...The relationship of excess body weight and health-related quality of life: evidence from a population study in Taiwan I-C Huang, C Frangakis, and AW Wu Abstract Objective: Excess body weight is related to significant morbidity and mortality. However, less is known about the relationship of body weight to health-related quality of life (HRQOL), especially for Asian populations. We examined the relationship of excess weight and HRQOL in a general population sample from Taiwan. Research methods and procedures: This cross-sectional study used a national representative sample (n=14221) from the 2001 Taiwan National Health Interview Survey. Body weight was categorized using body mass index (BMI in kg/m2) as normal (18.5–24.9), overweight (25–29.9), and obese (>=30). HRQOL was measured using the Taiwan version of the SF-36. We compared the body weight–HRQOL relationships by age, gender, and status of chronic condition, respectively. We especially used the Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) to examine the relationships of BMI and HRQOL by taking into account the correlations of HRQOL within households. Four models were developed to adjust sequentially for sets of covariates: Model 1 with no adjustment; Model 2 adjusting for socio-demographic variables; Model 3 adding chronic conditions; Model 4 further adding smoking status. Results: Unadjusted physical HRQOL was best for normal weight, worse for overweight, and worst for obese individuals. For unadjusted mental HRQOL, overweight...

...used excessive force without body cameras”(Police Officers). Currently, many police officers use excessive force, “after body cameras were implicated there was a 60% drop in the use of excessive force”(White and Coldren). According to an article,” Not wearing body cameras can lead to unnecessary hospitalizations and deaths”(ProCon.org). This issue is critical because police officers will continue to use excessive force, leading to more deaths and hospitalizations. Police officers should be required to wear body cameras to improve accountability, protect officers and citizens, and provide evidence when no physical evidence is available. A primary concern as to why police officers should wear body cameras is to improve officer accountability. According to a podcast, “Police officers were not wearing body cameras at the time they hospitalized the 14-year-old boy”(Police Officers). This evidence is significant because if the officers wore body cameras they may have been found guilty of using excessive force with evidence. Additionally, an article states "Body cameras can help solve...

...Religious philosophy can offer no firm evidence for distinction- Discuss Humans appear to have both a body and a mind, the body which is related to physical movements and appearances. And the mind which relates to feelings and emotions, qualia. Many philosophers therefore make a distinction between the mind and body, the dualist view that a person is made of two separate substances. On the other hand, some philosophers take a monist/ materialist view that the mind and the body are the same substance. This is a contentious area of philosophy, and has created a debate known as “the mind, body problem”. Such philosophers as Plato take a dualist view and try to offer evidence to suggest a distinction between the body and soul. Plato saw the body and soul as two separate entities. The soul that most closely resembles the divine and immortal. While the body resembles the human and mortal, which is endlessly changing and can be broken down. Plato was not trying to suggest the soul was perfect as it joined the body which it is inhibited by, however, he explains that by taking care of the soul the person can develop knowledge. Plato used evidence such as the “world of the forms”. He suggested that by taking care of the soul and ignoring physical pleasures the soul can return to the word of the forms when the body dies. For the body to survive it must meet its basic needs such as food, reproduction and physical pleasure. On the other hand for the mind to be stimulated it has other needs...

...was arrested for the murder of a 10 year old girl whose body he disposed of along a gravel road. State law enforcement officials engaged in a search for the child’s body. During the search, in response to an officer’s appeal for assistance, Williams made statements to the police (without an attorney present) which helped lead them to the body. Williams was only read his Miranda rights after he was arrested. Synopsis of Rule of Law. This case introduces the inevitable discovery doctrine, which postulates that if evidence will be inevitably discovered, the method in which it is obtained is not important. Facts. Defendant, Williams was arrested and read his rights for the murder of a child after he led law enforcement officials to the body of the child by making statements, in passing, to officials who were conducting the search. While the statements Williams made were not allowed as evidence against him at trial, the body of the child, as well as photographic and medical and chemical test information was admitted. At trial of the matter, the court concluded that, even if Williams had not made the statements to police, the body of the child would have been found within a reasonable time, and that evidence could still be used. Issue. Whether evidence, which ultimately results in arrest, should be excluded from trial because it was improperly obtained. Held. Under the inevitable discovery doctrine, because the evidence would have been discovered within a short period of time...

