...Migration Strategies and Solutions Taekwonda Bowman 10/18/2011 SCI/275 Laquoyah McDaniel The atmosphere is full of many pollutants that affect our health. Air pollution has been a problem for a very long time. No one really seems to think that the little things that they do hurt the air that we breathe. We deal with pollutants inside and outside of the home. Some are self-made and others due to nature, or natures creatures. Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere. These dangerous substances can be either in the form of gases or particles. Air pollution can be found both outdoors and indoors. Pollutants can be trapped inside buildings, causing indoor pollution that lasts for a long time (Library.thinkquest.org). The biggest source of air pollution comes from fossil fuels, burning power plants and automobiles. These two contribute to about 90% of the pollution that is in the air. Too many vehicles and factories that run off of fossil fuels omit so much pollution that it create health problems for people, or make existing health problems worse. Even the chemicals that we use to clean our homes or wash our cars release toxins in the air that pollute the atmosphere. Cars give of lots of pollutants due to gas consumption and if the car is not kept up, the engine release old oils or burning wires...

...AIR POLLUTION As the population of the world increases rapidly, the realise of the chemical substances is also increasing. Therefore, people exposed to air pollution. Moreover people has been increasing use of chemical substances such as spray, cleaning supplies, perfume egg so air pollution is becoming a serious problem. According to Evans (2010),the problem is inside our homes and materials used in home many times, we release poisonous gasses to nature for years. Carpets, shower curtains, paints, upholstery, plywood, particle board ,cabinets, computers and synthetic materials all release the poisonous gasses and chemicals. As most homes are good isolated, its letting back those poisonous trapped interior for us to breathe. Moreover air pollution causes many events. One of them is the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is produced when fuels are burned. Plants convert carbon dioxide, but because of human activities, release of carbon dioxide is higher than plants can process. Thus greenhouse effect is made in the world and many forests are damaged by acid rains. This is increased release of carbon dioxide as a result of this temperature is also increasing few degrees and it will affect climate changes and polar ice caps may be malt. These are all causes of air pollution and daily life is affected negatively. Briefly there are three main principle strategies to solve the air pollution problem which can be categorised as energy efficiency, reduce waste and move to non-polluting renewable...

...Concerns and Resources In the simulation for Environmental Pollution, it explains that an Ecosystem refers to a community and its physical environment. Also included is the interaction of the community and organisms of the community. By understanding just what the ecosystem entails, we can better understand what is needed to meet the growing needs of an environment and all that inhabit it, and what to do to sustain the health of all within this city. As the population of an area increases, the need to expand the city’s area, this cuts into the rural areas and will cause environmental problems, such as the loss of wetlands and biological habitats, the increase of air and water pollution. First phase would be to take measures to reduce pollution levels in the environment. In the case of the simulation, it was the city of Keywich. Environmental surveys are established and then reporting measures to reduce pollution and manage energy resources are made. The way to proceed in this matter is to examine the major air pollutants for pollutants and their effects, examine factories for pollution control devices in factories, explore the pollution levels for pollution levels in Keywich. Emission testing for benefits of emission testing as well as the green facts for benefits of planting trees. There is an Effect Prism to use for the cumulative effect of meeting the budget set aside for clean-up and the reduction of pollution. “When reducing black carbon emissions, this benefits both...

...Opposed to Air Pollution Crystal Rowley SCI/275 March 11, 2012 Rosemarie Rowe Opposed to Air Pollution Atmospheric issues have become increasingly worse throughout the years. One issue, such as air pollution, needs to be addressed in a serious and timely manner. All citizens of the world need to take accountability for their contribution to air pollution. It is time to reverse and reduce the amount of pollutants currently being released into the atmosphere. Air pollution is caused from many actions. Such actions include the burning of coal and agricultural or prescribed burning, power plants, cars and planes. Keep in mind these are just a few sources that are contributors to the pollution of the atmosphere. When these sources are being used, they release harmful gasses (e.g. carbon dioxide) into the very air that keeps all living organisms alive. The atmosphere is composed of many gasses naturally. Ozone is one of these gasses and helps protect life from the harmful ultraviolet rays produced by the sun. The “good” ozone is located in the stratosphere. However, there lies a different ozone layer closer to the earth’s surface. This ozone is caused from pollution and is not beneficial to plants or humans. In fact this layer of pollution can actually be seen “hovering” over entire cities. This ozone is considered to be the “bad” ozone. The “hovering” of this pollution is a result of temperature inversion. Temperature inversion is when there is an abnormal...

