We use the Arts as a means of touching that part of us that we cannot reach with Physical Science, Social Science, or any of the Humanities. The arts allow us to be as specific or as abstract as we please. It helps us become closer to ourselves and to others around us. Though there has been a lot of confusion as to what the true definition of “good art” is, how we show others what is going on in our minds and inner souls cannot be judged, graded, criticized or revised by anyone other than ourselves. The arts play a valued role in creating cultures and developing and documenting civilizations. The arts teach us how to communicate through creative expression. Show us how to understand human experiences, past and present. Prepare us to adapt to and respect the ways others think, work, and express themselves. Music, singing, dancing, poetry, and sketching are just a few of the different forms of art that I use to express myself in a way that I enjoy. Because each art discipline appeals to different senses and expresses itself through different media, each adds a special richness to the learning environment. What Makes Art Art

...Art is any form of self-expression. Art is something that is created that entertains, inspires, educates or makes a person feel something good, bad or unexplainable. Art is whatever the artist does or makes in which they deem to be art whether it is of value or not. There is a wide variety of art, some that people wouldn’t imagine as art, but a true artist sees art in every creation. Art is everywhere and in everything I see. Art is not just a painting, poem, drawing or a ballet. When I think of art I think of something somebody does to release their feelings. Different people express art in various ways. For example, someone who writes a love letter because they are unable to express their feelings through touch or emotion. Is this art? Watching Michael Jordan drive down the court and slam the ball. He was recognized for his unique ways for a reason. So, is this art? Making music, any type of music whether it is appealing to your ears or not. Is this art? All of these things are art to me. Art does not have to be beautiful or make you feel good to be defined as art; it is an expression of emotion. We are all artists in my eyes because we are all able to feel and create. All of life is art to me. When I think about art, its creator and the meaning of the creation I think the content is more important then the context. I don’t necessarily need to understand when and why it was created to form my opinion on whether or not I enjoy it. I like to find my own meaning...

With then use of polka dots and motifs in her paintings to make wonderful works of art. Watercolors are also a bonus when looking at an art display as it can be very vivid and in high school I enjoyed doing thing that's involved the same things that she does. Pastels and Oils were also fun to use and were some personal favorites that make art a fun thing to do that someone who may not be interested in doing will like it. In one of her paintings from her exhibit, Infinite Obsession, she uses a wide variety of colors and polka dots. There are many different things that one could decipher about this painting but it almost looks like it could be a city or galaxy. The colors that stand out the most are green, blue, and red. It features an abundance of varying sights and colors that will wow a person with it being fluid and precise as it doesn't look like someone just threw paint on a board but it looks like someone did the work intentionally with thought and reasoning behind it. What Makes Art Art

...Graves Art Essay 1 6-20-11 What makes Art Art? I believe art can not be defined. According to the Fall 2007 Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Definition of Art, by Thomas Adajan, "the definition of art is controversial... whether art can be defined has also been a matter of controversy." I think artists can take anything and put their twist on it and what they think it is and they can call it Art. Art is all around us in many forms and fashions. Art has evolved in so many different ways and can make people feel so many different feelings. Everywhere we look today we can see some form of Art and if you really take time to enjoy it and get in touch with your feelings everyone could learn to appreciate things a lot more. Art can be a very therapeutic way to deal with emotions people may not be able to express any other way. In the sculpture The Kiss by Auguste Rodin it is a true example of expressing a feeling of love. In the sculpture they look so passionate and in love it just makes you feel good.  I think any work that touches us on an emotional level – brings us joy or anger, tears or laughter – is art. But there is a cultural aspect to it as well, particularly in how we interpret art. Georgia O’Keeffe says, “I found that I could say things with colors and shapes that I couldn’t say in any other way-things I had no words for.” I really think our book Prebles’ Artforms by Patrick Frank says it good when he says, “Not all of us regularly create works of art, but we...

Neoclassical Art Versus Romanticism Art

...was part of the Greek and Roman history. The neoclassical era started as a reaction to the former Rococo period. The Rococo art was whimsical and playful. . The artwork of the neoclassical era was morally uplifting and inspirational. The artwork depicted the seriousness of the time, order, reason, tradition, society, intellect and political events. Neoclassical artists wanted a return to traditionalism and to the perceived purity of the arts of Rome. Neoclassical artists felt this would help the people to return to knowledge and a perfect controlled time. Philosophers of the neoclassical era believed that they would be able to control their destinies by learning from and following the Laws of Nature thus giving the name “The Age of Reason”. “France wished to model the government on the high virtues and moral principles of classical Rome. Therefore, neoclassical artists were commissioned to create paintings and sculptures that depicted inspirational scenes from Roman history. Even architecture and interior design began to reflect the neoclassical period” (Neoclassicism | Art Movement). Neoclassical art emphasized courage, order, solemnity, sacrifice, nationalism, and tradition. Neoclassical art is characterized by classical themes. Sometimes the subject's were placed in archaeological settings with people dressed in classical costumes. Neoclassical art doesn’t contain any emotion and portrayals of heroic actions. The paintings during the neoclassical era were calm and rational...

