...To our beloved principal Madam Lolita M. Arciaga, to the administrative officer Madam Zenaida Batingana and the faculty; my fellow graduates, parents and guardians, honored guests, ladies and gentlemen, good morning. Class 2011 today is a turning point of our lives. We have spent the past four years in searching the halls of this great school, Doña Carmen Denia National High School, and now we are gathered here to be rewarded; to reap the fruits of our labor and to claim the merits for our endeavors. When we first entered the portals of our dear Alma Mater, we were filled with hopes and dreams. We hope to satisfy our parents with good grades. We hope to excel in the class. We struggled to be on top. Thus, we must be proud for ourselves. We should be honored for we surpassed and conquered the challenges in high school. We should be happy because we survived. For four years we learned, laughed, cried, and most of all matured together. However, today doesn’t just about reminiscing the past, it’s about looking forward to the future. Life is a sequence of passageways. We are leaving one and move to the next. When we reach college we will start over another journey. We will meet new people, make new friendship and learn new things. We will grow older, more mature, more responsible and independent. After that, we are left to pass through the unmapped area and that is our future. As I gaze over the many faces I witness today, discernment of individuals are washed away. I...

...Daddy, would you shoot a little kitten?" Grunkle Stan paused, then sighed. "Alright, Mabel. Let's give the thing a chance to tell its story." "Thank you very much." The beast said, as he stopped cowering in fear and bowed to the Pines. "I am indeed Bigfoot. I come here from the forest, after being kicked out of my last home. I was going to stay there a little while longer, but, well...I fell in some mud and just couldn't handle being so dirty out in public! Nice to meet you all." "Uh, yeah, hey." Grunkle Stan said. "Before you get any ideas, I will charge rent, mythological beast or not." "Dad!"...

...Ivy Allshouse To Eat or Not to Eat PSY 240 November 17, 2012 Rebecca Gadza To Eat or Not to Eat Good Afternoon everyone, thank you for joining us today for our discussion on eating disorders. For those of you who have not been here before my name is Ivy, I am the counselor here at Healthy Mind, Healthy Weight Center for Eating Disorders. Today we will be talking about Obesity/Anorexia and the reasons we eat or don’t eat. First I would like to start today’s session off talking about some of the physiological aspects of eating and why we really eat. There are many different theories of what tells us we need to eat. We get the feeling of hunger to signal when we need to eat. As we all know we provide our self with food and that food is converted into energy. Once the food enters our body it starts what is called digestion. Digestion is a gastrointestinal process that breaks down food and absorbs the vitamins, minerals, and fats into the body. Once food is digested it is converted into energy and stored in three forms; fats, proteins, and glycogen. Energy is mostly stored as fat in the body for two reasons, one it holds more energy than glycogen and two glycogen holds more water, which would make the average person over 600 pounds. There are three phases that each person goes to through to metabolize energy (Pinel, 2009). The cephalic phase is the first phase. The cephalic phase begins with the sight, smell, or thought of food. The cephalic stage ends once the food compounds...

...worked here at Turning Point for seven years. I personally do not have any eating-related disorders, but I do have a twin sister who has suffered her entire life with a severe eating disorder which is why I decided to council others who have eating disorders. Please feel free, and do not hesitate to ask any questions that you may have. Today I would like to go over some of the physiological myths regarding hunger and satiety, as well as the physiological factors associated with hunger and satiety being. Satiety is the feeling of no longer being hungry, or what some people might refer to as full. Whether it be for comfort, or pleasure, or just out of habit, we all eat. Some people can eat a meal and think nothing of it. For others, eating could be detrimental to their physical and mental health. Most people do not take time to learn about the food they eat. There have been a number of theories in regards to hunger and eating. One of the theories is known as the set-point assumption theory, which gives the idea that after eating a meal our energy level would gradually decrease until it reached a certain point, alerting us to consume food for more energy, and when our energy level was brought back to the set-point we would be satiated. This may seem correct, however if hunger and eating is regulated by a set-point, there would not be an epidemic of obesity and problems being overweight throughout America. Other theories became developed after the set-point assumption theory...

...ARRIAN EXERCISE ------------------------------------------------- Key: ------------------------------------------------- [E] = quote from Epictetus ------------------------------------------------- [S]= quote from Seneca ------------------------------------------------- [MA] =quote from Marcus Aurelius 1. Introduction –God, Oneself and the Three Topoi Know this, prokoptôn: God is the Soul, Creator and Sustainer of the Cosmos. Indeed one‘s mind (logos) is a fragment of God’s mind (the Divine Logos). One must go whither God wishes, whether or not one wants to. This is the Divine law of nature. However, to willingly go where God wills one is virtuous. A virtuous life is a life that accords with the nature of God and with one’s own nature. A truly happy life is a virtuous life. To live well, in all its myriad forms, and to secure eudaimonia ('happiness' or 'a flourishing life') is to be virtuous. Only through mastering one’s opinions, judgements, intentions and desires, can one be fully virtuous. The Three Topoi are three areas of study that help one in training to become good and noble, befitting all human beings, namely: “That concerning desires and aversions, so that he may never fail to get what he desires nor fall into what he would avoid (this corresponds with Stoic physics).” [E] “That concerning the impulse to act and not to act, and, in general, appropriate behaviour; so that he may act in an orderly manner and after due consideration, and not carelessly...

...Generated by ABC Amber LIT Convertera http://www.processtext.com/abclit.html Killing Dance(v2.1) Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter Book 6 Laurell K. Hamilton, 1997 Anita Blake, vampire hunter, is now herself a hunted woman. Who put the $500,000 price on her head--a man or a monster? It's not just her own skin she needs to save; the rivalry between her werewolf boyfriend, Richard, and Marcus, the other alpha werewolf in his pack, has come to full boil. And there's always Jean-Claude, the vampire who's been waiting for just the right moment to slip inside Anita's head and heart. 1 The most beautiful corpse I'd ever seen was sitting behind my desk. Jean-Claude's white shirt gleamed in the light from the desk lamp. A froth of lace spilled down the front, peeking from inside his black velvet jacket. I stood behind him, my back to the wall, arms crossed over my stomach, which put my right hand comfortably close to the Browning Hi-Power in its shoulder holster. I wasn't about to draw on Jean-Claude. It was the other vampire I was worried about. The desk lamp was the only light in the room. The vampire had requested the overheads be turned out. His name was Sabin, and he stood against the far wall, huddling in the dark. He was covered head to foot in a black, hooded cape. He looked like something out of an old Vincent Price movie. I'd never seen a real vampire dress like that. The last member of our happy little group was Dominic Dumare. He sat in one of the client chairs. He was...
