Lastpass is a program, which allows you to have one master password throughout every web site a user has an account with. Having just one password may be convenient, but also very bad. On Monday lastpass had announced that hackers hacked into its computer system and got access to user email addresses, password reminders, and encrypted versions of peoples master password.

According to the article, hackers grabbed encoded versions of people’s passwords. So if your master password is an easy password to remember, for an example the place you were born in, or your password is password. Not only did the hackers grab passwords but password reminders as well. All this information could be sold to people. Identity thieves can have access email accounts, social media, banks, and even hospital records. Cyber security experts reacted strongly to the news. “For months, many of them have touted LastPass and similar services as an elegant solution to one of today's annoying problems of keeping track of multiple passwords” (Pagliery, n.d.). Although the hackers did not get plain text versions of the master passwords, they are still able to hack into anything if the password is simple. They could also sale it to people or pay for people to decrypt the encryptions. “Keeping the same password is reckless and remembering dozens is annoying. This third option relies entirely on trusting a company to protect them” (Pagliery, n.d.).

After reading this article, I found it to be very interesting. I also learned that there is an application you can download to have this master password. I would never use an application such as this one. It is so easy to hack into anything now and days. Nothing is safe on the Internet. So why would you put you banking, private information, and everything else you do on the Internet, in the hands of a company?
