Student vs. Teacher: The Battle of Banning Laptops
As a college student, having a laptop is essential to developing good grades in your classes, other than studying. However, students mistreat their privileges of having laptops in class. In both Andrew Goldstein's "Keep Online Poker Out of the Classroom: Why Professors should Ban Laptops" and Elena Choy's "Laptops in the Classroom? No Problem", they both explain how laptops can be a nuisance or an advantage for college students. While they both have proficient arguments, they differ with what they feel is right; as one argument is coming from a college student, the other is coming from a professor in college. Surprisingly, while the battle of the student and teacher began, will be surprise with who wants to ban laptops.
Andrew Goldstein, a student from Tufts University, is one of the students that use his laptop in some of his class. Although he does use his laptop for some of his class, he thinks that using laptops in some lager classes are a burden. Laptops are open as the professor talks, but are the students really paying attention? Some students use their laptops for other purposes, like playing online games or online shopping. Goldstein stated that he see "screens that show students are playing poker or shopping online" Also, while others are doing everything except what they are supposed to be doing, their colleagues are distracted by what they are doing on their laptops, especially with games; Goldstein thought the "tapping noise" of the typing is, also, very distracting. More than ever, students, with their laptops, use stenography, writing extensive notes instead of paying attention to the lecture, and while they overdue their notes, they are not able to answer the questions that the professors ask the students. As Goldstein thinks that professors are tired not getting the attention from their students
