In the story of the Akedah, we observe the faith of Abraham in numerous ways. First, when God proclaims to Abraham in Genesis 22:1, he responds with, “Here I am.” This illustrates that Abraham was attentive and always ready to serve God. Next, when God instructs Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, Abraham does not protest, instead he obeys God’s command. In addition, he has immense faith to do this because God promised him a great nation extending from Isaac. If he sacrificed Isaac, he would not have a great nation. Yet, Abraham conformed to the Lord’s command. Then, when Abraham reached Mount Moriah in Genesis 22:5, he announced his servants to stay at the bottom of the mountain. This exhibits that Abraham had great faith because he said that they both would return. Even though Abraham did not perceive how they would both return, he believed that God would figure out a way. Somehow, he assumed that God would raise Isaac from the dead even though it seemed nebulous to him. In Genesis 22:7-8, when Isaac inquired Abraham where the sacrifice was, Abraham responded that God would provide. Furthermore, Abraham has faith that God will provide the sacrifice despite the fact that Isaac is still the sacrifice. Later, in Genesis 22:9, even though there appears to be no sacrifice, Abraham continues with his sacrifice of Isaac. Thus, he erected an altar and bound Isaac to it. Afterwards, in Genesis 22:10, Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac and himself with a knife when an angel of God spoke to him. Once again, he said, “Here I am.” in Genesis 22:11. This identifies Abraham's extreme faith and fear of God. Due to his exhibition of faith and fear in God, God granted him with a ram to sacrifice in Genesis 22:13.
