In the poem The Bridegroom Natasha’s most important trait is her bravery. After experiencing a traumatic event, Natasha is able to not fear the terrible things she has seen. Because Natasha becomes brave, she develops as a person throughout the plot. The trait of bravery develops her into a strong woman. Natasha demonstrates this trait on the evening of her wedding when she confesses to the crime she has witnessed, and helps to stop the bridegroom from murdering future victims. Natasha’s bravery gives her strength within her conversations and interactions among other characters. She is able to stand up to her family’s questioning, and confront her bridegroom of the crimes. Bravery is a very important trait that Natasha has.

For example, when Natasha is interacting with her sisters she does not let the traumatic event interrupt her time with her family. “Natasha’s cheeks regained their rosy color. And cheerfully again she sat with her sisters” (Pushkin 643). Even though she is facing a struggle, Natasha uses her bravery to stay positive and happy with her sisters. “Whatever enables a character to have reasons likewise enables him to act for those reasons” (O’Leary 221). Natasha has reasons to be sad, but she acts positive around her sisters. Her bravery enables her to act differently based on her personal reasoning. Then, at Natasha’s wedding, her bravery gives her strength within her interactions with the people at the wedding. Natasha acts sad because she knows she must be brave and tell what happened. “‘Friends, why is my fair bride sad, why is she not feasting and serving?’” (Pushkin 645). Suddenly, when Natasha confesses, she had great bravery and strength towards the bridegroom. “Such spontaneous actions may be considered decisions in that after their enactment they could be explained by reasons” (O’Leary 219). Natasha’s spontaneous decision to confess suddenly gives her a new strength within her interactions among characters. “He’s bound, judged, put to death. Natasha is famous!” (Pushkin 647). Natasha was brave when testifying to what she had witnessed. She is fearless when interacting with the bridegroom, which takes great bravery.
