for students to share and post ideas and information, which can promote learning. Twitter can help students connect with each other while rallying around a topic or idea (Krutka & Milton, 2013). YouTube, my personal favorite, has so much free information that teachers can use it to support the lesson, and even podcasts are essential because they allow the students to connect to audio content over the web. So many wonderful lessons can be taught and developed using social media and though it may not be ideal or accepted by everyone, you cannot deny the positive effects social media can have on learning if implemented correctly (Faizi & El Afia, 2013). The Good vs. The Bad There are many good qualities that social media bring to the classroom learning experience. Oftentimes students...

...Assumptions, Limitations, Scope and Delimitation The study will help establish whether participating teachers are curious and eager to learn new skills that will provide additional teaching opportunities. It is assumed that teachers are curious and eager to learn how to infuse advanced technology and also develop an understanding of instructing with available technological tools such as wireless laptop technology (Marino, Sameshima, &ump; Beecher, 2009). The limitations are as follows: first, the amount of time available for the researcher to conduct this study, which may also limit the study’s scope to a smaller group of respondents. The other limitation is the researcher’s inability to assess the accurate amount of time teachers will spend using an online network. The next limitation is the location, a rural school system and not a suburban or urban school system because the system under review only has four schools. The final limitation is teachers’ use of available technology within their classroom due to possible technophobia, lack of training, and or skills. The delimitation in this study is that no data will be collected from XYZ’s students and administrators who also use wireless technology. The TAS questionnaire, which is a standardized measure with high reliability and validity of teachers’ technological attitudes, will be administered to 108 teachers. However, the use of a self-reported questionnaire will also assume that participants provide truthful responses from...