Visual Arts

...Visual Arts 2 Kashata Warren Arts/230 October24,2011 Regina Sadona Visual Arts 2 “Visual Arts are those creations one can literally look at, such as a drawing or a sculpture.”(Visual Arts.com,) One may think of a design or a collage and call it art. Many people visualize art to be a number of creative things. This is why it is so important. During a certain point and time back in history, a group of artist and fine people decided the need to differentiate science and art. “They begin to split up fine Arts into Visual Arts (painting, sculpture, etc.), Auditory Arts (music, drama, spoken literature) and Performance Arts (which can be either Visual, Auditory or a combination of two-but are performed.” (www.arthistory.com,) Introducing a few different “Visual Arts “ which were mentioned earlier in the essay “paintings, sculptures, etc.”(www.arthistory.com) “John Ahearnand and RigobertoTorres’s sculpture “Pat” (1982). “(Sayne, 2010) is a good example of a visual art sculpture. One example of a visual art painting is “Pablo Picasso’s Seated Batter,1930.”(Sayne,2010) Introducing an example of Auditory Art would be “Neo-Classical 5 “(celestical-voices.blogspot.com/2010/04/neo-classical-2010.htm/). Introducing an example of Performance Arts is “The John Oats Band” (performing arts.utf.edu/events/2011/the john-oats-band/. Arts Integration

...Arts Integration is “an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.” Across the United States there has been an increasing awareness of arts integration in various subject areas such as science, language arts, mathematics, and social studies. When comparing mathematics and art people quite often see them as two completely divided entities. In education, mathematics was a rational, cognitive, “left-brain” activity, while art was viewed as a feeling, emotional, “right-brain” activity. The truth is that math and the arts share some similar qualities that make them...

Arts In Schools

...many students do you know take a class in the arts department? Schools typically have classes set for students who are ingenuine and creative. These subjects can include: studio art, graphic design, drama, and music. Although for most schools it is not a requirement, most students tend to pick a class in the arts department. However, some students think that all students should be required to take a class in the arts. Schools should not require students to take a class in the arts department because one can have difficulties excelling in certain subjects, some students may show interest in the arts and can be a waste of time, and it would add up onto the standard graduation requirements. Core subjects alone can be difficult for many students; therefore, students become stressed and confused. Not everyone has certain talents to excel in these subjects and adding on creative arts to the matter would make a big mess. Students should not be required to take a class in...

Art Patron

...about one’s existence, or helps in tracing back to past events to lead to be. A comparable example would be of an individual trying to trace back to his/her great grandparents generations ago, to their existence today. In the art culture, that exact principle is followed, and is led by patrons who then paved the way to the ever transforming landscape. A patron is a person who supports with money or gifts. Prior to the modern era of artists, a patron is said to be someone who usually entered into a contract with someone for a specific service or product that he/she would like. On the other hand, patronage is associated with the act of giving approval, support or endorsement towards a cause or event. Two patrons that I have identified are Pablo Picaso and Jeff Koons. Pablo Picaso (25 October, 1881 – 8 April, 1973) is recognized as one of the most influential and recognized figures of the 20th century due to his contributions to art. He was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer to name a few. Born in Spain, he studied from his father who was also an artist, professor at the school of fine arts, and curator for the museum in Malaga. Pablo had moved to Paris in 1901, where he practiced new styles and experiment with a variety of art forms. Through this period is where he began his work in surrealism and cubism(objects are analyzed, broken up and reassembled in an abstracted form depicting the subject from various viewpoints) style which he was the founder...

Fine Arts

...Fine arts and music education should continue in public schools. Anyone exposed to the arts and/or music benefits from life-long advantages. Education in these areas is associated with improvement in mathematics, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. These are very important aspects in life, all of them necessary in order to make a mark on society. Studies also show that involvement in the arts increases motivation, boosts confidence, and also improves concentration and teamwork skills. Again, these are very important aspects in life. Students who are exposed to the arts generally perform better on standardized testing than those who do not. This is due to the academic gain in important subjects such as math and reading, which have a tendency to be tested the most heavily. Also, as stated before, students exposed to the arts gain important critical thinking skills, which is included in most standardized testing. Unfortunately, some school districts fail to recognize the importance of education in the arts. Over the past three decades, art education has been gradually slipping. The result? Lower test scores. I’m sure you can see the correlation. On the bright side, a majority of the United States realize the importance of art education. Forty states require art education in order to graduate from high school. Those 80% of high school graduates in our country more than likely have better jobs and better communication skills. Why? Because they participated...

