...Case Study Questions 1. Name two macro environmental forces affecting the chocolate industry in the early 2000's to 2012 and explain how they are impacting the industry. State which of the five types of forces your answer falls under. See Figure 2.7 in the textbook. Two macro environmental forces affecting the chocolate industry in the early 2000’s to 2012 are economic and social. The social force falls under the social category. Social forces impact the chocolate industry tremendously. In the U.S. more than 80% of all candy is bought on impulse, but 57% of American women and 46% of men stated that chocolate was their favorite snack/dessert. Even though there are recent trends that suggest that consumers decrease their dietary consumption in chocolate, over 70% of consumer still indulged in some form of chocolate at least once a month and 33% said once a week. (Hill, 2015, pp. C-16, C17) People that are eating healthier this is the trend are eating more premium chocolate because it contains dark and organic chocolate as well as special ingredients like spices, berries, nuts and fruits, which is a healthier alternative. OK The economic factors affecting the chocolate industry fall under the economic forces category. The chocolate industry is experiencing a recent spike in the cost of raw materials, packaging, distribution and energy. Production is more expensive for premium chocolates but people are also willing to pay the extra money for the quality. With the price...

...person who is passionate with cooking and wine tasting. After all, I also learn a lot about wine since one of the group members work at a fancy restaurant bar. First of all, we have an appetizer named BLT golden. It is made of fresh cherry tomatoes, crispy bacon, mayo and arugula. It is my first time tasting cherry tomatoes. It has a very unique flavor. Cherry tomatoes are a bit sour with sweet and fresh tasting. The juice was burst out all over the place when I take a first bite of it. The saltiness of the bacon was just right and that balance with the taste of sweet and sour cherry tomatoes. The Riesling was selected to pair the fruity appetizer. This wine is one of the best wines for most ladies. For me, I think the Riesling that we have is a bit sweeter than the normal wines out there which is a good thing. Ladies in our group like it very much since it does not have strong smells and taste of alcohol. The Riesling goes well with the appetizer because it brings out the freshness of the tomatoes and contrasted the crispy bacon. It warms up my stomach and added acidity to my mouth and I am ready for the starter. The starter of the meal is called honey spring citrus salad. The salad is made of honey pecan, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, navel oranges and red wine vinegar. I am responsible for making this salad and it actually works out pretty well. We have made a judgment on the look of the salad that it is so Asian. Well mixed vegetables with red vinegar...

...traditional Japanese Village Life. Depicted in the surreal, natural state of awareness, "Enoshima in the Sagami Province" portrayed village life in Japan before an outside influence cultivated change. A Lovely view of Mt Fuji, softly painted scenery, and dream-like people bring together the essence of village life. Another example of a painting supporting the idea is “Kakitsubata (Iris)” which, explains and narrates, a much similar time in history. A third painting, “True View of the Post Office at Edobashi” enclosed here will bring to light the introduction of westernization into Japanese culture via traditional life. “Industrialization went hand-in-hand with political and cultural Westernization.” (Dower, 1) A fourth painting, “Illustration of Ladies Sewing,” depicts the use of a modern machine. Does Japan seem resilient to change or does it embrace it? Again, two of the paintings suggest heavily that Japanese culture remained similar up to a certain date. The other example is a painting that is opposite of what was previously portrayed. While Japanese Village Life progressed at a normal rate; regardless of western influence, Western culture influenced how Japan went from a traditional way of life to a more modern way of life. Although, Japan kept many of its cultural identity; despite the western influence. ...One day I walked into Walmart to buy some groceries for my mom. To my surprise the whole store was blacked out and none of the lights were on. I saw big blurs bumping into everything in their path. I was so confused. It made me want to scream at my mother for sending me on this trip. I heard one lady screaming and slapping the clothes she had got tangled in. I then heard a big thud a big fat man has fallen in the paint cans on row ten. I wanted to say good bye suckers and shove everyone out of my way. I finally decided to go hunting for all these stupid groceries my mom needed. One shop worker fell over a pair of ugly flip flops laying on the floor. This was terrible I could not remember where anything was or what I was grabbing. That’s when...

...are incredibly simple to make, such as Oreo and Butterfinger, and I feel a warm sense of gratitude. Others are the biggest nuisance ever invented. The Salted Caramel Truffle blizzard sounds innocent enough, but actually it requires bending down into the cold freezer and heaving up the praline pieces and salted caramel truffle candies, while also dashing to the Cocoa Fudge on the other side of the counter. It’s a much more complex mission then simply scooping some Oreo. Other blizzard orders make me question the person’s sanity. One man ordered a pineapple blizzard with malt powder. I do understand all taste buds are different, but this man was an extreme. Also, the lady who ordered a Cherry Cheesecake. The Strawberry CheeseQuake blizzard is a common flavor, so I was caught off guard when the lady uttered cherry instead of the assumed strawberry. However, I always nod and proceed to give them their total without question and any noticeable signs of disgust. To make the blizzard, you must grab the size of the cup the person had ordered, which is a give-in. Then you strut on over to the ice cream machine, where you fill the cup approximately one-third of the way full. Easy enough, right? So far. Depending on their blizzard order, you grab the required additions in the right portions. At the Cold Spring Dairy Queen, there are little cards placed right above all the toppings with instructions of what and how much to add. Three black spoons of Choco Chunks, one-and-a-half pumps...

