Re:Topic 2: Discussion Question 2

The American Nurses Association defines Nursing as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, community and populations.” (ANA website). The four metaparadigm theories are the essential part in nursing profession which include: The Person, Health, Environment, and Nursing. This put together made what nursing is today. The nurse view the person as an individual not as a sick person by showing love, acceptance, and seeing the individual as a child of God. We must respect the individual opinions concerning his/her health issues and be not judgmental about the person. We must have considered the person, families, group, communities and population during a course of treatment. There has been a time when I am taking care of a patient at home during a visit, I find myself providing care to the family too either she is depressed about the condition of mother or her sister. To me every person has a values that need to be respected. Many people considered Health to be as healthy, strong, well and free from diseases. To me I don’t agree. Health is like a tree with so many branches that needs to be nurtured. It tells us about the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and social dimensions of an individual. Through evidence base practice nurses are able to promote, provide scientific rational for nursing interventions to reach patient goals. Helping our patient feel safe in The Environment can truly make a positive impact. As a nurse, we ensure the safety of our patient by assessing his/her environment through the collection of subjective and objective date, performing risk assessment and identifying safety hazards. Nursing to me is

Joan Didion's The Santa Ana Winds

...The climate in California becomes uneasy during a Santa Ana period. The Santa Ana winds can either bring joy or create great terror. The Santa Ana winds have different effects on the residents of California. The catch is whether the residents of California see it in a positive or negative way. Didion’s text takes a negative turn into her perspective of The Santa Ana Winds. While Thomas’ text takes a positive turn on his views of The Santa Ana Winds. With different perspectives the texts dirverge. Although, the texts diverge they also intersect on the reality of The Santa Ana effects. Joan Didion’s message is to warn the public of the dangers, effects and the overall results of The Santa Ana winds. “In fact the climate is characterized by infrequent but violent extremes”(Didion,5). Didion is stating a fact on California’s climate, it is not always bad but when the climate does get risky, dangerous and violent circumstances are presented. Didion emphasizes on all the negative effects of the winds with her diction. Didion says, “The winds shows us how close to the edge we are”(Didion,6). This states how the negative effects of the period shows the residents of California the risks they are encountering. It conveys the uneasiness the winds brings to the city of Los Angeles, and also the chaos and thoughts that hover over the city’s residents. Didion gives shape to her respective message by means of particular moves by introducting a counter claim...

Santa Ana Winds Comparison Rhetorical Analysis

...The Santa Ana Winds “ The Santa Ana” by Joan Didion and “Brush Fire” by Linda Thomas offer complete separate views to a similar topic, the winds of Southern California. In a first person narration the authors write of the wind from her own experience of living in California and from her own perspective, shedding light on two very different aspects of the Santa Ana winds. Physically, both pieces of literature are different. Each story reflects its own writer as “The Santa Ana” has lengthy paragraphs, chock full of information. Didion is an American Author known for her literary journalism and use of logos. At a glance of the piece, it lists of reasonings and details is clearly visible. Each paragraph is filled with descriptions and examples of the author’s point. Didion cites others like Raymond Chandler and uses lots of facts to prove her point of the winds destructive nature. “Brush Fire” has noticeably shorter paragraphs and uses much more imaginative diction like in paragraph four where she describes the wind’s journey as “....arrives in the foothills of southern California in hot, bone-dry, ten to forty mile-per-hour gusts that lower the relative humidity to three percent” in comparison to Didion’s description in paragraph three, “warmed as it comes down the mountain and appears finally as a hot dry wind”. Thomas is a well-versed poet, known to have published in the American Poetry Review. She offers her own opinion and recalls many memories with the winds in short anecdotes...

Anorexia in America

...Unlike Any Other Disease: Anorexia “I really gotta start losing weight before spring break,” a 15 year old from Long Island wrote in her blog on Xanga.com, a social networking site. “Basically today I went 24 hours without food and then I ate green beans and a little baked ziti. Frankly I’m proud of myself, not to mention the 100 sit-ups on the yoga ball and the 100 I’ll do before sleep. Yay for me.” (Williams 2). Anorexia nervosa is an illness that usually occurs in teenage girls, but it can also happen to teenaged boys and adult men and women. People with anorexia nervosa are obsessed with the thought of being and remaining thin. They lose a lot of weight and are terrified of gaining it back. Anorexia nervosa isn’t just a problem with food or weight; it’s an attempt to deal with emotional problems (Siegel 1). To completely understand and comprehend this horrific disease, you must consider the media that includes pro-anorexia websites that include negative support for suffering anorexics, celebrities in Hollywood, and teenager’s peers. Background information and the effects are also vital to the cause of this disease. If we look into any teenager’s experiences throughout middle school and right through high school there are all sorts of negative pressures: to drink, smoke, use drugs. But one of the least visible one of them is all is unforgiving demands to be thin and appear as the famous stars to in Hollywood. Teenager’s peers may put pressure on the so called ‘friends’...

