The character Erika in Daniel’s Story by Carol Matas is someone you should call a survivor. She is a survivor because she is determined, strong and above all she is brave. These traits helped her survive through all the tough times she went through alone. Unfortunately she dies at the end of this story, but what she lived through and how long she lived was amazing.

One reason Erika is a survivor is because she is strong. An example is when she was in Lodz with her family she was working and the others that worked there hated the food and they got fired. She stood up and spoke in front of her employees and said that they deserve their jobs back. Another example is when her mother died she never gave up she stayed strong.
