The boy who dared is an extraordinary display of historical fiction that takes place in the late 40’s, based on real life circumstances a young heroic German boy Helmuth dared to stand up against Hitler’s edicts in World War 2. Many people learn in their very own history class about the Holocaust and the intense mass-murders of Jewish people all over Europe, but how many people know about the non-Jewish who were tortured, imprisoned and put to the death row just for what they believed and didn’t believe in. I would recommend this book to any reader who is searching for a good book to read or if they want to know more about the German Resistance. The book expresses a strong message of not being a bystander and letting evil overrule, but to stand up for those who don’t have a voice even if the consequences are severe. …show more content…
Helmuth always knew the rights and the wrongs, as soon as the Nazi Party started expanding he realized that what Hitler was doing was wrong and he wasn’t comfortable standing behind them. When the 16 year old boy starts listening every night to BBC news on an illegal radio that his brother bought him, he soon realizes that Germany is lying to their very own. Helmuth feels the need to inform all of the Germans about the truth but he later charged with treason and sentenced to death. Susan Campbell Bartoletti does an astonishing job on making the message in her book The Boy Who Dared loud and clear for everyone to understand. Throughout the book she uses words and transitions that can be understood for the reader of ages 12 and up. She reaches beyond the limits and tells a heart-wrenching tale of a historical time for which all should have knowledge

...The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a novel in which the theme of savagery versus civilisation is explored. Some British boys are stranded on an isolated island at the time of an imaginary nuclear war. On the island we see conflict between two main characters, Jack and Ralph, who respectively represent civilisation and savagery.