Impact of Ana

...The American Nurses Association (ANA) has made a vast impact on nursing education, practice, and health policies. It is our responsibility as nurses to keep updating our knowledge of new trends in these areas. Education plays a major role assisting nurses to acquire that information. The ANA offers many avenues for nurses to continue their education, including a journal published with CE (Continuing Education) opportunities, scheduled conferences, as well as a web catalog devoted to continuing education. The ANA believes that education is a career long process and we should keep up to date in order to consistently provide quality patient care. Nursing practice is another major focus for the ANA. The association plays a huge role in insuring that nurses have current information to provide patients with excellent care. The ANA maintains many professional standards that all registered nurses should understand and uphold. These standards have been published as a Code of Ethics and numerous resources have been made available to indicate what nursing practice is and how to maintain the standards. Health care policies have undergone numerous changes over the years and the ANA has been responsible for many of these changes. Nurses are urged to speak up and be a voice for legislation concerning governmental policies and laws which affect patient care. After all we are on the front lines of healthcare, so to speak, and have knowledge and personal opinion of what is best for...

Ana of Ava

...In this book “Ann of Ava” is a journey of a girl becoming a woman. The story is about the life of an ambitious, hardworking missionary who has to deal with struggles, changes, and many lessons. Ann took risks for God, and in doing so she learned various things behind for her own good. Nancy (Ann) has brown, curly hair and brown eyes. She is beautiful, selfless and kind. Much like her determined husband, Adoniram, she is a devoted Christian. The thing that stood out the most about Ann is that despite how beautiful she is on the outside, she cares more about what kind of person she is on the inside. Instead of easily becoming self-centred she only focused on other people and their needs. Ann and her husband have such good motives. It seems as though Nancy changed so much and so little at the same time. She took the step to become a Christian, and an even bigger step to be the first foreign woman missionary. Through every change and struggle Nancy matured. Even when everything changed, she remained true to herself and to God. Ann of Ava made a point of faith and trust. Even though we will all be let down or disappointed, faith is what makes life worth living. Sometimes we will have to trust people even if we don’t want to. We must always trust god and desire to lean on him only. Ann truly became herself in her hometown of Massachusetts where she gave her life to God. Then she shared her life with Adoniram. Although that’s where she got her start Burma is the place where she...

Industry Ana

...CA 1: Strategic Industry Analysis Need/Opportunity Analysis Professor David J. Rosner Joyce Paul Summer 2015 – GMT 615 PCA Apparel retail, or clothing sales, is a large sector, generating 304,906 million dollars in revenue in 2009, with a compounded annual growth rate of 3.2 percent from 2005 to 2009.  Sales of women’s clothing are the most profitable area in this sector - accounting for 53 percent of the total revenue.  The retail industry is moderately concentrated and bigger stores have advantages of getting better deals from suppliers, but the individualized nature in which stores compete not simply on price but on type and style, of which there are many, leaves room for smaller stores to succeed as well.  In addition, because of the nature of clothing, many stores exist marketing to specific demographics based on price and style.  Trends are also particularly important here - being behind on what's hot can lead to losing sales, reputation, and leftover inventory. Market and Trends vary when it comes to the fashion world, there could be a dry season or there can be a high season. What people fail to release is that you must know yourself and be within to understand what it is you enjoy and like. There are two different type of people in the fashion business, the ones who have to keep up with the latest trends and get everything that is popular at the time or you have the ones that just goes with the flow and dress however they want and dress to fit their personality...

...Article Presentation Paper : Money Mutual Payday Loans HRM587 Managing Organizational Change Keller Graduate School Management, DeVry College of New York Professor Shashon Miles Introduction The main issue that necessitated the need for the article to be written was the lack of marketing ethics by Money Mutual. Money Mutual failed to provide proper information to its customers and went a step further to hide behind Montel Williams who was their celebrity endorser. They used the goodwill gathered by Williams over the years to convince the individuals that their payday loans were legitimate. It is important to note that Money Mutual were not the actual lenders, they just connected the lenders to customers who they captured from their lead capture pages. Payday loans can be beneficial to its consumers because it affords them access to emergency loans that they may not be able to obtain from the mainstream lending institutions. Unfortunately, the companies that offer payday loans exponentially overcharge their clients with total disregard to state laws. This is categorized as unethical practice and should be shunned by the government and other lending institutions. Selling Source does business as Money Mutual an online marketplace that matches interested consumers to potential lenders in the specialty consumer finance industry. Ana Nursing Definition

...The definition of Nursing per the ANA is Nursing is the protection, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of the illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of the human response, and the advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities and populations. The metaparadigm of nursing addresses nursing in four basic terms person, environment, health and nursing practice. The ANA definition is more specific to where we are today and touches on all four components of the metaparadigm which are the basics of nursing. We must treat the whole person, which includes the family, the psychosocial aspects of individuals and community, ie populations. In nursing providing advocacy in the care for individuals it is started by continuing to bring education of the patient and community to the forefront to continue our promotion of health and prevention. We are doing this at every level of care starting with our pregnant moms and the great care and prevention our society encourages as well as to the infants care with our immunizations and well baby check ups to the teen ager where we offer sex educations, sports education on concussions and offer healthy choices in the school cafeterias. We have improved our care with pregnant moms through teenage years as stated in the ANA definition of nursing and relates back to the basics in the Metaparadigm. It is noted that Nursing plays such a key role in caring for our patients from...
