Test Preparation
“Message to My Freshman Students” is an essay written by Keith A. Parsons that talks about his first time in many years teaching a freshman course in college. Saying that some freshman are often absent and are not responsible. He compares teachers from high school and professors at college. Also he gives advice that you have to listen and take issue of documentation, be responsible. I agree and disagree with some points of Keith Parsons. Some points are true about freshman, college, and high school, but other points are not true. One of them, which I agree, is when he states that teachers in high school used to teach us with the same routine of a test preparation. This essay will demonstrate why Parsons is correct.
When I was in high school, one of my teachers used to use the routine of reading a chapter and answer the questions. It was the same thing almost every day. She didn’t teach us, we had to learn it ourselves. Every day was the same thing, there was no other routine, yet I thought that we could do projects and learn better while interacting with other student, instead of just read and read.
Another teacher from high school did teach very well! I really liked that science class. But when it was time to take the state test (STAAR), I didn’t expect to have questions that we didn’t even knew about. But because I tried my best and work hard to pass that test, my result was that I did passed the test.
Teachers should not just focus on preparing us for the all-important tests. They have to know if their students are actually learning. They should give some quizzes to know if student are learning from the lessons. Like Parsons stated that his routine is have a bit of lecture, a discussion and little or no test preparation.
In conclusion, that is why I agree with Parsons

Case Study #1 Turner Test Prep Co.

...With an undergrad degree in business, a master's degree in accounting, and previous experience as a teacher for a test prep company under her belt, Jessica Turner decided to start Turner Test Prep Co., a California based company specializing in Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam preparation. After three years of operation, Turner Test Prep Co. possessed about 10 percent of the small market and was facing fierce competition from its rival company, National Testing Services (NTC). By Spring of 2003, Turner was pleased that the number of customers was rising each session, but was concerned that she had not tapped enough of the market and was not growing in the right direction. Furthermore, a lack of student attendance in live lectures caused her to wonder if there was opportunity in formatting the course differently. Finally, Turner realized that she neglected to calculate her break-even point. In short, Turner was questioning the effectiveness of several aspects of her business plan such as her differentiation, marketing, and advertising strategies. At the beginning of this case study Turner starts off making some good choices such as using the effectuation process to come up with her idea to develop a CPA testing prep company. This process leads her to choose a career path and business that makes use of her knowledge, experience, and resources. Another great choice Turner makes is to do research to find a prime location for her business. In addition, it is wise of her to...

Standardized Testing

...begin with. It has defeated the purpose of a rough draft, if the first version of the paper is “perfect.” And annual Standardized testing was mandated in 2002 after the No Child Left Behind Act, when US students fell in math and science in world rankings. These program features and tests contribute to the students’ decline in a number of ways. By offering “multiple choice”, students’ understanding or ability to properly structure a paragraph or an entire essay isn’t being tested, their ability to recall information is. While being able to memorize things is helpful, it’s of no help long term. English and composition classes in higher education institutions will expect students to be able to demonstrate their understanding. “State assessments in mathematics and English often fail to capture the full spectrum of what students know and can do…. Students, parents, and educators know there is much more to a sound education than picking the right answer on a multiple-choice question” (Problems with Standardized Testing). Students are being taught the minimum required to pass the standardized tests and basic test-taking skills without being required to implement any real knowledge. Standardized tests also don’t cover many skills that parents would want their children to develop while at school, including teamwork, creativity, how to ask good questions, how to persist with difficult projects and how to apply skills to...

Infamous Sats

...examination to test ones understanding of basic concepts. For those students who want to attend an Ivy league or elite college, the SATs are more than just a test. It is a deciding factor whether one will be accepted or not into a college or university. The scores completely overlook the determination, creativity, and desire of students to try and reach their goal. The SATs are a phony test that does not evaluate ones overall knowledge; they are overstated on their value and lead young students to a lot of pressure and stress. The SAT test is good in theory, but should not be used to measure intelligence. Some claim that the test should be required to test students physically and mentally on how well they perform on tests. Large-scale meta-analyses by researchers at the University of Minnesota have found that “SAT performance is as good of a predictor of overall college grade point average as it is of freshman grade point average” and other researchers have documented that “the SAT predicts life outcomes well beyond the college years including income and occupational achievements” (Lubinksi and Benbow, 1). However, this is not true. How can one test, one score, one meaningless number, indicate how well you will do in life? The SATs should not be a determining factor of whether a student is admitted to a university or not. Taking an SAT test is not for all students. Some people are visual learners and need it to be taught orally to comprehend information. This test is completely...

Coffee from Ampalaya Seeds

...Coffee from Ampalaya Seeds Coffee is a brewed beverage with a dark, slightly acidic flavor prepared from the roasted seeds of the coffee plant, called coffee beans. Green (unroasted) coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world. Coffee can have a stimulating effect on humans due to its caffeine content. It is one of the most-consumed beverages in the world. Ampalaya (Momordica charantia Linn.), also known as Bitter Melon, is a crawling vine that grows well in tropical countries, particularly in the Philippines. Known for its bitter taste, the Ampalaya is at once a staple ingredient in Filipino and Asian cuisines and a reliable home remedy for various illnesses, particularly diabetes. But aside from its role as a healthy food, Ampalaya is especially valued by diabetics for its known anti-diabetes. The researcher decided to use ampalaya seeds instead of throwing it and decided to use the seeds as coffee to know if it could be a good alternative to the commercial one. Objectives: 1. To produce coffee using ampalaya seeds as the main ingredient. 2. To determine if the ampalaya seeds have considerable characteristics of the products in terms of color, aroma, taste, and acidity. 3. To determine and compare the levels of acceptability of the coffee samples. Hypotheses: 1. Carullo, Shery Lyn A. Gutierrez, Joe Mar C. Monforte, Roselyn G. Reyes, Edward Angelo A. BSA 3-9 Submittes To: Prof. Leandro Cruz Fua WHAT’S NEW IN ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS? Cloud Computing—Impact for Accountants According to Ron Gill, cloud computing is a way of using business applications over the Internet—such as the way you use the Internet for your bank transactions. Think of cloud computing as a way to increase IT capacity or add capabilities without investing in new infrastructure, training new people, or licensing new software. Mostly, we’re talking about a subscription-based or pay-per-use service that makes IT’s existing capabilities scalable whenever the need exists. Estimates suggest that the fast-growing cloud computing industry will reach $42 billion by 2012. Cloud computing resources may be categorized as data storage, infrastructure and platform, or application software (i.e., business applications such as purchases, HR, sales, etc.). If a firm would like to take advantage of cloud computing, it would most likely need to subscribe to all three of these categories from the service provider. For example, business applications depend on company data that is stored in the database, and data storage depends on the appropriate infrastructure...
