Spending Plan

...All my life I have had a job, whether it was babysitting, working for family, being a receptionist or even bartending. With all those jobs I have always had a constant flow of income yet, I am always low on money! How is this possible, you may wonder? The answer to that question is that I never kept track of the money I was getting versus what I was spending. The idea of a spending plan was equivalent to my dreams of being a pop star…I always thought about it but never considered it a possibility for myself. With a little help, I have come to realize that making a spending plan is not so difficult and it could greatly benefit me. I really hope that I can start saving some of the money I make. This spending plan would ideally enable me to put away some of my earnings for the future. I hope that it will also make me realize which things that I buy are necessary and what is unnecessary. I have a lot of debt and having some money put away would be helpful. Speaking of debt, I am currently a sophomore at Temple University. I do have a part-time job on the weekends at a bar. I usually make about $80 every Thursday. Other than that, I am living off of my loan money that I get at the beginning of every semester. I take a twenty thousand dollar loan out every year. My parents unfortunately cannot help me with tuition but they do try to help me out every now and then. I have three bank accounts within two banks. I have a savings and checking account in Bank of America which I normally...

Incorporation of Community Psychology Principles at Yonsei Le

...2003 by Lee Seung Chan. The program initially received participants in multiples of 10. However, the organization has now blossomed into a popular program attracting an average of 700 to 800 applicants per semester. The current president of the agency is Hee Yeun, a Yonsei University student. She has maintained her position for four and half semesters, which is equivalent to about two and a half years. President Hee Yeun works alongside with two other co-workers. Although the program consists of a small team, there is a lot of responsibility and work that goes along with the success of the agency. Yonsei Language Exchange starts at the beginning of every semester. However, preparation begins weeks in advance. The LE president and her two co-workers begin sending out applications via email to accepted exchange students three weeks before the semester starts in order to have sufficient time for proper matching. After applications are received by the deadline, the process of sorting and matching begins. Applicants are matched according to certain pre-requisites and requirements. When the students have been properly matched, the information is sent out to all applicants. An orientation is hosted by the LE agency during the first week of the semester to inform the agency’s guidelines and...

Graduation Speech

...offer you that you might find useful in the years to come. Though the book of my life isn’t yet finished at 39 years old, I am a few chapters ahead so maybe there are a few lessons I can share.   Right now I’ll bet there are a multitude of emotions running through you - from sheer joy to trepidation, from anxiety to anticipation.  Don’t worry -- that’s normal. And it’s something you’ve faced before.  When you went from kindergarten to elementary school and then from junior high to high school to college… it’s all been a series of NEW BEGINNINGS.  Now, some of you have chosen to continue on with higher education, and others are jumping out into the “real world.”  But YOUR schooling isn’t over.  Treat the workplace as another school and learn all the lessons you can from it. Don’t be afraid to start from the bottom.  Be humble and stay humble.  No job is beneath you if you use it as a lesson.    I may have been very successful in my music career – but when I started a film career, I was just another actor looking for work.  My fame wasn’t a help –in fact, it was a hindrance.  No one in Hollywood encourages musicians to make the transition into acting.  I had to audition just to get an acting coach!  I took acting lessons but I wasn’t offered roles; I went to auditions.  It wasn’t Hollywood calling (it wasn’t even Hoboken!)  It took persistence and patience and years of waiting until I finally won my first movie role.  Truth be told, on the...

...a ride for sure. Meeting new friends, separating myself from people who would take me away from studying. Going to my first UB football game, and taking my first test. My experience at University at Buffalo has been nothing but good to me so far. I am ready for the first semester to end. I have worked really hard from start to finish, it has been really crazy with school work and late nights studying. I am very much ready to sit back and enjoy a few days off to myself. I am very happy it is almost over because although University at Buffalo is a great school, it’s nice to have a break from the books and the stress that comes from it. A lot has went well for me since I been here at University at Buffalo. I made a lot of new friends, and lots of people from different countries. The overall experience has been tremendous. The transition from high school to not just a college, but to a big University has been going well for me. At first I was a bit intimidated from the size of the school. I got lost several times, and lost my car in the parking lots. I would walk up and down the parking lots, and walk past governors all the towards the football stadium, and have no luck. Finally I would come across my car, and from now on I would take a picture of my surroundings so I wouldn’t lose my car for that long because that was very annoying, but funny at the same time. My studying abilities have been really good since I started at University at Buffalo, but has gotten stronger since I...

Personal Responsibility

...me to excel. I think having a set mind on what we won’t to do with ourselves and the decision we make should be taught to us at the beginning. For example, like the Gerber life commercial. It’s selling life insurance, but it is also preparing the babies with responsibility on their future. They might not understand now, but as they get older everything is pretty much set in order for them to get started on the own path to success. Not everyone have the mind set to provide for certain goals or maybe even have goals set so they can be accomplished. “The problem is how to ground objective judgment about character that appreciate that much is under our control, but some is not” (Maury, Sabini, Silver, 1998, p.9). This mean we can judge people for who they are or for whom they have become. Everyone is not capable of being responsible. I have always been on top of my game when it comes to succeeding in life. Having a goal set or at least of list of goals that we want to achieve or maybe something we look forward to having or owning something throughout life is a start to a great success. I’m striving to maintain my own personal goals in life by working, making conscious decisions and doing what’s best for me and my family. Owning my own home, business, and overall having a great perspective on life. Towards the end of my journey I know all of my hard work will pay off for the long run. Brown (2009) stated that “we use the language of personal responsibility in a variety of...

