...A Comeback for the UAW? With the currently aging workforce and the demands on both domestic and foreign auto workers in the US the overall desire for labor organization could be on the upswing during the next decade. With almost two thirds of the current manufacturing workforce poised for retirement and lower wage workers being hired unions could gain an infusion of both support and energy. Couple this with a downward trend in the economy which stokes demand for lower costing automobiles could cause automakers to look for new ways to increase profits. The need for increased profits usually leads to layoffs and decreased wages this will add even more fuel to the union engines. The writer theorizes that with a majority of Detroit autoworkers at retirement age the new lower paid workers with few benefits may resent the high retirement packages of their retiring counterparts. (Noe, 2009) Do you think the new and younger workers, paid less and getting fewer benefits, will fight to keep retirees’ benefits? He couples this with the fact that Japanese automakers want to normalize wages with the areas in which the automobiles are being manufactured. Both reasons lead the author to believe that the workers on both sides will turn to the UAW (United Auto Workers) to help keep wages high and benefits in tack. I tend to disagree with some of the authors conclusions. I do believe the younger workers in Detroit will turn more fiercely to the UAW to protect high wages and benefits...

...Xerox’s Comeback Kim Luttman Bus 390 Instructor Suzanna Chavez National College November 01, 2009 Abstract Big business for years has been for the most part a man’s world. While women may have been part of the organization, the power, responsibility and leadership mainly rested in the hand of men. As for Xerox a multi-million dollar business, they were no different. A company that was founded in 1906 had several men at the helm, running a top notch company. As the years passed, profits soared and held that position for some time. Xerox was a great company, yet it gradually started to lose their momentum. As the profits turned into losses, the only thing growing was their debt. Xerox stepped out of 1990’s and into the 2000’s placed Anne Mulcahy (the first woman CEO of the once multi-million dollar company Xerox) into the struggling, over extended and drowning position of CEO. Xerox was now in the hands of a very capable woman. Mulcahy now known as a very powerful player in the business world has become one of the top leaders not only in Xerox but in America. The leadership of Mulcahy turned Xerox around and restored not only to the great company it was but only better. The powerful leadership of Mulcahy has set the precedence for yet another woman to take her place in the Xerox family. Ursala Burns has taken over the CEO position where Mulcahy ended with high expectations to continue, only to propel the Company farther into the future. A company was founded...

...A Web Research on Nokia’s Comeback Strategy in Smartphones I. Background of the Company http://www.presseportal.de/pm/120575/3329790 Nokia Corporation, founded in 1865, a Finnish multinational communications and information technology organization. The company had various industries in its 150-year history, originally founded as a pulp mill, and currently focuses on large-scale telecommunications infrastructures, and technology development and licensing. Nokia eventually entered into a pact with Microsoft in 2011 to exclusively use its Windows Phone platform on future smartphones. Its mobile phone business was eventually bought by Microsoft in an overall deal totaling €5.44 billion (US $7.17 billion). Stephen Elop, Nokia's former CEO, and several other executives joined the new Microsoft Mobile subsidiary of Microsoft as part of the deal, which was completed on April 25, 2014. Ramzi Haidamus, president of Nokia Technologies, said: "Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Nokia brand in an industry where Nokia remains a truly iconic name. Instead of Nokia returning to manufacturing mobile phones itself, HMD Global plans to produce mobile phones and tablets that can leverage and grow the value of the Nokia brand in global markets. Working with HMD Global and FIH Mobile Ltd. will let us participate in one of the largest consumer electronics markets in the world while staying true to our licensing business model." II. ...In life, there will be setbacks but for every setback that happens, there is an opportunity for a comeback. One comeback story that I’ve heard about is Peyton Manning and his neck injury. After a neck surgery in 2011, Manning started to lose motion in his neck and started to lose strength in his shoulder. It was revealed after a visit to the doctor that he needed a spinal fusion surgery. The doctors said that that the surgery could end his football career. This surgery caused Manning to miss the entire 2011 NFL season. Manning was lucky enough that the injury did not cause him to miss him the following season, but a new setback occurred. On March 7,2012, Peyton Manning was released by the Indianapolis Colts, this sent shockwaves across the league. Now, according to most, the most coveted free agent of the 2012 Free Agency, signed with the Denver Broncos. John Elway even allowed Manning to wear the number 18 even after it was retired. Peyton proceeded to play in the 2012 season after being cleared by doctors. The 2012 was a successful season as he made his twelfth pro bowl by silencing his critics and playing lights out. He lead the Broncos to the second round of the playoffs, which they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions. To represent how successful his comeback was that year, he was awarded the AP Comeback player of the year. In 2013, he had an even more...

...“Eddie Sue’s Child” is “not” what people said when they told others whose child I was, nor was it what I answered with when asked, “Whose child are you?” Eddie Sue’s Child was a catcall my friends started using against me when I became a teenager and when I was high school. They did so, I’m absolutely positively sure, because the name Eddie Sue is as crazy a mixed-up name as any that a parent could name their girl child. Since my friends could not humiliate the bearer of that crazy mixed-up name, why not torment the bearer’s defenseless child? I supposed was there only option. So with that, what is in the name, Eddie Sue? Not much, I’ll say! But it did offer a slick comeback for a few who dared to use Eddie Sue’s Child against me....

