Many of today’s values are derived from respect and responsibility. It is the basis for civility and consideration towards others. We can’t get away with being rude our entire lives and never expect to pay the consequences. Our actions will always lead to some sort of punishment or reward. A disrespectful person will not be followed by good things. If a person is being treated with respect, they are being shown that you expect good things to precede you and them as well.
A wise man shows regard for another’s thoughts. Recent studies (conducted by the University of California, Davis) reveal that a happy person that desires a peaceful existence gives and receives more respect as opposed to a person with blatant disrespect for those around them.
Today, so many of us are busy with our own hectic schedules that we don’t have a lot of room for anyone else or their needs or feelings. This doesn’t show the intention of being rude or disrespectful, but in reality that is exactly what it translates into. We are losing out on so many things by being rude and inconsiderate. We miss opportunities to excel and to better ourselves as an individual as well as for your career. Since the first key step to building any relationship, whether it be work related or personal, is respect, then the absence or breakdown of respect is a key factor in the breakdown relationships and the occurrence of conflict.
Another way of understanding why respect is so important is to imagine a world without respect. Think, if nobody has respect for others views and/or thoughts, what

would the situation be? We would live in a world where we would stop tolerating each other and would become so selfish in our own thoughts and deeds. This action is defined as moral degradation. People would begin to fall towards immoral actions. In short, if we take respect out of human values, then there will be nothing left but chaos and impudence. As a society, we need respect to function, to collaborate and to work together to keep a peaceful world.
Furthermore, complacency is “A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction. Especially when coupled with an awareness of danger, trouble, or controversy.” As defined by The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. 2000.
We become complacent when we are overly comfortable, whether it be a particular process, situation, or even lifestyle. People can become complacent in many areas of our lives. Relationships, work, health and wellbeing for example. In work, complacency makes for a dead end job or business which leads to vexation or discontent.
Complacency can become a safety hazard. Many jobs are repetitive in nature, and the more they are repeated, the better the chance of becoming complacent without even realizing it. Therein lies the potential danger of complacency. It has been estimated that 80% to 90% of workplace accidents are the result of unsafe acts. The increasing number of unsafe acts is a primary indicator that workers may be becoming

complacent about safety. Employees may not be paying attention to what they are doing or to the task at hand. They may be taking shortcuts and risks.
When it comes to safety, complacency can be a literal “killer” on the job. Each moment we are working we must keep focused on the task at hand. There is much danger in going into “autopilot” when working on the job, especially in the military. All too often we don’t realize how complacent we are until we have a near miss or close call. Those events tend to jump start our hearts and focus our attention . . . at least for a little while, on the task at hand.
Complacency is one of the most dangerous positions in the military. It can cost people their lives. Being too comfortable and not focused allows for a more relaxed mind. Therefore, situational awareness is not being applied and lives are at stake. Becoming complacent in the workplace is not only a danger, but can also cost you your career. Being too comfortable and relaxed can cause mistakes and “slip ups” which, in turn, can cause career halting errors. Complacency in any job or career especially that of military personnel, is proof that the job is going nowhere. In all workplaces it is important to always strive to do better. To excel and promote is to not get comfortable or complacent with your job.

The Future for Space Elevators

...Jubin Shah The Future for Space Elevators: The Moon and Beyond An interesting concept, a space elevator from the Earth to the Moon, has been suggested since 1885, or perhaps even earlier (Soderman). Several countries, including the United States, have begun working on the concept with hopes of making it a reality. The NASA Lunar Science Institute, now known as the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute, has noted that a space affiliate, the Liftport Group, is being funded through Kickstart to help finance the first step in building the space elevator (Soderman). The Liftport website describes their moon elevator project as follows: LiftPort’s proposed research will develop practical, near-term solutions for construction and expansion of a Lunar Elevator. The study will include characterization of materials; analysis of required rocketry and robotics; and evaluation of landing sites and methods of anchoring to the Lunar surface. Additionally, Ribbon spooling, infrastructure deployment, and micrometeorite mitigation techniques will be explored (Lunar). (Now) NASA has also has been instrumental in developing aspects of the moon elevator. Several years ago, NASA sponsored a million dollar contest for whoever could design the best mechanism to climb the elevator. LaserMotive won $900,000 from NASA's Centennial Challenges program for meeting the Level 1 standard of having their laser-powered robot climb a 900-meter-long cable suspended from a hovering helicopter...

My views of learnig have changed because, before I thought learning was gaining new knowledge. Now I know its much more than that. Critical thinking is a big part of learing the way you interpt what you read helps you retain knowledge. Learning envolves your life experiences that build your social skills and how to take direction. I am a strong-willed learner. I sometimes make my own rules than follow them. I use all my learning patterns i don't avoid any. My Learning Pattern scores are Sequence 32 Percision 32 Technical 27 Confluence 21. I use sequence first as I always do things in order and I dont like clutter. I use percision first as I always ask alot of questions and need an explanation for everything. I use technical reasoning first as I like to work alone and build anything. I use confluence as needed as I brainstorm before starting a task and to create things from the top of my head. All four of my patterns interact like before starting a task I brainstorm ideas then I get the information I need. That I put everything in order then draft what I have to do. The benefits of using my learning patterns. Is using sequence on assignments is have everything in order...

