Oppression is the underlying theme within these books that demonstrates power and domination which results in the situations of slavery and victims of fate. These two novels give a better understanding of the theme of oppression that’s presented within the characters and the heart of the stories. Tess of the D’Urbervilles is a story about tragedy and oppressive events that Tess faces. These events begin to occur after the death of Prince, the horse of the Durbeyfield’s.
