...into my personal life. The problem I am having is ending an unhappy relationship. I do not discriminate when it comes to dating a guy. He can be purple with eight toes on one foot. I will openly give everyone a chance if I am emotionally attached to that person. I feel that attraction is emotional regardless of what is physically, mentally, emotionally etc. wrong with the person. Everyone deserves a chance. The difference in deciding in what is the problem and what is the issue is time. An issue does not take as long a time to have a solution to as the problem. The issue was deciding if I was going to let that relationship go and I did. The problem lies in deciding whether to stay in contact or just cut all ends and burn all bridges. I know the phrase, “Never burn your bridges, you never know when you will have to cross them again.” is true in so many ways. I chose that to be the problem because it is just not that simple to cut off all ties with someone you truly care about. “Expressing Issues” and “Expressing Problems” sections of Ch. 7 of The Art of Thinking” states on pg. 126 that the most effective way to express a problem is to ask the question “How can”. If you can begin a question with how can and have an answer to it at the end then you are on the way to solving your problem effectively. Page 127 says to ask the questions “Does?”, “Should?” and “Is?” There are other ways that can be answered effectively to get the answers to problems and issues but these are the...

...to" and whether the way you manage things effectively accomplish the targets of the tasks at hand. And thus helping, at the end of the day, to achieve the overall objectives of your organization. It is very difficult to give a precise definition of the term 'management'. Different scholars from different disciplines view and interpret management from their own angles. The economists consider management as a resource like land, labour, capital and organisation. The bureaucrats look upon it as a system of authority to achieve business goals. The sociologists consider managers as a part of the class elite in the society. Mary Parker Follett Management is also defined as "to get things done through others." She defined management as "the art of getting things done through people." This is a fine definition if there are "others" to help. You are more in the position of being "in charge", "handling" the task at hand, and "directing" yourself in the process. You "managed" to accomplish the task not "through others". So the definition of management in this context is that you got things done all by yourself, using your skills, knowledge and effort. Other definitions are "administration" and "the process of managing." This appears to fit more the previous way of managing people which is more administrative than strategic. Management guru Peter Drucker (1909-2005) stated that the basic task of a management is marketing and innovation....

...Artists attempt to create great art everyday. However, this is not always accomplished. Some artists experience difficulty deciding what to create. Sometimes art cannot be created just from a thought, it needs to be from a feeling and understanding . After reading Letters to a Young Artist by Anna Deavere Smith I learned that great art can be tricky to create, but empathy and knowledge can make it easier. People might argue that empathy and knowledge are not needed because they may feel that creativity is enough. However, both knowledge and empathy have the power to create art with special meaning. This is known because Smith explains it in Letters to a Young Artist when she wrote, “Well, I believe that fundamental to becoming an artist is...

...Liberal Arts Education Imagine the CEO of an accounting firm deciding between two people for an important new job position. His choices are between someone who went to a school specifically directed toward a business or accounting major, and someone who went to a liberal arts college directed towards a certain major, as well as general education classes. He will most likely choose the latter, because of the person’s ability to excel in business and accounting, but also to be proficient in other social and non-business related skills. The combination of receiving a good liberal arts education, attending Aquinas College, and then applying both to my life will assist me in creating a successful future with a professional career. According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, liberal arts is defined as “college or university studies (as language, philosophy, literature, abstract science) intended to provide chiefly general knowledge and to develop general intellectual capacities (as reason and judgement) as opposed to professional or vocational skills” (Merriam-Webster). Students who receive a liberal arts education become knowledgable and skilled in many areas of study, rather than one specific topic. They become prepared to deal with complexity, diversity, and change. A liberal arts education does not necessarily include professional, vocational, or technical curriculum; rather, provides students with a broad knowledge of the world, as well as an in-depth study of one area...