Our principle, Mr. Edwards, was giving some long speech about how we will achieve our goals, I wasn’t really listening. My friend Donna sat a couple rows in front of me, she kept turning around and rolling her eyes, Donna is as bored as I am. I was also nervous, I kept fiddling with my star charm necklace I found when I was a kid. I don’t know why I kept this for so long, I just know it’s like it was mine all along and it needed me as much as I need it. Finally they start calling out the names, I’m on the third row so I have to sit through some boring speeches...

Marilyn's Last Interview

...that is?" And they'll start tailing me. And I don't mind. I realize some people want to see if you're real. The teenagers, the little kids, their faces light up. They say, "Gee," and they can't wait to tell their friends. And old people come up and say, "Wait till I tell my wife." You've changed their whole day. In the morning, the garbage men that go by 57th Street when I come out the door say, "Marilyn, hi! How do you feel this morning?" To me, it's an honor, and I love them for it. The working men, I'll go by and they'll whistle. At first they whistle because they think, oh, it's a girl. She's got blond hair and she's not out of shape, and then they say, "Gosh, it's Marilyn Monroe!" And that has it's, you know, those are times it's nice. People knowing who you are and all of that, and feeling that you've meant something to them. I don't know quite why, but somehow I feel they know that I mean what I do, both when I'm acting on the screen or when if I see them in person and greet them. That I really always do mean hello, and how are you? In their fantasies they feel "Gee, it can happen to me!" But when you're famous you kind of run into human nature in a raw kind of way. It stirs up envy, fame does. People you run into feel that, well, who is she who does she think she is, Marilyn Monroe? They feel fame gives them some kind of privilege to walk up to you and say anything to you, you know, of any kind of nature and it won't hurt your feelings. Like it's happening to your...

Study Habits

...Establishing Good Study HabitsEfficient Use of Time "I'm here to tell you what I think is a key to academic survival and success. The first and most important thing I feel, at least to survival and success in the classroom, is efficient use of your time outside the classroom. Remember, there are 24 hours in a day. Set aside two to three hours each day for studying. This will leave you with five to six hours -- after we subtract time for our classes, meals, and a good night's sleep -- to do those things that we like to do much more than studying. The next thing that I feel contributes to survival and success in the classroom is periodic review of your lecture notes and the appropriate chapters in your textbooks. Periodic review and beginning to study for your exams early will save you time in the long run and it will prevent cramming. That way you can be well rested and more motivated and less anxious on test day. The last thing you can do to help get good grades is take advantage of all the academic resources at your university. It can only help you." | - By Dante Battles | The Power of Cooperation "Education often looks like competition. Black Holes: A Narrative Fiction

...Michonne cradled her daughter against her chest as she looked out of the large windows of the manor that reminded her of her late teenage years. The window was slightly ajar so she could listen to the sounds of the nature that surrounded them. “Is she sleeping?” Michonne turned around to find a bright eyed twelve-year-old boy standing behind her chair. “Yeah,” she said, looking down at the little curly-haired two-year-old in her arms. “It was a long trip. Where’s your brother?” “Downstairs with my Dad.” His face twisted in concentration. “Will we get to meet the queen?” Michonne laughed at the boy’s enthusiasm. “Probably not, but you never know. Life is always full of surprises. Your Dad and I met a lot of cool people and did lots of cool things when we were here in London as teenagers.” “My Dad has been here before?” “Yes,” she answered,...

Time Management

...Todd Pizanowski Dr. Peter Business Management 10-19-13 Time Management What are some effects of time management? Time management is a very important thing that happens in everyone’s lives. Here are the major topics that I am going to talk about in this paper. So do you find yourself daydreaming when you are studying? Time management is a lifesaver for college students. College students often find that time is the hardest goal to conquer. The way a person manages time effects the efficiency of their life. Time management can be a mastery of life. Returning to college after having been out of the school system for a long time can be a quite a challenge. For me it seems like there is too many tasks to complete and seldom enough time. How procrastination can affect time management. The ability to manage time may be the most valuable asset students can have. Do you find yourself daydreaming when you sit down to study? Do you stare into space after reading your textbook, trying to “absorb” the information? Or do you look at pictures of friends or family instead of doing the task in front of you? All of these may eventually lead to wasting time and frustration. Here are a few tips to help you concentrate better: Study in small blocks of time instead of long time periods. Try 60-minute blocks of time and take 10-minute breaks in between. Tell yourself before you begin to study. Each time you find your mind wandering, repeat this phrase. Concentrating is a...
