...Imagine a mom playing with her child on a nice afternoon. Both of them are laughing, and having fun. Then the next day the mom contacts a serial killer, and pays him money to kill her baby. Now that might seem crazy, but it happens. While it might not happened at that age, moms do give money to serial killers, ones that kill unborn babies. That is what happens when a mom aborts, they use their money, sometimes their insurance’s money, and even worse sometimes they even use taxpayer’s money (Ganga)! The U.S. protects endangered animals more than unborn baby humans. It shouldn’t be that way, the U.S. should protect both equally. Veterinarians don’t abort baby puppies, so why should doctors abort baby humans (Forslee)? It is just wrong. Abortion is a big problem in our community. In the U.S, there...

...The Effects of Teenage Relationships Different relationships affect teenagers in various ways. Friends impact teenagers almost the same amount as their parents. Teenagers go to their friends for help or to ask questions that they could not ask their parents about. Most of the time their friends give them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most cases they tell their friends how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a teenager to get a good education. Some start to fail in school because they are hanging out with their boyfriend or girlfriend instead of doing their work. Throughout adolescence, teenagers are positively and negatively impacted by several relationships such as friends, family, and love relationships. Friends have a big influence on teenagers because they can say and do many of things to teenagers who think they were friends. They also start rumors and take their friends girlfriend or boyfriend and have them cheat on their friend. Some go out to drink, smoke, or to do drugs just to have fun but some think of driving home and most teenagers do not even make it to their driveways. Some teenagers who are so depressed about their social problems even think about committing suicide. Most start to hurt others turn into “goth’s” by dressing in all black. Many of depressed people show how they feel by dressing differently...

...the teenager this creates struggles for them because more often than not, they end up with the load of caring and looking after the child while the teenage parents are at school or out doing other things that teenagers do. Raising a child as a teenager is not easy. Teen parents are more likely to struggle to deal with parenthood, and the child is more likely to grow up with numerous issues. Every year about 750,000 teenage girls will get pregnant unexpectedly (Gonchar and Schulten). Then society is faced with the question of “Do Television Shows like 16 and Pregnant Promote or Discourage Teenage Pregnancy?” which has caused controversial discussions since the release of the show. There is no way to put the blame of an excess in teenage pregnancy on the creation of television shows such as this. Television media shows do not promote teenage pregnancy because we all know that getting pregnant is a result of one’s personal choices and decisions. Since as early as the 1990s, teenage pregnancy has posed a big problem for the United States society. The United States has the highest rate of teenage parents in the industrialized world. The debate and issue over teenage pregnancy came long before shows such as Teen Moms and 16 and Pregnant came along. Statistics show that 46% of high school students have admitted to have participated in sexual activity. In addition, 34% of those sexually active teenagers said they did not use protection. These surveys were given to the students...

...have not been educated about sex prior to becoming pregnant, due to the lack of communication between the teenager and her parents. There are major health concerns to be faced for teenage mothers and their unborn child. There are options available to teen moms when making decisions on parenthood; being a teenage mother is one of the most difficult experiences a young person might ever face. There are many causes for teenage pregnancy. First, teenagers take unwanted risks due to lack of knowledge and education on teenage pregnancy. Many parents feel uncomfortable about discussing sex with their children. “Most people evade their children from talking about sex. In some cases, they provide false information regarding sex and discourage their children to participate in any informative discussion about sex.” Giving your child false information is not smart! Talking to your children at an early age and answering any questions they have directly and honestly can be a step closer towards preventing teenage pregnancy. That’s why it is very important as parents to educate our children before it’s too late. (What are the Causes of Teenage Pregnancy) Lack of knowledge for safe sex is considered to be another cause of teen pregnancy. Teens between the puberty ages of 12 to 15 years old are exposed to the subject of sex. Because both boys and girls are curious about the changes in their bodies, they act in unprotected sexual ways, primarily due to lack of knowledge. Teenagers want to talk...

Many teenagers watch television daily. Television has evolved from the past decade from reporting news to reality TV. Many television shows in the 21st century are now engrossed in teenage pregnancy. Many different actresses play the role of a pregnant teenage girl or the actress is actually pregnant in real life, this causes teenage girls to idolize them and when watching their idol it inspires one to be like them. Television is a very powerful tool and can significantly impact the actions of its viewers. With the amount of teenagers watching television today, movies and television shows that partake in having teenage pregnancy in their programs influence actual pregnancy within the teenage girls that are watching the shows. Historically, in the 1950’s, people got married before they were 20 and being pregnant while you were a teenager was the norm. This was because women were less likely to gain an education passed elementary school so they got married and started their families in their mid-teens (Daphne Matthews, 2011). During the 1950’s, television was introduced; however in its infancy, it was only used to pass...