...downloaded films most often, while only 1 person watchs them mostly at the cinema. Nobody chose the option of DVD, Bluray or TV. It raises the question of the discrepancy between selecting a film, which is the primary concern of this survey and the aim of film marketing itself, and actually vieweing it in the cinema, which is the main way of earning the profit. According to 10 respondents, the deciding factor of selecting a film is strong, interesting idea, which in film vocabulary means high concept, as opposed to popular actors or director chosen by only 1 person. However, in the question about most expecting film of 2012 the majority opted for The Dark Knight Rises with stating the reason of its director Christopher Nolan and his genius. The film does not posses outstanding ,,what if" idea, it is only the continuation of batman´s story, and in this case a popular filmmaker and his qualities is what brings audience to the cinema. It possibly means people only think they choose a film because of its concept, and the true reason is the celebrities. However, the question about deciding factor asked about a case of not knowing the film before and The Dark Knight Rises already initialized its promotion campaign, but still, the importance of Christopher Nolan´s personality in the answers is notable. The assumption can be proved by the fact that the second most expected film was Prometheus from famous Ridley Scott and at the survey also appeared Dark Shadows from Tim Burton. As expected...

...Researching art for this SLP was no easy feat. In terms of Baroque art, of which I know I have mentioned in the past was my preferred period, there were so many pieces that caught my eye. Many of those I reviewed had an impact on me, either minimally or profound. Either was, deciding on a piece to write about didn’t not come easy. However, in narrowing down my choices, I chose a piece called “Calvary” by Abraham Janssens van Nuyssen. This piece has significant importance to me and my formative years. Abraham Janssens van Nuyssen was a Flemish Baroque painter, who was born around 1573 in Antwerp, and was known, for his time, to be “the dean of the master painters”. Early life reports noted that he was a student of Jan Snellinck. His stylistic development signifies that he could have possibly visited Rome during the years 1598 through 1601, as it’s apparent in his works that he was clearly influenced by the vigorous modeling and dramatic lighting of Caravaggio, and possibly the Roman Baroque school. There are also hints,in his style, that he was largely influenced by such artists as Carracci and Domenichino. They were classics of the Bolognese school. Over time and through experience, his technique and compositions became looser and even more animated. He could have possibly fell under the spell of Ruben, as did most artists in Flanders during these later years. Janssens died in Antwerp, his birth city on January 25, 1632. Janssens work, “Calvary” has significant value...

Levitin takes into account works of famous music composers that created a particular art and the variety of its genres and styles. In fact, it is important to analyze the tune, melody, emotions, and content of every music piece to understand what it is. Moreover, quite significant aspect is a mental sense of the song and what feelings it causes. As a result, all these factors are important to consider while deciding what directly music phenomenon...

...Good Art Even though it might not seem like it, art is a very broad topic. When talking about art there are different categories. There is the art of literature, the art of music, the art of dance, the art of theater, and the art that we are most familiar with, such as drawings, paintings, and sculptures. If a person’s writing is good enough, then their work is published in a newspaper, as a book, or in a magazine. If a person makes good music then they can join an orchestra, join a band, or make records. When a person is good in theater then they are able to direct shows or movies, or act on Broadway or in Hollywood movies. A person who can create good art, if good enough, can be shown in a gallery, art show, or museum. The complicated question always comes up of how do you know the work of art is good? To decide whether a work of art is good we can ask a few questions such as, is the art popular in society, does it have emotional power, or has it passed the test of time? Even when asking these questions, deciding whether a work of art is good or not is still an opinion and opinions can always change. After time passes by it is much easier to decide if a work of art is good. Does the work of art stand the test of time? Artist such as Mozart and Van Gogh did not get their fame until after their death. Even now years after they are gone their works of art are still alive and admired by people. The paintings of Van Gogh and the music of Mozart did not change once they died. ...

