...Chapter two of Atlantic Canada A History covers the life of Aboriginal people in the Atlantic region from 1500-1860. The aboriginal people needed to be very resourceful, they would use everything they could from the animals that they killed. They used bones, skin, brains and even tendons from moose and other animals to craft tools and make clothing in order to survive. Before the Europeans arrived the Aboriginals relied solely on the environment to survive. Up until the early nineteenth century the Europeans refused to refer to the aboriginal by their preferred name. The would often refer to them as “Indians”, “savages”, “natives” and other terms. Most Europeans did not have a lot of respect for the pre-contact people. The Mi’kmaq people traded...

...Tropical Cyclones in the Atlantic Basin Statistical Analysis of the Number of Hurricanes from 1938-2013 Jeremy Erwin 6-25-2014 Word Count: 470 For this discussion I decided to research tropical cyclones in the Atlantic and determine how many hurricanes have developed from 1938 to 2013. According to the Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) article found here , there have been a total of 222 storms since 1938 that were strong enough to be categorized as hurricanes. From the population of hurricanes I chose a sample of 76 years to study. This does not represent the population of hurricanes that formed on the planet during those 76 years, only those that occurred in the Atlantic Basin. Also, many storms were missed prior to aircraft reconnaissance and satellite imagery. Therefore, the only reliable information of a complete population of hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin, exist from 1966-2013. The number of hurricanes counted is a discrete random variable because each storm is counted only once. There was some limitation with the random variable, but it was due to the inability to collect a complete data set. Table 1: Sorted Summary Statistics Mean-2σ 0.8 Minimum 2.0 Q1 4.0 Mode 4.0 Median 6.0 Mean () 6.1 Q3 8.0 Mean+2σ 11.3 Maximum 15.0 After analyzing the tropical cyclone data I determined the mean, mode, and median in order to identify the various measures of center. As shown in Table 1, the most frequent number of hurricanes...

...uCASE SUMMARY Atlantic Computers A Bundle of Pricing Options 4/4/2011 Atlantic Computers is a leading developer of high-tech servers. It has recently decided to expand its product line downwards in order to take advantage of an emerging market for basic servers. Before it can launch the “Atlantic Bundle”, Atlantic Computers must decide which pricing strategy to implement. Of the four options: Status Quo, Competition Based, Cost-Plus, and Value in Use pricing, I believe the best option is Value-in-Use pricing. ATLANTIC COMPUTER: A BUNDLE OF PRICING OPTIONS Summary of the Situation Analysis Atlantic Computer is a manufacturer of servers and high-tech products. Two market segments exist in the server industry: High performance and Basic Servers. Atlantic Computers has held a 20% share of the High Performance market with their Radia servers being their premier product. However, the market for Basic servers is growing and this has caused Atlantic Computers to develop and introduce a Basic Server called the Tronn and a software tool called the “Performance Enhancing Server Accelerator” (PESA). The Tronn was developed mainly for the emerging US market opportunity for basic servers. The PESA would allow the Tronn to perform up to four times faster than its standard speed and make frequently requested information more accessible. Thus, bundling the Tronn and PESA made more sense. Atlantic is not concerned that the Tronn will be considered a substitute for its High Performance...

...Executive Summary Atlantic Computer is computer hardware manufacturer of servers and other high tech products. Recently, there was the announcement of the development of a new server called the Tronn. This new product was specifically developed to address an emerging market in the US and would be sold with a piece of software called Performance Enhancing Server Accelerator or PESA. This software was designed to accelerate the performance of the aforementioned Tronn server and would allow this one server to replace up to four servers. Prior to the announcement, Atlantic Computer was primarily known for selling high end premium servers. This is a new product for the firm as they look to enter into an existing, emerging market. This creates challenges for the leadership team. Historically, Atlantic Computer had tried to introduce new products into the marketplace but they had not been successful. The problem with Atlantic Computer is determining an appropriate pricing strategy and then communicating such a strategy. Therefore, it is recommended that a value added pricing model should be established. A marketing communication plan should follow this new pricing strategy. Review of the marketplace is necessary so that the product can be placed and priced appropriately so that Atlantic computer can ensure success. The largest competitor was Ontario Computer, a firm which had been the leader in the proposed new target market of the Tronn server. The leadership team...
