In Today’s culture, the original horror movie genre, takes the horror movie form seriously, and provides an often-scary portrait of evil. While it’s remakes, or rebuts, know in today’s society, are more vulgar, and tell more of a back story, in the inner mind, of the antagonist, however this being in a comical, yet more violent and macabre demeanor. The two prime examples of this are, John Carpenters Halloween (1978), and Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007). The Original Halloween was a low budget film, with a budget of one hundred thousand dollars. With a cast P.J Soles as Linda, Nancy Loomis as Annie, Charles Crypers as Sheriff Meeker, Donald Pleasance as Dr. Sam Loomis, and introducing Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. The quick back-story of the movie, takes place on Halloween night 1963, the night he killed his sister. Then flashes back to the present, where he escapes from the sanitarium on a dark, and rainy night, and leads to the stalking of his sister Laurie Strode, and the taught and torment he puts her, and her friends through. The script was written in a form of pubertal darkness. The antagonist is known as the shape. The key visual points of the movie, are from the (POV) of the antagonist. This was one of the first movies, ever to put you, in the eyes, of the antagonist. This set a trend for other feature films, that occurred on later dates. For example, the title's The Hills Have Eyes, and Black Christmas. This gave you the story from the antagonist, and showed, a greater essence, of the evil lurking around, and praying on the innocence. An example used in the movie, fate is like a mountain it stands, were man passes by, we all choose our own fate. Giving the script emprises on the hidden essence of evil. Rob Zombies Halloween Remake tells the story a bit differentially; it takes you into the everyday life of the antagonist (Michael Myers), while there was only a brief interlude in the 1978 version of the film. This shows an hour long in depth of the life of Michael Myers, and how he thrived in internal darkness. With an inner growing of no remorse of fear, nothing just blank and emotionless, and his perpetual need to torture and torment animals, and photo them, to his sudden out bust of vengeance, against his abusive father, and promiscuous sister. Then it shows how he was locked in a mental institution, that further prolonged his rage, and how is mother could not deal with the fact, of the evil, violent son she bared, and the inner sorrow, and pain lead to her tragic suicide. Then it flashes to his escape, and the stalking of his sister Laurie Strode (Angle Myers), and the stalking and torment of her, and here friends Annie and Linda on Halloween night. Starring a cast of Taylor Scout Chapman (Laurie strode), Danielle Harris as (Annie), Kristina klebe as (Linda), Brad Dourif as (Sheriff Bracket), And Malcolm McDowell as (DR. Sam Loomis). The special of this remake, were far different from the original, they were based on more blood, and gore, and a lot of graphic violence. Were as the original, was more discreet in the since of the death scenes. When it comes to the time that each story takes place there are some similarities, and yet there are many differences. The original Halloween took place in the year 1978, the view on society, and views were very different back then. Things that Laurie, and her friends did, for example partying, drinking, and the use of marijuana, was all kept hidden from the parents. They kind of knew, what the kids were up to, but yet it was never confronted, and kept a secret. They were smart alicks, but not in a vulgar way. They walked to and from school, it was a different, and much personified as safer time. Unlike in the now in today’s society, that is one aspect that brought fear, to the audience, the fact of this evil lurking around, a quiet small town community. As in the remake which took place in the year 2007, with the back-story, being told in the early 1990s. Laurie in this movie is far different from Jamie Lee Curtis version, in the original. She drives instead of walks, she is very smart, yet wise for her own good, and a promiscuous, nature, about her. While the original personification of Laurie, was a well behaved, and had strict family morals, that she followed. She was always doing something, to help someone else, before her self. Especially when it came to the children, that she was looking after. While in this movie Laurie seems more worried about her self, and dwells on her own personal issues, and problems, she seems more self absorbed. While Linda, and Annie’s characters, is very loud vulgar, and obnoxious. Nothing like the two girls in the original film. The other main difference is the fact that people know that Laurie, is Michael Myers’s sister, the sheriff, and the authorities seem to all know, who she really is. As in the original film, No one knew about Laurie until she found out, from DR. Loomis nurse, in the second sequel to the film, in 1981, taking place in the same night. The last thing that differs from both is the endings of both of the films. In the original the conclusion takes place at the house across the street, were Laurie was babysitting, where Dr. Loomis shoots Michael off the balcony. In the remake the conclusion takes place, at the Myers house, were Dr. Loomis is almost killed, and Laurie is the one who shoots Michael, and they go off the balcony together. Then She walks through the dead quiet streets, in the dark and rainy night. In conclusion today’s horror movie genre, differs from the form of the originals of yesterday. The new aged horror is based on blood, and gore. While the original horror genre, seems to put a greater focus, on the evil, with in the shadows of darkness. But yet both stories are written, keeping the same characters, and telling the same story, just in a different time, with a different background.
