The Controversy Of Political Parties

I believe that political parties are necessary in the American system of government. Each party is an outline for the basic American voter. I would say that the average American doesn't fully research every belief the politician they voted for has. But, with the title republican or democrat it gives the public a rubric of alleged beliefs so that they know who they should represent. What I mean is the public has different beliefs, and that they are influenced by their religion and morals and based off that they can decide who to vote for. Obviously no politician is going to have a 100% match of beliefs as you. But, because you know what republican and democrat you will at least have a foundation from which to choose your politician from. Americans trust their party. …show more content…
For some reason people will have blind loyalty to a politician just because they identify as a republican. This goes with any party though. If we got rid of those labels as a whole and made it so people had to actually research what politicians believe in, I think we would elect people because of who they are as a person and not what party endorses them. Many people vote without doing research strictly based off of the party they affiliate with. If we get rid of parties I also think it will give the little man a better

Writing Assignment

...ASSIGNMENT #1 When America became aware of President Obama’s plan to address the nation’s children, controversy over the event made headlines across the nation. According to USA Today the controversy was started by Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer warning the nation that Obama was going to use his speech to the children to spread his “socialist ideology” and “liberal lies.” The issue was then exaggerated even more by conservative bloggers, radio commentators and Fox News to add to the “fear mongering” started by Greer as stated by USA Today. The controversy started by Jim Greer did not stop there. The Department of Education had suggested to the Obama administration to include a lesson plan along with the speech urging the students to write letters to themselves about, how they would help the president. This did not sit well with many parents and therefore the suggested lesson plan was taken out of the speech format. The change in the format along with the White House posting the transcript of the speech on its’ website helped alleviate the concerns of many, even Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer. According to The News- Gazette.com “After they got a look at the text many critics, including Greer, backed off, and some schools agreed to show the speech after all.” Even though the release of the transcript proved that the speech did not have political undertones to the message there were still parents that did not want their kids to listen to the discourse...

Chapter 1 2. What are the controversies surrounding the mural of Robert E. Lee and Confederate History Month in Virginia (hint: they are related to the same issue!)? There were a series of debates surrounding whether or not a mural of Robert E. Lee should be placed by Canal Way built along the James River. The NAACP spoke against the mural, saying that Lee was an advocate for slavery since he fought for the Confederacy. Pro-Lee advocates, including former Ku Klux Klan leader, David Duke, voted in favor of the mural. The court finally decided to make the mural. The other controversy was the one about Confederate History Month. Republican governor, James S. Gilmore, and his predecessor wanted to declare April as Confederate History Month. The NAACP spoke...

How the Electoral College Works

...1996) said, “Our elections are free, it's in the results where eventually we pay.” Oftentimes, people vote based on public opinion or information obtained by the media. Voters should inform themselves on how the Electoral College works in order to make good decisions when voting for the president. Electoral College delegates elect the President. Voters elect Electoral College delegates. The Electoral College was created as a compromise between election by Congress or popular vote for the presidential election process. At the time, some politicians believed an election by popular vote was not good for the country, and others did not want to give that much power to the Congress. Although the Electoral College has had critics and controversy since its beginning, it has delivered a President and a Vice President in 54 elections. Our founding fathers formed the Electoral College in Article II, Section I, of the United States Constitution, it states, “each state shall appoint, in such manner as the legislature thereof may direct, a number of electors, equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which the state may be entitled in the Congress (U.S. Constitution, 1787)”. The Constitution does not state the name ‘Electoral College’, the term started in the 1800’s. The Electoral College has proven to be durable and adaptable under the Constitution. Before the 12th Amendment, each state chose the number of electors equal to the number of people representing...

Reconstruction in the 1800s

...Chapter 1: Reconstruction There is controversy in the North and South because of the end of a brutal civil war. The controversy is over diversity of what the government should be and what to make of the African Americans. The disagreement was supposed to be solved by Reconstruction but it ended up being abandoned. Abandoning the Reconstruction defiantly ruled against the blacks. It meant back to the low end of the totem pole. It wasn’t quite slavery but it might as well be. They were stuck share cropping and most didn’t have land or hardly a penny to their name. Hahn tries to describe the political position held by blacks, describe the struggles to expand their rights and the value of their opinion, and expose the space between blacks and whites. Hahn talks about to political parties, Radical Republicans and the Union League. These parties were both for the voting rights of blacks and equality. Hahn mentions a reverend in a paragraph that seems to express their beliefs: “It was arduous and extremely dangerous work, for as organizers trekked out to where the mass of freedpeople resided, they fell vulnerable to swift and deadly retaliation at the hands of white landowners and vigilantes. Having organized the Mount Olive Union League Council in Nottoway County, Virginia, in July of 1867, the Reverend John Givens reported that a “colored speaker was killed three weeks ago” in neighboring Lunenberg County. But Givens determined to “go there and speak where they...

15th Amendment

...Constituent Assembly (led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) enriched our constitution by the same process of borrowing and/or adapting from models and concepts of foreign constitutions. For example: collective responsibility of ministers to Parliament and functions of parliamentary committees were taken from UK system, the concept of fundamental principle of state policy from India and Ireland, the provisions of human rights and Judicial review from US constitutional jurisprudence. Such borrowing is a recognised practice partly due to the fact that the functions to be discharged by a modern state are fundamentally similar all over the world such as legislation, administration and adjudication. A realisation that the goal of divergent political systems is to perform the same functions underscores the needs for enriching a state’s own constitution from the experience...
