The Bureau of Indian Affairs, also known as the BIA, is the department that cares for the Indians and gives them things such as education, health services, and technical assistance. After a while Indians and Americans assumed that the Indians were to just blend into the American society and just disappear. The BIA, however, stopped this from happening. Congress said that the president should “provide services for the Indian people to prevent their extinction”.
