Daniel Weintraub explains that parents are in the best position to help fix childhood obesity since they are one of the reasons why it’s happening. I agree with Weintraub about how it’s the parents who need to take responsibility for their children being obese. California called the epidemic of children being obese a state emergency because it’s that important and we need to stop or try to stop what’s happening. Some people are not looking at the one of the biggest causes of childhood obesity. The parents, not anyone else, are the ones who can best fight the epidemic of obese children. No, banning fast food isn’t going to stop childhood obesity, parents need to take responsibility. They teach them their eating and exercising habits. …show more content…
They teach you everything that you are doing now that effects your health. In the article “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home” Weintraub stated,” It is parents - not the government, not the fast-food companies, not the video-game manufacturers - who are responsible for teaching kids healthy eating and exercise habits.” Childhood obesity is an emergency and only parents are in the best position to fix it. They are not wanting to take responsibility for letting their kids eat what they are eating. “ We have laws against parents’ leaving a loaded weapon where their children can find it and use it to hurt themselves or others. But no one seems to want to tell parents that they need to protect their children from unhealthy foods and from sloth.” I believe what Weintraub is trying to say is that if we protect our children from weapons that could harm them, then why don’t we have laws protecting our children from food that will make them obese? Parents don’t realize the harm they are putting their children in. They are one of the reasons that their kid could have heart problems or even die from being overweight. You wouldn’t want that to happen to your child right, you don’t want them to die? If anything you want them to live a long happy life and have children of their own and get married, so why would you allow your child to be in danger and be scared that they could have a heart attack or something all the

Analysis Of The Battle Against Fast Food Begins The Home By Daniel Weintraub

...Do you ever wonder who are the ones responsible for childhood obesity. Well in this assignment I am going to discuss Daniel Weintraub’s argument in the article “The battle against fast food begins the home”. I will also discuss whether I agree or disagree with his analysis. Daniel Weintraub states that the California Center for Public Health Advocacy was blaming the government for this issue. This is where Weintraub’s main argument comes in. Weintraub says “Parents, not the state government, are in the best position to fight the epidemic of overweight children in our schools”. Weintraub thinks that parents are to blame for the issue of overweight children. I agree with Weintraub’s argument because it isn’t up to anybody else...

Technology Link to Obesity

...influenced by many factors and habits; one of the factors often overlooked is technology. To begin with, due to advancement of technology our home and work environment have become so inactive to the point that we don’t move enough to burn calories for the body to burn excess fat. Additionally, technology enables us to gain excess body weight by allowing us to produce vast amount of food at a faster rate, by giving us easy access to a massive amount of entertainment right from the comfort of our sofas. And lastly, technology has contributed to the obesity problem in America by removing most of the manual and physical labors that we used to perform ourselves. We may not all agree on the main cause of obesity; countless hours of television, video games, fast food consumption and reduce physical activities can all be associated to the progression of technology. Technology has helped this world in so many ways that it is impossible to cover it all but when it comes to people being overweight technology create a major problem. Because of technological progression, there has been a revolution in the mass preparation of food that is roughly comparable to the mass production revolution in manufactured goods that happened a century ago. Technological innovations including vacuum packing, improved preservatives, deep freezing, artificial flavors and microwaves have enabled food manufacturers to cook food centrally and ship it to consumers for rapid consumption. It is then evident that technology...

Jollibee

...INTRODUCTION WELCOME TO THIS CASE STUDY PROGRAMME! The Jollibee case study should be appealing to many candidates given the familiar nature of the product. Although very little is known about the brand, given the recent ‘silent’ entry into the Singapore market without much fanfare, we all know should be familiar with how the fast food industry operates. The case certainly has all the “ingredients” of a strategic management case study although at the first reading of the case, with a clear focus on international expansion strategies. The good news is that we are given very clear information regarding the strategic directions of the company. We will discuss this later in another section. The case deals with that aspect of strategic management known as services. It also has information on market analysis, competition and positioning. The problem I feel with the case study is that there are no immediate problems to resolve, in that Jollibee seems to have been performing well and their international expansion strategies seem to be on track to grow the business further. This I feel is the crux of the whole case study. To this end, the Jollibee case study needs to be addressed from only ONE perspective - SUSTAINABILITY in the light of increasing competition and changing market demographics. Areas of focus in the case It is imperative that when we approach this case, we MUST adopt a strategic perspective and NOT be concerned about the operational issues. Fortunately, the case seems to...