...graduating and going off to college, I was trying to figure out whether or not I would keep the baby or give him up for adoption. I hid my pregnancy because I was afraid of the reaction of my peers and teachers, who had expressed such high hopes about my future. My family life was a mess. My parents were understandably upset with my choices. I believe that for a good portion of my pregnancy I was depressed, and I felt very isolated. Because of the stigma associated with teenage pregnancy, adolescents may also experience extreme emotional highs and lows. It's important for a teen to assess how she feels: Sad? Anxious? Embarrassed? and then acknowledge these feelings. Pregnant teens should reach out to friends and family and share their thoughts. I felt anxious that friends may not want to hang out with me once I started showing, and I should have told them. I bet many friends would have stood by me and offered support during this time. I was sad about disappointing my family, and I should have better expressed those feelings — it's important to ask for support and reassurance. And as I was worried about my future, I know how important it is to talk about your concerns with your family or a trusted adult who can help access all available health, educational, and social services. Most importantly, it's essential to read up on information about pregnancy hormones. Teens may have a hard time telling the difference between typical mood swings associated with pregnancy, and unusual, lingering...

...Teen pregnancy is an important issue in America today and has been for several decades. In the 60’s and 70’s, it was handled much differently than it is today. When a teenage girl became pregnant in the pre-abortion era, it was hidden at all costs. The girl became a pariah if she was ever found out and as it was considered a disgrace for a young unmarried girl to become pregnant. Families would often take great lengths to hide the pregnancy, even going so far as to send the girl away to have the baby in secret and would often place the baby up for adoption then going about life as though nothing had occurred. No one knew the affects this would have for the mother and child until many years later, when the child became old enough to search for the mother who gave them up. It affected the mother in the most grievous way because not only did she have to endure a pregnancy (most times alone), but she also had to deal with the emotional and psychological issues that come with an unplanned pregnancy, carrying the baby to term, giving birth and finally, giving the child away. However, the child had to deal with knowing that his or her mother and father, for whatever reason, could not, would not or simply did not want to take care of a child. The community is affected because of the costs incurred by the prenatal care and the delivery of these babies. Then many of these babies were born with medical issues due to their mothers’ young age. Studies show...

...4 Honors Mrs. Wilson 9/06/12 The type of work I chose to react to was the teenage radio diaries because I figured there would be several reactions formed in my mind since the pieces were coming from actual teenagers. From the website, I selected “Melissa’s Diary, Part 1: Teen Mom” and “Melissa’s Diary, Part 2: Raising Isaaiah.” Melissa recorded each one herself. She talked about some of the struggles she had both during her pregnancy and after having Isaaiah for one year. In her first radio diary, Melissa states that she is 18 years old and about eight and a half months pregnant. She never meant to get pregnant, but after growing up in multiple foster families, she sounded excited to have someone of her own and who would love her no matter what. Melissa admitted that she considered abortion when she first realized she was pregnant. I paused the diary to reflect on what has been said. After hearing that, my impression of Melissa changed. When I hear the word “abortion,” I think of killing an innocent life. I began listening again and she says exactly what I was thinking. She does not agree with abortion or adoption. If I were in her shoes, I definitely would not consider abortion, but maybe adoption if I was not in a good enough state to raise a baby. Melissa said that all of her friends had children except for one. This made me think that her group of friends thought having a baby was some sort of accessory or trend. That is usually what I think when I see girls my age...

...parental guidance, as well as peer pressure. Television plays a role in what our children come to believe that how things should and shouldn't be. Some shows and movies portray life to be something other than that of being realistic. There was a time when HIV was a scare, but now that folk are seeing victims living with this disease longer due to the medication at hand, the use of condoms have decreased. Since the ninety's, teen pregnancy have decreased but remain to be at a high level. Some believe that pregnancy among teens are okay in that they are permitted to marry young. We the people in America don't see this as being normal. Americans see teen pregnancy as being a deficit, a henderance to life. Not only does teen pregnancy cause a delay in life for some, the health risks can be life threatening. Research shows that 85% of these pregnancies are unplanned, which in any population can increase the risk for problems. The biggest risk for teen mothers is delaying prenatal care or worse, 7.2% received no care at all. (Weiss, August 2013.) Some teens are ashamed of their situation and refrain from telling their parents or someone who would be able to guide them to the help needed. They are afraid of what would be said or worse. Parents should establish a relationship with their children where that they feel comfortable coming to them with any problem he or she may have. Sitting down and talking to your kids will instill some knowledge of the risks and consequences of choices...

And teens, if your parents aren’t talking to you about sex don’t assume they don’t care. Teenage pregnancy is 100% preventable. As Hampton directed a show that resembles these hardships and possible outcomes of having the responsibility of being a teen parent, she goes in depth about the different events and obstacles that may be faced. Parents are so strict when it comes to their teens becoming sexually active that when they become sexually active they feel that they can’t talk to their parents putting them at a higher risk for teen pregnancy due to the miss use of contraception. Secret Life was created to spread awareness about safe sex and the responsibilities of being sexually active. Throughout this show Hampton demonstrates the difference between adoption, abortion, and miscarriage.