Reflections

...EXP 105 Final paper The concept of learning is no longer thought of as a curriculum of study. At that time learning was thought of as "the ability to read and recite, primarily on recall, and was limited to how much a person could memorize." (Dr. Johnston, Intentional Learning for College Success). Knowing now that learning is both personal and universal, the way we intentionally learn is a very different notion indeed." We are engaged in learning at all times every moment of our day. The actions of taking in the world around us, understanding and making sense of it, and finally being able to respond in a appropriate way, accounts for making up the aspects needed to learn. Pursuit of learning with purpose and intention requires time, and we must have this opportunity to consider our thoughts." (Dr. Johnston). When first beginning my journey in EXP 105 my notions of learning were very different and quite basic in thought. Although I truly believe, as I did at the begining of the course, that learning is personal, and we all learn in different ways. The difference being then I had no clue what the LCI was. These learning patterns that were taught to us were a complete mystery, and quite frankly I never knew they existed at all. I now see learning in a much broader perspective and after being given the tools to understand myself as a intentional learner, this reinforces my first thoughts of individuals learning in different ways. My views of learning have greatly changed in regards...

Jailbreak

...Daniel Martinez Charles Mullin SPCOM 102 11 June 2013 What is Jailbreak? Whenever a new popular phone came out you would notice it. Back when I was in Junior high I would see the Motorola Razr in almost everyone in my classmates’ hand that had a phone. It was the “must have” phone. When Apple released its first iPhone, back in June of 2007, it was one the fastest growing phones on the market. Because of the new features the iPhone had to offer, it sparked ideas and numerous possibilities. With the following of the new iPhone generations, new ideas were added into them and became more and more popular. But to some people they wanted those ideas already on the iPhone. Shortly, after the first iPhone, came Jailbreak. This allowed expanding those ideas on the iPhone. According to an article by Forbes, dating February 8, 2013, nearly seven million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners have cracked Apple’s restrictions on their devices using the jailbreaking tool Evasi0n in four days making it the most popular Jailbreak ever. Jailbreak gives people the ability to customize their Apple devices. I will explain more about what Jailbreak is, as well the themes, apps, and tweaks. So what is Jailbreak? By definition from the book “iOS Hacker’s Handbook,” states that “Jailbreak is the process of removing the limitations on Apple devices running the iOS operating system through the use of software and hardware exploits.” Jailbreaking will allow the user to personalize and customize their device...

Multimedia Activity

...EXP 105 Final Assignment I would explain learning as an integral part of being a student. I feel that having the mentality of always having room to learn will ultimately lead to success. From the very first day of class until now my views of what learning means really haven’t changed. It has always been something I focused on in every aspect of life, that wanting to learn more attitude. Over my college careers I have seen two different types of students. One which is the type of student who feels like they know everything and can’t possible learn anything else. They feel that with their current state of knowledge there isn’t room to learn more about that current subject. I think it deals with two different things their unwillingness to learn and not knowing what else their missing. The second type of student is the one that thrives on learning everything there is about a certain subject. Always finding new ways to inform themselves and having the learning attitude. So my advice to any new students taking this class is to be like the second student and that knowing you never stop learning. I am a strong willed learner. I feel that I typically only use three of my learning patterns on a daily basis and one when it is needed. Sequence: 29, Precision: 28, Technical Reasoning: 25, and Confluence: 18. I use Sequence and Technical Reasoning at my job. My job entails a lot of self-management because you are always on your own. Sequence helps me keep track with having a personal...

...Richard Wiggins Exp 105 Week 5 final assignment There is so much information that I learned in this class. I learned that the success of any college student is to understand the concept of being an intentional learner. It is also important to learn how your mind works as a learner. Identifying the four learning patterns is crucial to understanding what kind of learner you are. I learned the importance of understanding the process of being an intentional learner, and how to develop my skills as an intentional learner. Understanding your strengths and weakness as a learner and how they impact you, is also important to know as a student. I also learned that if you learn what the different types of learners there are, you can understand your own personal approach to learning. This class has opened my eyes to the different ways we learn and how becoming an intentional learner can help me succeed in obtaining my goal of getting my degree. If I had to explain to someone who never took this class I would start by teaching them to definition of learning. I would then get into the success factors of motivation, purpose, values, discipline, focus, and readiness. As I get more in-depth about this persons goal as a student, I would tie these factors into his or her goal for getting their education. I would explain what an intentional learner is and how being an intentional learner is the key to their success as a student. I would discuss the learning connections inventory...