Market Analyses

...McDonald’s | March 22 2010 | | Project 2 Market analyses | Brief summary SWOT analysis - The fast-food industry is highly influenced by governmental policies, sales rates are grooving even during the recession. The changing lifestyles of consumers to a healthier and quicker one can be seen as both- a threat and opportunity. As a threat- due to a healthier lifestyle McDonald’s as well as other fast food restaurants can lose many consumers. As an opportunity- as people are getting more and more busy due to their work, they do not have enough time to make meals at home, and they choose to eat at fast food restaurants. McDonald’s have good quality of service and promotions, which is also one of the reasons of successful marketing. The main strength is of course their huge brand they built up. On the other hand the strongest weakness is the perception of the customers that look at McDonald’s as a very unhealthy place to eat. Competitive situation – The competitive situation within the fast food industry is very hard. McDonald’s is the leader in this industry, but still it has to deal with big rivalry. There are many other restaurants and other substitute products that consumers can choose. A big variety of the “other possibilities what and where to eat” makes strong buyers power. While in the global market entry barriers are high (due to high expenses to establish a big company), in a more local market, these barriers are much lower because it does not require big...

Film Production Project

...Karen Conner Professor Pridgeon English 252H Spring 1993 Semester Film Production: Final Project After the astounding success of my last film endeavor [final project for ENG 251H], Townies, my production company, Gateway Productions, has con¬tracted me for a new endeavor, this time for an adaptation of Joseph Conrad's novella Heart of Darkness. The company says that I may have full creative license in this one so, as Orson Welles did in his film Citizen Kane, I intend to oversee all aspects of the process. In selecting my staff, I have decided to keep some of the old faces from the previous film. My friend Julie Weaver will once more be at my side. As you recall, I chose her previously because she is not only a good art director but a talented illustrator as well. Her ability to do on-the-spot sketches of ideas saved me a great amount of time and money on the last project. I have also decided to keep Brightwood as cinematographer and Wise as sound director, again for the same reason for which I chose them last time, because they would make good contributions to the creative aspect of the process, and I felt that these two could best translate my ideas to film. Another old face will be Joyce Nevelson, my editor. I chose her last time because she was well-known in the industry and had won many rewards, proving her talent. Changes I have made will be in the writing, sound, and music departments. I have chosen Paul Gainritch to write my screen¬play. He is...

...customers in for some of the world’s most delicious fresh-roasted coffees. Current chairman, president, and CEO, Howard Schultz, enjoyed his first coffee at Starbucks so much that he joined the company in 1982. He soon envisioned incorporating the Italian Coffeehouse ambiance into the Starbucks experience. After leaving Starbucks for a brief time, Schultz returned and purchased the company in 1987. Bringing his vision to life, Schultz created a cozy atmosphere of social gathering and conversation. Schultz later retired in 2000, but after watching the company suffer financially, he returned in 2008 and restored the company to the industry leader it is today. Starbucks now serves its specialty coffees and food products at 23,187 stores in 64 countries. This analysis offers insight into the fundamentals of the company by providing the necessary information to understand Starbucks’ current financial and strategic position in relation to its competitors as well as key issues requiring attention. Key Problems and Issues  Dissatisfaction among employees regarding current wages, work hours, and dress code  Competition offering lower priced substitute products  Competition offering free Wi-Fi in an attempt to create better social atmosphere  Global competition i.e., Japan’s Mt. Rainier with Starbucks-like logo  Ability to continue evolving strategy to stay ahead of the competition (now introducing alcoholic beverages to evening menu)  Consumers disenfranchised...

A Proposed Re-Start for Italy Without the Euro

...Thesis A Proposed Re-start for Italy Without the Euro Department of Economics April 10, 2014 Preface By adopting the Euro as its official currency, Italy lost the independence to conduct monetary policy and is now facing a stagnant economy. Italy’s main source to reduce their high debt (over 120% of their GDP) is through fiscal policy and Italians have been experiencing steep increases in their taxes ever since the Euro was introduced. The Italian society has been experiencing an increase in unemployment, especially for the youth. It is quite challenging for young Italians to find job. After graduating from a university, the average Italian will most likely end up with a job as a waiter/waitress, electrician, taxi driver, or for the lucky ones, take over the family business. If Italy dropped Euro as its official currency and regain monetary independence, monetary policy could be implemented by the central bank of Italy (Banca D’Italia) in order to stimulate the economy by increasing the supply of Lire in the country to stimulate the economy, decrease unemployment, depreciate the currency to improve exports, increase consumption, and reduce the national debt. Background Italy’s economy is industrially diversified, mostly dominated by private corporations in the north. On the other hand, the so-called Mezzogiorno region (southern region) is mostly agricultural and unfortunately well-fare dependent as the unemployment rate is higher than the north. The Italian...