...preserving, reconstructing and presenting evidence. It is their job to examine any physical evidence that could remotely shed any light on what happened and who is responsible. There are no typical crime scenes, evidence or investigative approaches and every crime scene should be approached in a systematic sense. According to Robert R. Ogle Jr., a crime scene search is defined as a systematic, methodical search for any physical evidence at a crime scene. Before the job of CSI can begin, there has to be a crime committed. For instance, CSI are on call for murder scene investigations to collect and examine evidence. When CSI is contacted, their job begins. Evidence is a major part in any investigation. Without evidence, a case can grow cold quick. Anything can be evidence and when in a crime scene, everything should be treated as such. Evidence has many different categories: trace, firearm, impression, drug and alcohol, document, and biological fluids. All of these categories of evidence play an important part in finding out valuable information towards solving a case. The most important aspect of evidence collection and preservation is protecting the crime scene. When first approaching a crime scene, first responders should secure the scene after detaining any suspects and seeking medical for any injured party. (Ogle, Jr.) Police officers are typically the first to arrive at a crime scene and are responsible for securing the scene so no evidence is contaminated or destroyed. After...

...and/or explosives to ensure the safety of the investigating personnel. After the crime scene was secured and personnel can safely process the scene their main concern is to protect evidence from destruction and/or cross – contamination. Finally, if there is a dead body discovered at the crime scene it should be investigated and collected first. Investigation of the dead body could give an approximate scenario of the incident and establish an overall flow of the investigation process. Messiness of the crime scene not just cause difficulties to preserve and collect trace evidence, but it also may pose a danger to the personnel of the investigating team. Explosives, hazardous substances and many other dangerous objects could have been hidden underneath all of that mess. To reduce the investigation team’s risk of getting harmed the scene, first, should be investigated by specially trained personnel. Also, each and every individual entering the crime scene should wear appropriate protective clothing such as overalls, gloves, shoe covers, glasses, masks, and etc. to eliminate skin contact with poisons chemicals or any other dangerous/ hazardous objects/substances present at the crime scene. Also, the photographs of the deceased show some signs of minor decomposition of the face, which means that the body has been lying there for a quite while. It could have caused the excretion of putrid odor, which might obstruct the personnel’s breathing. In this case, the personnel should wear masks...

...pieces have to be found then turned until they fit together making a puzzle a complete picture. Sometimes there are pieces that cannot be found but when enough pieces are put together it is easy to picture in ones brain what that piece of evidence contained. No crime is committed without leaving some kind of evidence behind which is why there are different criminalist trained in how to find and charged with the job of studding and analyzing evidence so that even the cleverest of criminals can be found and prosecuted. There were several things that complicated the case mainly that there was a month between the time the two agents died and when their bodies were found decomposing. This meant that the evidence needed had to begin with the job that the agents were assigned to so that a link could be found from those crimes that tied them in with the death of the agents. Time span proved to be difficult and finding the original crime scene (the area in which the crime was committed before the bodies were relocated to the scene where the bodies were discovered). Because of the time frame other obstacles were faced such as disturbance of the crime scene do to the accessibility to the public along with the obstruction and tampering of the evidence by officials of Mexico. Apparently the house that the torture and murder occurred in, had Mexican Officials living there and it was charged that they...

...should use body cameras. There are about 78,000 calls made in a day to the number “911” as we all know as the police station, which means that 20% to 30% of the population of the United States are in a different type of emergency. There are many different posts in the police station, calling is just the first step to ensure we get the right treatment we should be getting. The next step is to try to resolve the problem without using force. As we know, police officers are up for those jobs and are believed to be at the the for certain things. As we may know police officers are here to help but most of the time they can't help us without taking us to court and telling them what happened, so that is where body cameras come in and help them decide whether he/her should go to prison.