...There is a tall, rooted cherry blossom tree nearby a beautiful stream of running water in a small remote village in Vietnam. It has been there since 1992. A Vietnamese lady planted the tree dedicating it as a reminiscent to her deceased daughter. This tree she planted developed over the years. It grew more and more each year. It started as a little seed to an eight-foot tree. The branches grew to be so long that it wept to where it barely touched the water. The branches bundled with white cherry blossoms blooming everywhere. The tree beamed brightly no matter if it was day or night. The tree was the most beautiful tree in the entire village for the next 12 years. In 2004, a catastrophe had hit this remote village. A never-ending storm had hit the coast of Vietnam. Rolling sounds of thunder and streams of rain continuously occurred every day. It was soon devoured by the gusting wind blowing away all of the little cherry blossoms. It blew away the life and ambiance the tree once had. Not too long after this storm had chaos broke out in the village where a westernized country tried to take over the village. Battles occurred everywhere in the village with the echo of firearms and weapons reverberating ever minute. Not too soon did battles occur where this tree was. The battle left almost all of the tree’s branches to be broken and discarded. After these incidents the tree no longer intensified and illuminated like how it used to be. The tree had lost its life, intensity, and stability...

...up. In this story, foods play as an important symbol. When Neil and Brenda fall in love with each other, Ruth spends time describing cherries, which not only represents virginity, but also merrymaking and festivity. When their relationship is on the edge, Neil, instead of being obsessed with the taste of Patimkin fruits, finds them tasteless. Throughout the article, the descriptions of the meals and talking at the table during the meal demonstrates that Patimkin and Klugman are two families in different social classes, and the glitch between two classes eventually leads to a broken relationship. Food, as an important symbol, not only directs the relationship between Neil and Brenda, but also reveals the difference between the two social classes as one of the reasons of the ruining of their relationship. Descriptions of cherry in this article help readers understand Neil and Brenda were in a loving relationship, and they were so happy. Cherry, as a symbol, has been widely used in many literature works by many great authors. On one hand, cherry implies Brenda’s virginity. For example, in the article “Figurative Language and Cultural Contexts in the Traditional Ballads”, the authors, Barra, Toelken and D.K. Wilgus state, “is there anything in balladry more delicately fit than the beautiful young Mary asking Joseph for the only possible fruit (cherry) which could testify both to her pregnancy and her virginity” (Toelken and Wulgus). In...

...Infant & Early Childhood Development Helene M. Taulbee PSY/375 February 7, 2013 Janice Munn Infant & Early Childhood Development Family plays one of the most important roles in the development of an individual from birth and continuing through adulthood. The family unit is the core network that interacts with an individual from the time he or she takes their first breath. This network provides the building blocks upon which the infant will develop relationships, and grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. One of the very first developmental markers for an infant is attachment. This is an emotional tie to particular people that usually spans across the individual’s life, regardless of time and space. The infant’s parents or caregivers usually form the first attachment with the baby. This emotional bond plays an important part in how well the individual develops relationships in the future. If it is a strong, warm, nurturing bond, the individual will most likely feel secure within themselves. If it is a bond that causes the individual to feel insecure, there is a good chance the individual will grow up with low self-esteem and a struggling self-confidence (Berger, 2011). Another area of development that is largely impacted by the family is language. Parents, grandparents, and siblings all have a part in the development of a child’s language. The infant hears many words and sounds expressed by family members long before he or she can actually begin...

...The Bystander Effect Kory Gioffredi Social Psychology If somebody had called in sick for work and they had asked you to fill in for them, would you? We as a society get asked this question multiple times throughout our lives, this statement would be known as “the bystander effect”. Fundamentally, the bystander effect is most likely to occur when a group of people witness a situation, where a person is in distress and requires assistance. According to the theoretical model of diffusion of responsibility, people are less likely to intervene and come to the assistance of someone because they feel less responsible (Garcia, Weaver, Darley, & Moskowitz, 2002). If you witnessed an accident that happened right in front of you, would you drop the something that you are doing to go help? Some people would say yes, and some would say no. There is no right or wrong answer to this, but people think that “yes”, you should drop whatever it is that you are doing and go and help that person or persons that are in trouble. This is the “Bystander Effect”. Psychologists have done studies showing that you as a person, whether or not you should interfere would be determined by on the number of bystanders that were present of the incident. When an emergency situation transpires, witnesses are more than likely going to react a little differently whereas just in an “accident”. The difference between and accident and an emergency is pretty simple and basic, emergency is when somebody would be...

...The bamboo creates a simply display that in turn adds to the harmonious coexistence of nature and architecture. The cherry blossom tree is downstage right and partially in front of the wings because I thought it could be a visually interesting place for actors to hide behind or rest on and because every Japanese garden has a cherry blossom to remind those that see it of the frailty and beauty of life, it was necessary to include it on the design.. The rock structure downstage left provides a scenic area with japanese forest spirits on them. Japanese jizo rock statue spirits are derived from buddhist beliefs and are sought to be the savers of all beings from suffering. Due to the death of Lady Macbeth and the sanity spiral of Macbeth, these statues embody the importance of sanity and well...

...loyalty, or religious reasons. (psychology.about.com) When reading the above statement I think that it is important to point out the key words “unselfish, not because you feel obligated to out of duty, loyalty, or religious reasons”. By reading this it is my interpretation that in order to be altruistic you have to do something and NOT gain anything by doing it. What do you think? Now let’s breakdown the various reasons I could have done this: 1. To ensure that I did my random act of kindness as assigned by the school 2. To get a good feeling and a sense of pleasure, knowing that I helped someone 3. To make sure that I got points on my card 4. To speed up the process so that I didn’t have to wait in line any longer 5. So that the lady behind the counter thought that I was a decent guy All of the above reasons are completely valid, although if you take ANY of the reasons into consideration, would the random act of kindness still be considered altruistic? In fact is there such a thing as altruism? I understand that it seems quite pessimistic, but when...
