...Expunction Hearing Testimony In January 2014, I went to the Waxahachie DPS office to take a road test and to have the B restriction removed from my license which was issued to me by the Irving DPS location. During registration, the clerk notified me that I had two licenses on file and that one was suspended. In order to take my road test I would have to take care of the suspension first. I ask the clerk if there was anything I could do that day to get them taking care of. I told her I had just graduated from the police academy and I had begun putting in applications for a position as a peace officer and I couldn’t move forward in the hiring process until it was taken care of. The clerk asked me where I had applied and I told her I had applied to Ovilla Police Department. The clerk replied that that was a good place to work and that was the extent of our conversation. She told me that the DPS officer would get in contact with me regarding the license discrepancy. I left my home address and cell phone number for Officer Eaton to contact me and I never heard anything back from him until he showed up at my house with an arrest warrant for Impersonate public servant. This entire ordeal is a classic case of misunderstanding. I also feel that the charge is an insult to my intelligence. ...The scientific literature on the dangers of driving while sending a text message from a mobile phone, or driving while texting, is limited but growing. A simulation study at the Monash University Accident Research Center provided strong evidence that retrieving and, in particular, sending text messages has a detrimental effect on a number of safety-critical driving measures.[6] Specifically, negative effects were seen in detecting and responding correctly to road signs, detecting hazards, time spent with eyes off the road, and (only for sending text messages) lateral position. Mean speed, speed variability, lateral position when receiving text messages, and following distance showed no difference.[7] A separate, yet unreleased simulation study at the University of Utah found a sixfold increase in distraction-related accidents when texting.[8] The low number of scientific studies may be indicative of a general assumption that if talking on a mobile phone increases risk, then texting also increases risk, and probably more so. 89% of U.S. adults think that text messaging while driving is "distracting, dangerous and should be outlawed."[9] The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has released polling data that show that 87% of people consider texting and e-mailing while driving a "very serious" safety threat, almost equivalent to the 90% of those polled who consider drunk driving a threat. With so much overcrowding and financial problems, it is obvious that non-violent offenders should not be incarcerated but instead they should be offered alternatives to incarceration. This argument will discuss the benefits of offering another option to offenders who have not committed a violent offense. Rehabilitation has been proven to be an effective alternative when offered to non violent offenders who are usually addicts. By incarcerating people who are not a threat to others and have not committed a violent crime we are simply wasting space in prisons that could be better used to house violent offenders such as murderers and rapists. In addition to wasting space, every state that continues to jail non violent offenders is wasting money. They are wasting money not only for salaries of correctional facility employees but also on housing and feeding these inmates. The amount of money it takes to keep a person imprisoned for one year is unbelievable. The average cost to house an inmate in California over one year is $47,102. (Brown, 2009) In Wisconsin that number is $31,806, much closer to the national average. (National institute of corrections, 2008) Think of all the money that could be saved by referring non violent offenders to rehabilitation instead of putting them in jail. Published on the Cycling Weekly website, in an article by Simon Richardson, Armstrong was said to be considered “the best cyclist in the world with some of the greatest career defining moments.” In addition to his debut in the pro ranks and becoming a world champion, Armstrong began his battle against testicular cancer which spread throughout his body quickly after (Richardson). According to the article, Armstrong was declared cancer free the following year and immediately after launched his charity which made this his big comeback (Richardson). As stated on the Cycling Weekly, Armstrong was the most famous American road cyclist who won the Tour de France titles seven time in a row from 1999 to 2005. He made the record of being the youngest cycling champion in the United States, and has also participated in three Olympic Games (Richardson). However, it was quickly outed that he performed unlawful acts to enhance his athleticism. At that time the company was known as The American Gas and Electric Company. AG&E was a collection of small utilities scattered across various states. Many of these utilities were sold and only a few remain part of the company today. The company provided electric, gas, water, steam, transit, or ice services in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio Indiana, and Illinois. In 1911 AG&E got its start with an interconnected power system in Indiana covering 30 miles stretching between two power plants. In 1917 the first super power plant called the Windsor Plant which ran on steam was built at the mouth of a coal mine, eliminating the need to haul coal long distances. From 1922 to 1926 AG&E had one of the greatest expansion periods in history. Electricity was powering the country and AG&E was expanding into more states. In 1923 AG&E constructed three major power plants in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In 1924 and 1925 the company acquired two smaller companies and merged them into its profile.
