WORKSHEET – UNIT 1

Task 1 – List 5 qualities that a ‘good’ teacher should have and give reasons for your choices. Which of these qualities do you consider to be more important, and why?

The five qualities of a good teacher are as follows: A teacher should be kind and patient; a teacher should know and has or should goal for a mastery of the subject she/ he is teaching; a teacher should be able to motivate his/ her students to learn; a teacher should have a strong capacity to amplify students thirst for learning by imparting enthusiasm, build interest and establish a friendly rapport to his/ her students; and lastly a teacher should have a great eye and a heart to see a students needs, and weaknesses and thus, has the ability to help their students turn those weaknesses into strength and provides their utmost support to them up to the point of seeing and pointing out corrections without offending them. Among these qualities, I may consider that one quality is incomparable from the other, for all of these qualities, are essentials to be a good teacher. We should see all these qualities as not parts of the whole but as a one whole to the totality of a good teacher. We, teachers must possessed them all so that we can be a great example and inspiration of what is true meaning of love and life in relation to all the knowledge of the subject we are teaching to our students.

I think among the many roles of the teacher, the top five (5) in my list are the roles of a MODEL, RESOURCE/ FACILITATOR, PROMPTER, OBSERVER/ MONITOR, TUTOR

I see these as "trial experiences" that represent a much bigger and more deep-rooted exploration of their society, rules and surroundings. Without putting pressure on the student, we can play syllable games, word games, etc. to test the child's present level of understanding, use new words in relation to words they are already comfortable with so that they can grasp the meaning and make it part of their speech.