...covers each stage in manufacturing in front to the last stage of lifecycle and from the product design to recycling activity. Besides that, Green Supply Chain Management can also be applied by other parties, such as government, industry, education and so on. After doing some research, we have found that Srivastara (2007) explained the Green Supply Chain Management actually relates to a wide-range of manufacture from product design to reprocesses or destroy. The principium is more likely to the lifecycle of the manufacturer goods while according to the Sean Gilbert (2001) said, the process of incorporating environmental criteria of concerns into organizational purchasing decision and long-term relationship with suppliers is actually act as a way of greening the supply chain (UK Essays, 2014). Brief Description Of The Term “Green Supply Chain Management” Supply chain management can be defined as the management of the flow of goods. It is also the coordination of a complex network of activities, which involved in delivering finished product from point of origin to point of consumption. Except for this definition with adding the “green” component, it refers to green supply chain management. Green supply chain management has been outlined as integrating environment thinking into supply chain management, including product design, material sourcing and selection, manufacturing processes, delivery of the finished goods to consumers and end-of-life management of the product after its...

If possible, try carpooling to work, business presentations, events, or even to run errands. Think of ways you can reduce the number of trips you make using your car. 5. Reduce emissions from cars by walking or cycling. These are not just great alternatives to driving, they are also great exercise. WAYS ON CONSERVING AND PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT • Recycle as many things as you can. Recycling things is the best way to lessen and avoid global warming and climate change. • Avoid burning garbage to lessen global warming. Learn to sell and recycle things to be practical nowadays. • Refrain from using air conditioner. Instead use electric fans than aircon. Aircondition has chlorofluorocarbon. • Plant vegetable on your own backyard. This will help you to prevent using cars to go to the market. This will also help in lessening air pollution. • Don't throw trashes everywhere. This will help in lessening pollutions in air, water, and land. • Use hair gels than hairsprays or aerosols. Hair sprays or aerosols have CFC or chlorofluorocarbons. • Plant trees. These also help in lessening the air pollutions. This gives us oxygen that we breathe. • Turn off unused electric appliances. These will lessen the energy conserve and avoid global warming. • Avoid using Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Instead use LPG has more chlorofluorocarbon than using charcoal...

...The World Health Organization reports that “indoor air pollution from solid fuel use is responsible for almost 2 million annual deaths and 2.7% of the global burden of disease. This makes this risk factor the second biggest environmental contributor to ill health, behind unsafe water and sanitation. Acute lower respiratory infections, in particular pneumonia, continue to be the biggest killer of young children and cause more than 2 million annual deaths. (World) In many communities like Libby, Montana, woodstove heating is a large contributor to wintertime pollution. Because wood burning typically occurs in residential areas, the intake fraction of pollutants inhaled to pollutants emitted was comparable to that of traffic pollution. To address this, Libby conducted a woodstove exchange program that encouraged residents to replace older stoves with newer, cleaner burning models. In all, 90% of woodstoves were replaced or removed. Concentrations of woodstove pollutants have been reduced by 20% - 64% during the November to February period. Additionally, preliminary analysis across the four winter seasons following the exchange shows decreased reporting of childhood wheeze. (Giles) Numerous interventions have been found that reduce indoor air pollution and the associated health effects. These interventions target the source of the pollution, the living environment and the behavior of the user. For instance, the largest reductions can be realized by transitioning from solid fuels...

...the energy, air pollution comes into play. Pollution has many side effects for many people. As policy makers we need to find a way to reduce the pollution being emitted into the air. One solution could be a Cap and Trade policy. This would mean the government would sell allowances or permits to the plants. This would allow so many units of pollution to be emitted. If the plant had one hundred permits or allowances, the plant could emit one hundred units of pollution. The government puts a cap on the number of allowances or permits sold to all plants. Depending on the cost of the permit, the plants can decide on how many they should try to get. If the permits are sold at $28 each and the cost to a plant to eliminate pollution is $25, buying the permits would not be feasible to buy. If a plants cost of eliminating pollution was $35, it would be feasible for the plant to try and gain a permit at $28 because this would save the plant money. This can help reduce emissions by allowing plants to release a certain amount and having repercussions to the plant if they release more than paid for. Most plants are not going to want to pay more than they have to considering they are in the business to make money not give it away. Another solution to lower pollution would be the Corrective Tax policy. The government would be able to tax and put a price on the right to pollute (Krugman, 2009). The higher the tax and price the plants would have to pay would lower the pollution each plant...

...Global Warming Today, the global warming is an undeniable fact, which proves that our planet and its climate are in a big trouble. Global warming affects all areas of our life including; politics, economics and a social sphere. The study of global warming includes many sciences in order to examine what causes global warming and try to find possible solutions to reduce the impact of our civilization on the planet. An interdisciplinary research in this field is important, because global warming is caused by many factors and has an impact on different spheres of our life. For example, climate science is aimed to investigate the changes caused by global warming. Geology examines the impact of human activities on climate. Economic science helps to understand economic benefits and material losses caused by severe weather conditions taking into account results obtained by climate science and Geology. Economic science inquiries into and develops measures to reduce negative impact of economic activity on climate and global warming. Taking into account the information mentioned above, it is evident that an interdisciplinary research is crucial, because one scientist is unable to solve the problem of global warming without any sort of collaborative effort with other disciplines. Natural disasters such: hurricanes and tornados are the result of global warming. In Recent years, hurricanes have become a great problem for many coastal villages and towns around the world. Scientists say that...

