Abstract:

Impact of technology is both positive and negative. Logically thinking, technology has since

been better in the communication process and done negligible harm. Development of technology has

considerably improved our lifestyle. It has made its impact felt on each and every aspect of life,

including communication technology. Invention of Alexander Graham Bell in 1875, the first inventor

that impacted communication in humans to a massive extent.

Impact of technolgy on the communication process, also comes as a mixed baggage. Daily

routine of a person, the day begins with a “good morning” text and ends in a “good night” text. All

done on a mobile application for smartphones. On the same application social networking sites are

a world themselves, a Virtual World, to make the process quick and easy there are modes, like online

chats, emails, teleconferencing, video conferencing, networking sites, etc.

The greatest need for all human needs is, the need for communication. It is a daily use for us

as humans to survive in this life. There is no way we can not go without communicating. In my eyes;

“it is another way of sending messages”. In recent years, technology of communication has rapidly

developed since the century of when, “pigoens delivered notes”, “horses sent mail deliveries to others”,

a lot of things. It became advancement in telecommunications. It became a big impact to society to

our generations and century.

Technology with out a doubt has created a world with out any boundaries. With all modern

gizmos (smart phones, tablets and computers) communication has become easier and faster, along

with cheaper. It is faster in the sense that the information sent is received at a much more quicker

time. As above mentioned, we do not have to wait days or weeks to receive something sent by

another party in terms of communication. Now when you send it is automatically into your mailbox

online.

The reason communication nowadays is cheaper is due to our needs as humans. Human

interactions are unlimited , as it could be done by anybody, anytime and any place through their means.

Some positive impacts of technology in communication: 1) no barriers- mobils and emails come in

handy 2)strength and relations- keep in touch with old contacts 3) better solutions- brought the

world closer and promoted exchange of thoughts to find a better solution to any problem 4) e-schools-

video conferencing gives best education to students via an expert faculty on the web 5) impact on

relations- technology rationale behind success of long distance relationships 6) development-

technological advancements in the modes of communication have promoted a faster decision making

and led to development and progress of the world. Video conferencing has played a considerate role

in promoting faster decision making.

Negative impacts of technology in communication: The world is missing the charm of a good

old face to face conversation. It has gone away and has been replaced by texting or chatting. 1)

impact on interpersonal communication- lacks essential interpersonal skills 2) effect on non verbal

communication- technological means, have also affected non verbal grasping power of individuals

3) near yet far- teenagers, especially are always hooked on the social networking scene. The gap

between their them and their parents has increased considerably, parents are not “technological savvy”

and they do not use the communication sites like the children do. It has increased during the generation

gap 4) reduced social interaction- society has become more bothered about their online life rather than

their outside social life 5) has led to many addictions- people do not realize that you become addicted

to this sort of technological, such as the internet and cell phones 6) malicious motives- people abuse

the social networking sites and communication to suspecting beings pretending to be someone else.

Another big thing in technology in communication is technology in communication is everything on

the computer. Medical records in hospital and doctors offices have changed so much in the last

decade. With it transitioning over from paper files to computer technology in my opinion, I honestly

would rather have the paper still. Yeah, it takes up space, but no computer “hackers” can still access

your personal information. The HIPAA law can only stand on its own for so long. If hackers can steal

your identity and get credit card information. What makes people think that this is safe? I personally

am one United States citizen that does not feel it is.

By using the electronic medical records system, it allows storage, modification and retrieval of

patients records. The effectiveness of electronic medical records are less likely to happen because

everything is done electronically. When it came to medical records or any documentation, the law was

it could only be held for a seven year time frame. It can not be held any longer under the statue of

limitation law.

Anyway electronic medical records are made up of all the reports, assessments, legal

documents and financial references to a persons history. The particular system requires communication

and technology in which takes part in an integrated system of health care that includes planning and

management of patient information. With the paper records it (to them medically employed) consumed

a vast amount of time, patience and finally costs in a health care system. By doing medical records,

maximizes the storage capacity in which it allows for more problems in the storage. The thing a lot

of people do not realize is that “storage capacity”, causes records to become misplaced. In which

misplacing these records can create errors, sometimes misunderstanding conflict between people

and management and dismissal of employment.

Electronic medical records system has been implemented. But mainly used for administrative

rather than a clinical purpose in the healthcare. Primary care physician and specialists can

communicate and transfer information much faster, as well as addressing their patients needs in a

timely manner. Many organizations and medical facilitates are being compelled to move in this age

of technology. By doing this they red themselves and their companies of their “old ways” in which

they conducted business and move into the “new era”. By doing this implementation can be costly

for companies, however in the long run it pays off. One thing that was recommended for improve-

ment was information that is made available to the public, in the case it can be deceptive. Another

thing that should be done quarterly by the Department of Health, along with the Department of

Insurance to make sure that everything is done properly, more so than just the records,

that has been invented where information for patients are stored in one centralized location and is

readily accessible to a doctor, specialists or insurance company in an instant just by clicking of a

button. Medical professional feel that having this tool in their facilities are saving patients lives and

doctors are having less malpractice lawsuits. Which is false malpractice goes both ways with hands

on and records. Implemented electronic medical records can be very costly. Over a period of time

it outset the cost and also provided a huge savings for facilities, providers and insurance companies.

They also capitalize and it is also cost saving, because there is less paper. They saved and eliminated

the use of huge filing cabinets with patients records. Coordination of care among, healthcare.

combined. The benefits is that staff and doctors can access your records from any location. They can

pull up your medication you are on, what your allergic too any condition you may have a long with

tests or anything coming up.
