Brother: A Fictional Narrative

...'...thank you...' Something about that simple, appreciative gesture made his stomach twist. Made bile rise up in the back of his throat. He glared at his hands, not wanting to meet Amaimon's gaze. "Don't be thankful," he snarled lowly, still refusing to meet his brother's eyes even when they searched his own gaze "...I'm a monster...you shouldn't thank me for anything." The time King stayed in his small huff for a couple of minutes until finally the red that blossomed so fully against his brother's pale cheeks and he smiled again, laughing, trying to shake of the momentary seriousness. "Hmm," he hummed quietly and shook his head " it's not stupid, I understand. I probably should have asked first, but you just looked so tired and cold," setting the towel aside, he pulled the younger demon closer to him, letting his eyes close sleepily, he was tired too. "Alright...just tell me if you want to move or anything..." "I bet if you could have chosen to be the oldest you would have, even if it meant being father's lap dog like Lucifer is. I would...even if it meant I was a puppet...I was the youngest for so long...I don't know if father will have anymore children other than Rin and Yukio, but I know what it feels like..." That was why he'd told Amaimon that it wasn't his fault. Because it wasn't and he knew what it felt like to feel like it was. Father hadn't had children for a long time after he had been born, not legitimate ones anyway, with the way Satan was he was sure over those...

Compare the Ways Wordsworth and Lawrence Express Their Enthusiasm for Nature

...William Wordsworth's piece, "The Rainbow," offers an intriguing look into the human soul. Standing at only ten lines, the poem details a journey through Wordsworth's philosophical beliefs. The subject of the poem “the rainbow” simply answers the question as it implies, through metaphorically expressing the abstract idea, “ the love of nature” creating the theme for the poem. The imagery of the rainbow creates feelings which help Wordsworth communicate his ideas and feelings. Which in this case are his contemplative ideas of growing up but never changing, like the rainbow never changes. The register of the poem is very simplistic, with short simple lexis which creates a stead pace. Also the gentle soft lexis ‘life’ ‘heart’ ‘sky’ creates a great contrast to the hard harsh word ‘die!’ which is where Wordsworth is at the climax of expressing his emotion towards the thought of not feeling the same way about nature. The majority of the poem is monosyllabic which suggests simplicity but the verbal constructs “was it/is it/be it/could wish” along with the lexis “piety” modifies the simplicity. This suggest the sense of humility and awe Wordsworth feels if the presence of nature and the monosyllables express the grandeur and weight of that feeling. The pattern in the phonology within the poem also suggests awe but soon shows excitement. The beginning of the poem contains long-vowelled syllables such as ‘heart’ and ‘behold’, portraying wonder and bewilderment, where as ‘was it’ ‘is it’...

A Study on Semantic Features of Purposive Adjuncts in English and Vietnamese

...A STUDY ON SEMANTIC FEATURES OF PURPOSIVE ADJUNCTS IN ENGLISH AND VIETNAMESE Le Thi Bich Hanh University of Foreign Languages, The University of Danang Email: lebichhanh_dn@yahoo.com ABSTRACT Having a good guide to translate appropriately English purposive adjuncts (PAs) into Vietnamese and vice versa has become monumentally necessary. So, in this study, we would like to compare and contrast English and Vietnamese PAs in terms of their semantic features in meaningful interactional situations in the strong belief that using appropriate PAs, writers and speakers can reduce the negative meanings of their sentences and increase the acceptability of the readers and hearers in communication. In terms of theory, the study focuses on identifying the similarities and differences in the uses of adjuncts to express purposes and hence finding the cultural factors affecting those choices. In practice, the study hopes to provide some implications in language teaching and learning as well as translating. The practical information in the research can raise language users’ awareness of the subtle differences between the uses of PAs in both languages so that they can fulfill their communicative purpose in real life. Key words: purposive adjuncts; purposive subordinators; semantic features; compare; implication * Introduction Most languages in the world have particular linguistic devices for expressing purposes implicitly and explicitly. Purposive adjuncts (PAs) are some of those...

Term Policy

...Armed robbery is defined as robbery at gunpoint or with the use or the intent of a weapon. Currently now in play is the three strikes law; which differs from state to state. In 1990, the three strike law became very popular, causing a massive growth within the prison system. With the popularity of the law, lawyers and law professionals had come to know the three strike law as the habitual offender law. The three strikes law states that a person convicted of a grave crime on three or more separate occasions will receive the maximum sentence possible. The reason for this law is automatic and longer incarceration periods for any person committing three or more felonies. The objective of this bill I would like to propose would be to alter the length of time served for those convicted of armed robbery. If this bill were approved it would extend the length of time, an offender serves. The offenders convicted of armed robbery would serve a sentence double the length of the current sentencing. For this bill to be put into place, there would need to be federal regulations met to comply with the Federal Court decision that the state has to abide by. The goals of this bill are...

...There are several aspects of a new item: that you need to know and learners need to learn.  1. What it means.   They need to understand meaning within the given context. 2. What it sounds like.   They need to know the natural pronunciation and spelling of the language. 3. What it looks like.   They need to know how to form the language (how it is constructed).  4. How and when it is used.   They need to know the function of the language.  (This is often referred to as, MPF.) As well as knowing the MPF, students need to use the language - practice. Presentation is a rather controversial word! Experienced teachers know how best to develop a student’s awareness of the language without falling into the ’today we are going to do conditional sentences’ approach. Language needs context because context provides meaning. One way to illustrate meaning is via a situation. This can be done in a number of ways, including pictures....

Essay Mistakes

...Essay Mistakes Since attending the University of Houston, I have written ten essays for English. In the beginning I was a little nervous about writing for college; however, now I am more relaxed about my writing. Reviewing those essay I have notice several errors I continuously made; comma splices and using there and their incorrectly. “A pregnancy at a young age, could rob you of your youth, the phrase, a baby with a baby, comes to mind.” This an example of one of the comma errors I have made on essays. Common splices occur when you use commas when they are not needed. To correct the example above; I would rewrite the sentence to read as follows: A pregnancy at a young age could rob you of your youth, “A baby with a baby” comes to mind. Using the words “there and their” in the incorrect form is another error I continuously made. The essays I have written thus far I have used these word incorrectly twelve times. To correct these errors, I should first know what each word means. There, is at or in a place. There is also used in clauses which the real subject follows the verb for example; Burning calories isn’t easy but there are soothing exercises available. The definition for “their” is belonging to, made by or done by them. The boys went with their father is an example of their used correctly. Other errors I have made during essay writing are fragments and run ons. A fragment is an incomplete part. Michael Jackson began performing at age thirteen is...

Lines 10-13 is the middle paragraph of the document. This paragraph should change the beginning of it to read as this memo is about the addition of Silent Watch to our company systems. Then the next sentence should be changed to read. Inform all employees that they should limit their computer use and e-mail to work projects only and that their work would be monitored. The last paragraph should have a complete date for the probationary period in line 14. ...budget. The state is in despereate need of reform or change to keep there prison system running. One key promblem in the prison system is the rapid boom in prison population. since 1960 the population in the prisons have grown from 9,000 inmates to over 50,000 inmates. Michigan on avergae keeps prisoners locked up a year longer than other states. Michigan also has more prisoners locked up past there proale date than other states do. What is being done about this promblem, well not alot. Governor Jennifer Grandholm of michigan had promised reform in the prison system. She closed 20 small prison camps which will save the state of michigan over 1 billion dollars over a ten year period. She also spoke about reducing prison population however most michigan inmates served there full sentence or ever longer.
