Social media is a place where you talk to people and share images and videos with them. websites like myspace, digg and flickr all count as social media. What’s the one thing you can do to make the world a better place? I believe and many others also agree social networking is causing negative effects in our society. In the article “ Teenage Social Media Butterflies May Not Be Such a Bad Idea,” it states, “ teens who struggle with depression or aggressive or delinquent behavior are more likely to find… digital land mines. Unsettled teens more likely to harass, bully and even take online risk.” Another way to say this is kids who are not well adjusted and have the freedom to go online will only find trouble online. This is important because kids could get hurt by the troubled kids online. In the article “Antisocial Networking?” it states, “ worry about the social… darker side of online interactions, like cyber-bullying or texting sexually explicit messages.” This shows that the internet gives people so much freedom that they show the monster they really are behind a computer or cell phone screen by cyber-bullying people. Some people may argue that using social networking makes you mentally healthier. For example, they contend that in the article “ Teenage Social Media Butterflies May not Be Such a Bad Idea” it states, “ kids most likely to spend lots of time on social media sites are… the psychologically healthiest.” This is an understandable concern, however in the article “ Antisocial Networking” it states, “ electronic communication may be masking teens less interested in face-to-face communication with their friends.