Art Final

...design team, it is now my priority to improve the content of our museum’s website. We decided on an interactive timeline focused on one art medium. It is your responsibility to choose one art form such as a painting or sculpture for the timeline. You must also have a common theme for the artwork you select. If you were to choose sculpture, your theme might be 20th-century sculpture. Whatever your selected focus is, make sure you do not make the timeline too long. Ten works of art should suffice. After selecting the 10 works of art, write a short paragraph to accompany each one. You have approximately 9 weeks for this project before you turn over your selected artworks and content to the design team. Select one art media on which to focus. Examples include: • Painting • Architecture • Performance art • Film • Others Whereas these are broad areas, you must select a single medium, then make your timeline focused on that single medium. Research the Internet or Grove Art Online in the Oxford Art Online database in the University of Phoenix Online library, and find 10 representative examples of your chosen medium that are thematically connected. Examples of thematically linked art media include the following: • Linear perspective in European paintings • Black-and-white film noir • Greek figural sculpture • International video art Organize, in a Microsoft® Word document, the 10 works in chronological order and include a 100-word paragraph for each in short...

Art Museum

...For this project I decided to go to the Museum of Fine Arts here in St. Petersburg Florida, mainly because it is not too far from where I live, and I even brought my older sister and my nephew to tag along. Before hand, I went on their website to figure out admission prices and just general information that I figured I should know, but I also look up pictures of the museum because I was curious to see what it looked like on the outside and what kind of environment it was in. Not only was I curious, but I was also very excited to see all of the art that the museum had to offer. I haven’t had the opportunity to visit many art museums in my eighteen years of life, so it was very interesting to me to see all of the different kinds of art that was...

Defending the Arts

...Defending the Arts Tiffany O’Connell ARTS/100 Defending the Arts Art refers to the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination typically in a visual form such as painting and producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. They are various branches of creative activity, such as painting, music, literature, and dance. The elements of the composition of the art are used to arrange or organize the components in a way that is pleasing to the artist and, hopefully, the viewer. It helps give structure to the layout and the way the subject is presented. It also encourages or leads the viewer's eye to wander around the whole painting, taking in everything and ultimately coming back to rest on the point. These elements are considered to be unit, balance, rhythm, focus, contrast, pattern, color, line among others. Unit refers to when the parts of the composition feel as if they belong together. Balance is the symmetrical arrangement of objects. It creates a sense of calm when symmetrical and a sense of unease and imbalance where it’s not. Rhythm: just like music, a piece of art has rhythm, a piece of art can have a rhythm or underlying beat that leads and paces the eye as you look at it .Repeated color and shapes creates a rhythm in a paint (Rosenberg 2013). Focus refers to emphasis on a particular object. The viewer's eye may want to rest in the most of the things in the painting, otherwise...

Art 125

...The principle idea of this paper is to explore my opinions of Pop Culture and the Arts. Art to me is anything that can be pleasing to the eye and something that I can enjoy in my own way. Culture refers to how I was brought up. As with any expressions art can be a picture, painting, photograph, music, or a sculpture. Anything that one’s mind can create that they appreciate can be considered art. Looking at art one can see it in books, magazines, museums, on walls of buildings, or on someone’s lawn. Art is defined as the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance (Dictionary, 2012). Some of our most revered American’s brought us the visual aspects of different forms of art. Norman Rockwell posted many of the most famous painting by an American in The Saturday Evening Post. One of his most illustrious paintings was “Rosie The Riveter” that spawned a revolution for women in the workplace taking over job’s dominated by men called off to war. There have been many others who have influenced art in America. Grandma Moses, who started painting as a very late stage in her life painted country scene setting and about farm life, Andy Warhol, who is most famous for painting Campbell’s Soup cans (Mofitt, 2007). Frederic Remington for his depictions of the Old American West in the late 19th century, and Georgia O’keefe for her Southwestern United States painting scenes to name a few....

Arts In Schools

...Although the integration of the arts is universally beneficial to all students, there are some convincing arguments to hold back on adding more arts programs into schools. The main argument, and most compelling, is the lack of funding for such programs. In recent years, there has simply been more importance placed upon math and science programs than the arts, with nearly $3 billion cut from arts funding in the last year (Wallace). However, this lack of state and federal funding does not definitively stand in the way of arts integration in schools. For instance, multiple schools can collaborate on the costs of adding arts classes, such as having each school create one extra art class, and allowing students from neighboring schools to attend...
