1. Why isn’t Jamie allowed unlimited use of aspirin for pain?
Answer: He isn’t allowed unlimited use of aspirin for pain because excessive use could possibly have negative effects on the growing calcaneus; being that this bone is in heavy use when Jamie is doing his daily activities.

2. Why does Jamie’s pain subside after a period of inactivity?
Answer: Jamie’s pain subsides after a period of inactivity because he’s growing calcaneus is at rest and not being overused. Furthermore, Sever’s disease mostly effects children who are active; so being that Jamie was inactive during his rest period, the pain became less intense.

The daily activities of active children apply repetitive force to the bone resulting in microscopic or small injuries. As for sedentary children, they are inactive; therefore, extreme force is not applied to the growing bone or Achilles tendon.

4. Why does Sever disease occur in children rather than adults?
Answer: Sever disease occur in children rather than adults because their bones are still in the growing stage. When the calcaneus is growing, it’s ossification centers are connected by a epiphyseal plate made of cartilage. So until, the bones of children undergo complete ossification and are fully developed, they are prone to Sever’s disease. Whereas, adults have fully developed bones that are no longer growing.

5. Describe the pattern of pain appearance and remission that can be expected if Jamie uses heel pads only intermittently.
Answer: If Jamie wears heel pads intermittently , the heel pads may alleviate the pain reducing the force placed on the calcaneus, and Jamie will be able to do his daily activities; thus, carefully. However, removing the heel pads may cause the pain to resume in the calcaneal
