In the novel Tangerine, the antagonist Erik in my opinion is a psycho. Firstly, Erik has had a horrific behavior ever since his elementary years. As a kid, along with partner on crime Vincent Castor sprayed spray paint in Paul’s eyes for ratting out Vince. Ever since, Paul’s vision is terrible and he has an IEP for it.

Now, Erik’s attitude hasn’t gotten any better. He’s teamed up with fellow psycho Artur Bauer. Together they planned the killing of classmate Luis Cruz and have both done jail time for it. Next, I believe he is a psycho because he’s hedonistic. On page 52, Paul says “There are two people who would benefit from Mike Costello’s death. And they were celebrating it.” Clearly these two people were Erik and Arthur. I believe

Tangerine Paul Character Analysis

...Paul's Mother made many choices that affected the development of Paul throughout “Tangerine”. One of the most memorable was after Paul's mother had brought up his I.E.P for his sight. This then prompted Paul to say when his mother asked if she needs to come into his new school “No forms, no mother's.”(pg 97) This I believe is a step forward in Paul's independence where instead relying on his mom he now if pushing her away which is a very common trait of many teenagers as he goes into the so called “rebellious phase” of his life becoming and wanting to become more independent. Another excellent example of Paul becoming more independent is him being more firm and making it harder to sway his opinion when him and his mother are speaking of potential schools he could attend for the soccer season Paul had his mind set on Tangerine Middle School and when his mom begins to try and sways him to go to other schools in the area he internally says “Mom was selling but I wasn't buying.”(pg 89) Clueing that he was not up to debate where he would go....

Tangerine Flashback Analysis

...in the novel, Tangerine by Edward Bloor. Paul Fisher, the protagonist, frequently sets the scene as a memory he has from when he was younger, or a flashback. One thing I’ve noticed as a reader is that many of these moments justify or even foreshadow events in the book or Paul’s feelings. From a young age, Paul had not been a huge fan of his older brother, Erik. Always teasing and tormenting him, Erik was constantly the star and center of attention in the Fisher family. He was athletic (a football star) and pretty well- rounded in his parents eyes, but not Paul’s. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher’s opposing point of view to Paul’s on their eldest son left Paul wanting attention. Erik, gave him that attention, that negative...

Edward Bloor's The Erik Fisher Football Dream

...Imagine being Paul. Being put through the pain and embarrassment of having the name “Erik’s little brother” stamped on his forehead. Erik is always a bump in the road for Paul either the “Erik Fisher Football Dream” to murder. The antagonist has done a list of things such as, stolen valuables, fought people, and way more. However, one thing that greatly affected Paul was “Erik Fisher Football Dream.” Paul has only been the sibling no one recognized, just stand in the corner and sits there. Erik always stands in the spotlight. It is not Paul’s fault that his father continously practices and works with Erik. For example Edward Bloor writes, “What if Erik was the body at the undertaker's now? How would I feel about that? I would feel relieved....