Narrative and Character Development

...INT 201: NARRATIVE AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT 01 AVATAR (2009) is a science fiction epic directed by James Cameron centred around a growing conflict between a human corporation and an alien species Known as the Na’vi, on the latter’s native planet of Pandora. Like most blockbusters a third person shooter tie-in was also released by developer Ubisoft. The video game, James’ Cameron’s AVATAR: The Game, is set two years prior in the form of a prequel. Despite this it does little to expand on the films cannon and instead offers up a similarly tailored adventure that adheres to the basic parameters of the movie, utilising many of the same key moments across a clear and discernible 3 act structure. A cross comparative analysis of the two mediums, utilising Volger’s 12 steps Hero’s Journey demonstrates however how the games at first honours this time honoured journey, being plotted along Volger’s step before discarding them to its own detriment. The similarities in the narrative structure of both the film and the game differ little, particularly across their first act structures. Much like the films protagonist Jake Scully your character avatar, Able Ryder, will similarly find him/herself awakening from cryo after a prolonged journey from earth, leaving the ‘ordinay world’ and answering the ‘call to adventure’ within the exotic forests of Pandora. The hero archetype Jake is a fully realised character from the films introduction, who during the...

Flying Turbinee

...assumption for the reason of this invention is possibly saving energy by using renewable sources such as wind, instead of burning fossil fuels for energy that can’t be renewed. The invention hasn’t been fully developed because of the cost, but they do have a flying turbine called the BAT (Buoyant Airborne Turbine) in Alaska for testing. They chose Alaska because of the tough winds and the difficulties of setting up regular turbines. Within 1000 ft. above, “From a distance, the BAT looks a bit like a massive donut, except for a standard three-blade, horizontal axis turbine in the center. With four protruding fins for stability, the helium-filled outer shell, made from a highly-durable fabric, is attached to three high-tensile strength tethers that hold the turbine securely in place” (Nguyen, 2014) With a sensor that enables the turbine and position itself to a bigger wind energy location to harvest or abort from a threat of mother nature. To finish my summary are my questions. “Will there be any manual controls over the turbine if lost communications of the sensor?” “Will there be any kind of motion sensor coming the turbine’s direction? Such as bird and bats, or planes if they plan on going above 10,000 ft.?” “Will the turbine make its way 20,000- 50,000 ft. above ground level, with the winds moving over 100 mph?” Works Cited "SKY WINDPOWER CORPORATION; Patent Issued for Flying Electric Generators with Clean Air Rotors (USPTO 9109575)."Electronics Newsweekly (2015):...

...I love all of the Patterns I am using to get my work done in this course. The patterns I am using help me to feel safe and secure after I finish my work. Basically I am safe using these patterns because they help me to submit work that I am proud of. The only Pattern that I Avoid is Confluence. I don’t like to use my Confluence because I am not a risk taker. I must research my information and give accurate details in order to support my answers. In some other cases I need to tether my Technical Reasoning because I don’t like short but brief answers. I like to get the full picture so I don’t miss anything. In this course we learned the Learning Patterns of the Let Me Learn System. We know now after taking this course that Let Me Learn System will be of the greatest importance for you in the next upcoming years of your college experience. Personal Narrative: A Career As An AVID Student

I helped students complete their homework in any class and also gave them tips for success in middle school, high school, and college to be successful. I also helped them create better study habits and note taking skills. Three tasks I enjoyed the most were showing them new and easier ways to solve equations, easier ways to stay organized, and being able to give them advice on how to figure out what career might be the best for them. I enjoyed these tasks because they not only helped the students, but they also allowed me to use the knowledge I had learned when I was in the AVID program which helped me become successful. Apple

...Public Traded Company Apple INC. In the beginning there was Jobs, Steve Jobs, he is the reason there is an Apple iPod, iPhone, iPad and other Apple products. Apple is an amazing company with amazing products. However, I think Apple has just about had its run. But, I'm only giving you my little opinion. Apple products have a lack of freedom; there is certain things I want to do with my iPhone that Apple won't allow to do. In fact, if I jail break or unlock mines I can perform these tasks. This tells me that Apple wants to control how I use my phone. The question is why? I only want to lock an APP if I let someone use my phone, but Apple won't allow it. In fact, the option to tether from your iPhone always has been an operation of the phone. But Apple didn't want you to do this. Again if I unlock or jail break the phone skies the limit. This bring me to my point, whats next for Apple and its products? Could it be that the reason Apple only allows certain technology's to be access, is to sale them later? Could it be that Apple wants to spoon feed the public to keep the iPhone lovers interested? Without the proper research, I can't give a thought to the management style of Apple. But, If this is the case and Apple is spoon feeding the public to keep them around, is that a part of the management? After I fully research the company and it management style hopefully I will have a clear answer to the question. With no Jobs in place, it seems like Apple is on its last leg. I believe...