...highest level when it matters the most. You will make the game winning shot as time expires, or you will drive you team 90 yards in 2 minutes to win the football game. John Elway is credited with a mind blowing 47 4th quarter comebacks as quarterback for the Denver Broncos. John knew that if he had the ball late in the game and they were within a touchdown he was going to drive his team down for the game-winning score. Not only did he know, but by the end of his career opponents knew they could not let Elway have the ball let in the game if the Broncos were within a touchdown. This is definitely an edge that John Elway possessed. The edge is most commonly a mental advantage over opponents. By the time athletes reach the professional level, most either have it or they don’t. In the 21st century, the media has helped with some athletes gaining this edge. For example, in the fall whenever you would hear people in the media talk, they would always bring up Tim Tebow and how he is so good in the 4th quarter. He would find all kinds of different ways to help his team comeback in the 4th quarter to win football games. He would be a bad quarterback for three quarters, but somehow magically play great in the 4th quarter and lead his team to comeback wins. After hearing it so much on TV and radio people start believing that he has something special that allows him to play like he does in crunch time. To have the “Edge” can be a great advantage. Not only do you believe and...

...basketball tournament game, Josh and his friends are at a restaurant for a meeting at Pizza Pizza where they would talk about tomorrow’s basketball game. The meeting is happening because his friends want to make an agreement that if they are down in points, they would give the ball to Josh to make a comeback since he is the best player on the team. Joe: The team that we are going to face tomorrow is very hard to go up against. Josh, our teammates already made a decision to give you the ball in the final moments of the game to make a comeback if we are down in points. Josh: No! Can you give that job to someone else? I can’t be the one to handle all of that pressure Bob: You’re going to be fine. Don’t worry. Josh: I’m not going to do it. That’s way too much pressure. Rick: You have to do it since you are the best player on the team. Josh: Fine, I’ll do it. After the meeting at Pizza Pizza, Josh would continue to think about the decision that the team made for the finals in the basketball tournament game. Josh: (talking to himself) Our team is really good. How hard can the St. Henry basketball team be? I’m sure that we won’t be down in points. I don’t want to be the one to make a comeback for the team. Who could handle all of that pressure? My team doesn’t really need my help; I think that we are going to do fine tomorrow. The next day with one hour before the finals in the basketball tournament game, the Coach would call the entire basketball team to the locker room. Coach...

...the dictionary, identity refers to the character that makes someone(s) as to what they are. From my experience, influences and the like; I was not expecting to look for the identity of a group of beings, rather I was expecting finding, for example ones’ own identity. In this book, the author is expressing the loss of identity to a group that has slowly disappeared, however according to the author, are slowly making a comeback. This group is a group of, from what I gather, pastors that help people with their problems by showing them a way through God. While I was not expecting this, I found this even more surprising. I did not think that a group like this existed let alone was attempting to make a comeback. This group of Christian pastoral consolers are in just the right position to help the people that come to them. These pastors could help so many people, and help to connect with the people that come to see them through religion. I see this as being incredibly helpful to some. This group of Christian pastoral consolers, having gradually made a predominant comeback, could benefit people today. In today’s world, a lot of people are lost with no place to go. Going to a consoler makes some people feel as though they are what they think they are (if someone tells me I’m depressed, than I really am in a bad place..), don’t have time, or just don’t believe in what they are told. I believe that this group of Christian pastoral consolers that are slowly getting their identity back could...

...Levi’s versus Lululemon: Combat-sports championship bouts as an analogy for hostile displacement in monopolistic competition In this paper I describe the analogous correlation between the case of Levi’s Strauss & Co. versus Lululemon Athletica Inc. and a similar phenomenon in combat sports, such as boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA), where a participant rises to dominance, becomes a champion, holds the title for some time and is then unseated by an unlikely contender. The most recent and arguably infamous example is of Ronda Rousey’s loss to Holly Holm in the UFC (other examples include Tyson vs. Douglas (boxing) and Silva vs. Weidman (UFC)). For the purposes of this paper, Rousey represents Levi’s (traditional market dominance) and Holm represents Lululemon (disruptive innovation). UFC fighters typically prepare for a fight on two fronts. The first is a general technique and conditioning program tailored to their particular strengths and weaknesses. The second is a specific strategy outlined by their coaching staff to deal with the precise tactics they believe the opponent will utilize. With this in mind, one concept that contributed to the demise of both Rousey and Levi’s is that of “tape”. A fighter’s coaching staff will watch as much footage – tape – of the opposing fighter as possible. There tends to be more tape on long-term champions than challengers for two reasons. First, simply, champions tend to have had longer careers and therefore more fights on tape...

...vaccinated then it shouldn’t be a problem for the rest of the population. However, it will be a major problem for the children who are not vaccinated because they have an increased risk at acquiring diseases that could be prevented by a vaccine ( ). If there are a lot of children who are not being vaccinated then this could lead to the break down of herd immunity which would then lead to disease outbreaks. Those who chose to not vaccinate their children need to stop thinking about vaccinations as a joke and realize that not having their child may lead to not only their childs death but also the death of many others. It is being seen that as more parents choose to not vaccinate their children diseases that have been almost eliminated make a comeback as these children head to school. These outbreaks that have occurred, such as the whooping couch in 2010 which caused the death of ten people, result in the implementation of...