...Air Pollution Air pollution in Egypt is a real, harmful and serious problem. It is caused by a wide variety of things. From these causes is the great amount of smoke that come from chimneys of factories that were built near the cities as it release great amount of harmful, poisonous, black smoke which is quickly spread in the air and change its color into black. Also the black color of car exhaust has a serious, bad effect on human's respiration and which unfortunately we breeze it daily as we walk on the streets. This car exhaust causes many horrible diseases in the human lungs and many other organs in the human body. In addition to all the means of transportation like buses and many others in Egypt that increases the rate of the black smoke in the air. All these effects affect mostly the houses which surround the streets and near chimneys as they can be easily polluted by this smoke. Such effects can easily help to increase the percent of viruses in the air and affect the human's health. Although the filters of the factories chimneys help to reduce the amount of smoke in the air, they are not used in the right way and sometimes they are not used at all. Aside from all of the usual and attempted supposed solutions, some real solutions, if implemented, would actually help reduce the air pollution problem. These solutions fall under the following title: Pollution Reduction Strategies. The set of proposed solutions was contributed by the Environmental Protection Agency in...

...Rain is one of the most essential ingredients for human and animal life. The water provided by rain allows all life on Earth to survive. Although rain is naturally acidic, it is being increasingly acidified by pollution from homes, factories, power stations and cars. The term used to describe this problem is “acid rain”. Acid rain hasn’t just occurred in the last twenty to thirty years. In fact a chemist named Robert Smith found rainfall in Manchester, U.K., to be very acidic. He suggested a link between acid rain and SO2 given off when coal was burnt by local factories. This was over 100 years ago. Acid rain is caused when pollutants from cars, homes, factories and power stations mix with atmospheric moisture. These pollutants may be carried in clouds for long distances before falling, which mean that forests and lakes far away from factories may be damaged by acid rain. Two of the major ingredients of acid rain are the chemicals sulphur dioxide [SO2] and nitrogen oxides [NOx]. When large quantities of these two particular chemicals come in contact with the atmosphere, they team up with moisture [H2O] to produce strong acids called sulphuric and nitric acid. These two acids which are formed in the atmosphere are very strong pollutants. Some air pollution as a matter of fact comes from natural sources, but most is human made. The burning of oil and coal by plants and factories, homes and cars, is the main source of chemicals that cause acid rain. Power stations...

...Social Responsibility JJT Task 1 Sheryl K Ellis My chosen company for my JJT Task is Rhodes Air Conditioning. Rhodes A/C is a small company operated by the owner and two air conditioning technicians. As a small company it is imperative that they fully concentrate on the three P’s which are People, Planet and Profit. Today as we look at the world around us we notice changes. Companies and people are making efforts to sustain the environment by taking small steps to recycle and have even started using fuels that are safer for the environment. Car manufacturers are making cars that run on very minimal amounts of fuel by running electrically. As you pull up to many locations now you will find the electrical plugs to plug in your car for a charge while you are refueling your body. The reading material in Chapter Ten of Business and Society: Stakeholders, Ethics, Public Policy states that human activity affects three major forms of natural resources: water, air, and land. Resources can be renewable or non-renewable states the material with fossil fuels being non-renewable because once they are used they are gone. Some items are renewable such as forests and fresh water because these things can be replenished. With these areas in mind: water, air and land one needs to focus their efforts on the sustainability of the environment. At the rate we are going we could soon be faced with a drastic decrease in the availability of fresh water and eventually food. As the world grows at an astonishing...

...AIR & LAND POLLUTION Amy Hubbard Ashley Hicks 3/21/2014 Every year in the U.S. factories release over 3 million tons of toxic chemicals into the land, air and water. This hazardous waste causes us to lose over 15 million acres of land every year, it leads to respiratory complications and other health problems and it makes our rivers and lakes too polluted for us to swim in and drink. But factories are only part of the problem of pollution. Pollution is caused by industrial and commercial waste, agriculture practices, everyday human activities and most notably, modes of transportation. No matter where you go and what you do, there are remnants of pollution. What is pollution? Pollution is the introduction of a contaminant into the environment. It is created mostly by human actions, but can also be a result of natural disasters. Pollution has a detrimental effect on any living organism in an environment, making it virtually impossible to sustain life Here are a few facts about land pollution: Every year one American produces over 3285 pounds of hazardous waste Land pollution causes us to lose 24 billion tons of top soil every year Americans generate 30 billion foam cups, 220 million tires and 1.8 billion disposable diapers every year We throw away enough trash every day to fill 63,000 garbage trucks Every day Americans throw away 1 million bushels of litter out their car window Over 80% of items in landfills can be recycled, but they’re not How to Prevent...
