Alan´s character is a perfect representation, of this quote. He is portrayed as an extremely narrow-minded person. His actions cause conflict in the community, resulting in people getting hurt. Secondly, Old Jacob is another character in the novel that performs acts of intolerance. Furthermore, Joseph is a character who strictly believes in his religion, and bias towards his own views.
