Whenever, people think about America, they think that it is such a wonderful place to live in, based on how the media lets people perceive it to be. Once seeing through the facade of things in this country, people begin to understand how really messed up the U.S. really is. Therefore, seeing through the lies it reveals the cruel truth that many people choose to ignore. Throughout, reading “Kindred” by Octavia Butler, she expresses that the character, Dana, was somewhat blind to see through the facade of Rufus, and Dana repeatedly put her life at risk in order to save him from losing his life. Additionally, Rufus seems not only try to get his life at risk, but Rufus always seems somewhat entertained to see Dana’s presence when she is transported in time to rescue him from losing his life. Thereby, Butler promotes to her readers that people should learn the whole truth, before they buy into the facade. On the other hand, Butler promotes to her audience that actions speak louder than words.