...The Art Of Public Speaking Jemaire D. Steward New York University The Art Of Public Speaking The person who understand the importance of getting their message across in a clear, confident, and persuasive manner and are looking for ways to elevate their delivery from 'good' to 'great'. Successful Public Speaking offers specific, easy to practice strategies and tools to help you: structure your material for the best impact; cope with nervousness; maximize the effect of your presentation by using compelling visual aids; and connect with audiences of varied sizes. It also offers sound advice on how to avoid common public speaking mistakes, that even experienced speakers sometimes make, and tips on how to master the art of storytelling. The three main types of speeches are the informative, the persuasive, and the special occasion. Before deciding which best suits their purposes, however, speakers should first establish their objective in delivering the speech. Once speakers have the objective clearly established, they are then equipped to make the most suitable choice regarding what type of speech to deliver; however, before making this decision, they must have a clear understanding of the three main types of speeches. As the word “informative” implies, an informative speech “informs” those in attendance by providing them with information. Therefore, the speaker is a teacher, and his or her purpose is to educate the audience regarding a topic; and that topic may be an object...

...responsibility to work well and try to get these jobs done. I felt I worked well in the team because; I helped in little jobs when the instalment of the show was being done, such as sweeping the floor and cleaning, and also contributed in group meetings. I was always willing to help my teammates. Our team had a chart and checklist on what materials we needed and what we needed to do to prepare for the upcoming of the show. Working as a group in this team has helped me to prepare for the upcoming degree show in the third year and made me aware. Selecting, Proposing and presenting your own work I think the Installation and curation team had the biggest responsibility in deciding which artwork goes where, The presentation of the gallery had to look professional. We were there through the selection process and deciding which artwork should be in a particular place, it was up to us to get it right. I thought my proposal presentation went well because the plan was organized. I had difficulty making my final decision so my teacher gave me some advise on what I could show but it was my final decision at the end. Each time I had to propose an idea I had to make decisions such as the space, hanging and transport. We could change the idea as the weeks went by. I proposed to have three photographs on the show; these photographs were intended to be the landscape of Southampton. I also proposed sticky notes so visitors could write something. When we visited all the venues we had a clearer idea...

...Visual Art Creation and Paper Choua Thao ARTS/230CA November 17, 2014 Milinda Jaffe-Bork Visual Art Creation and Paper I came up with the idea of my art piece “Fall into Autumn” for my Visual Art Creation and Paper from a routine Saturday bike ride at the park with my ten year old daughter. Fall has always been my favorite season of the year. I love seeing the color changing leaves across the bright blue sky and the mixture of bright orange, yellow and brown scattered on the dark pavement. This sparked an idea in my head. I wanted to express the colors of autumn in my painting without having to paint actual leaves. I also wanted to express the random scattering of leaves against the dark wet pavement. I wanted to express fall the way I see fall in my imagination; dark and gloomy yet warm and bright all at the same time. In order to express my vision, I needed to think of what materials I needed to put it all together. I went to a local store and bought a 20 x 24 canvas, some fan brush and the acrylic paint necessary to express the fall colors I see in my imagination. I put a lot of thought into what colors I want to incorporate into my painting to express the dark and gloomy. The color black immediately popped into mind. I started to paint my entire 20 x 24 canvas with a thick layer of black acrylic paint and set it aside for 24 hours to dry. While waiting for the layer of black acrylic paint to dry, I thought about what colors I wanted to use to express warm and...

...only thing remaining would be its ashes, or you could burry the body which is known as inhumation. In ancient western civilizations, deciding wether to burry or burn the body was determined by the tradition and culture of a civilization in a particular period of time. Although the method of commemorating the dead varied throughout different societies, it was clearly an important topic to all ancient Mediterranean societies. Due to its importance, a lot of cultures devoted a great amount of time to create marvelous artefacts that would commemorate the dead. A great example of this was the Roman sarcophagus, which was widely used during the 2 century A.D. This bathtub shaped coffin made of marble usually adorned by intricate detailed high relief sculptures was often seen as an astounding work of art yet it was part of what was really known as a mass market industry that had great economical influence in the Roman Empire. In this paper I will focus on how some funerary art, more specifically the Roman Sarcophagi were a clear example of how a design product that was part of a business ended up rising to the level of art.
