...to do some research on this film because I never seen the whole thing and it also has been a long time since I saw the parts that I did. I needed to brush up on the film so that I could make sure I knew what I was speaking of. After I had reviewed the research I have done, it turns out that Andy was right about The Dark Knight being the most popular film in the summer of 2008. It turns out that the film was first released in Australia, on July 16, 2008; it was two days later July 18, 2008 that it was released in North America. It wasn’t till July 24, 2008 when it was released in the United Kingdom. With over $1 billion in revenue worldwide and it is the seventh highest- grossing film of all time. I found that he was also correct when he stated that the film was a continuation from Batman Begins. The Dark Knight was filmed in many different places but the main filming took place in Chicago. The other parts took place in several parts of the United States, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. The Dark Knight is a film about a superhero, which was directed and co- written by Christopher Nolan. The film was also produced by Charles Roven and Emma Thomas. The Dark Knight was based on the DC Comics and is part of Nolan’s Batman film series. Christian Bale played the lead character (Batman/Bruce Wayne). Some other main characters that played in the movie are Heath Ledger (joker), Gary Oldman (James Gorden), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel Dawes) and Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent). Each and every...

...Josh Radcliff The Dark Knight Essay The Joker is pure evil. His only purpose in destroying Gotham City is because he likes to wreck havoc on the world . He already escaped prison once. He is slowly tearing Gotham City apart. Batman has no choice; he must kill the Joker. Utilitarianism is the main ethical system that supports Batman killing the Joker. Because Utilitarianism is a consequentialist system, the morality of an act depends solely on its consequences, and its main focus is on utility, the belief that an act is morally good if it results in the greatest good for the greatest number of people, any stunt that the Joker plays is considered an immoral act because only he receives pleasure from his acts of crime while thousands of others suffer. When Batman traps the Joker, he has to decide between killing him or letting him go, and as defender of Gotham City, he has to take the peoples' well being into consideration. In making his decision, he also has to acknowledge the idea of Hedonism, which states that pleasure, or the absence of pain, is the only thing good or desirable for all people. Ultimately, when making a Utilitarian decision, Batman must choose the option that gives the highest kinds of pleasure to the maximum number of people. In order to do this though, it is ideal that Batman takes the viewpoint of a "disinterested and benevolent spectator," as John Stuart Mill suggests. When making a Utilitarian decision, Batman first subconsciously has to decide what...

...Oral presentation In the film ‘The Dark Knight’ the director, Christopher Nolan, uses many significant scenes throughout the film to present certain themes and ideas to the audience. To do this, Nolan skilfully uses a variety of techniques to present these ideas, which help to develop and craft the narrative. One of the most important scenes in ‘The Dark Knight’ which uses a number of these film techniques is The Party Scene An important technique used in The Party Scene is the Camera Work. Half way through The Party Scene, The Joker is seen holding a knife to Rachel’s head, as he recounts his terrifying past. The camera in the scene circles around the two, with a slight low angle, and blurs out the rest of the party guests. These three camera techniques create a feeling of sickness, fear and intimidation as the audience can only focus on the Joker, much like Rachel. Rachel is presented as a very strong character throughout the film, yet trembles in the Jokers presence in this scene. These camera techniques show the audience how the Joker can instil fear into even the strongest and most respectable characters. Whilst the camera work in The Party scene helps develop the audiences understanding of the Joker, it also helps the audience understand Batman, and why he is so feared by Gotham’s criminal society. Towards the end of The Party scene, Rachel is thrown out of a window in the top floor of one of Gotham’s many skyscrapers. Without hesitating the Batman follows Rachel out the...

...The Dark knight After watching and reviewing American films in this class, it is my turn to submit my favorite movies and justify their importance in the film industry. Out of all the movies I have seen, the only one that had emotional impact with me was the 2008 film, Batman – The Dark Knight. The movie shows the dangerous impact of criminals in Gotham city and how to deal with it. Batman, Bruce Wayne was played by (Christian Bale). Bruce with out the batman suit is a rich and carless guy who has one goal in life “Girls”. However, the real Batman is very controversy to this, he acts as an uncovered honor hero who wants to protect Gotham city from criminals, especially the Joker (Heath Ledger). The joker has nothing important in his life. Everything is worthless he killed for only one purpose, fun. The joker started in the movie by interrupt a group of criminals who are scared by the new Gotham’s hero, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) the district attorney who is aiming to be the next governor, and if he reduces the amount of crimes in Gotham city he may have a better chance to be the next governor. However, after an incident made by the Joker Harvey’s face was burned, also his mind too was burned with criminal thoughts. The Batman and lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) decided to cover Harvey’s last attempts as a criminal and let him die with an honor. In addition, Harvey and Bruce both have some emotion to Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal). The movie shows great fights between the...

...“The Dark Knight” is a film based on DC comic book character Batman and his fight to protect his home, Gotham City, from the antagonist, the Joker. Director Chris Nolan provides the viewer with not only an action film, but also a thought-provoking masterpiece. The film focuses on the thin line between sanity (Batman) and madness (Joker) and how anyone can easily turn from good to evil, the example being Harvey Dent becoming Two-Face in such a short time. The film deconstructs previous ideas of the “hero” by portraying Batman not as a hero, but as an “anti-hero”. He appears to be the hero, but possesses no superpowers and also causes mayhem in his city, much like a villain would. The Joker represents postmodernism because he threatens our “givens” (Instead of soldiers who are allowed to die, threaten the mayor and hospitals). He makes people question everything, creating chaos. The Joker also represents post-modern beliefs because he challenges our idea of the conventional villain, who is supposed to represent pure evil, by comparing himself to the hero, Batman, using such examples as how they are both freaks to society and how they were both created by one bad day. The most important instance of post-modern values is the Jokers entire character. He believes the average man lives with a bloated sense of humanity’s importance and a frail and useless notion of order and sanity. He sees human existence as mad, random, and pointless and the world as a psychotic carnival of animals...

...In the novel Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, it begins with the mutants taking control over the Gothman and they claim themselves as the ruler of the world. I would change the way how the mutants dress by making them wear a green costume with a black mask. Instead of them using guns as weapons I would make them use swords. Their laughter should sound like the evil green joker to manifest their evil plan. One scene I would like to put in the movie is when Batman drives the Batmobile to destroy the mutants by adding fireworks behind the background to expose his power. Instead of Batman almost beaten to death by the mutants and save by Robin. I would change that he is able save himself by pepper spraying the mutant eyes and defeated him by...

...Batman Dark Knight Project In the movie the movie Batman: The Dark Knight there are many overlapping complexities between characters in the movies. For example, Harvey Dent believes in bringing forth justice which can also been seen in the characteristics of batman. However, Harvey Dent conforms to society and follows the law (in the beginning) like Inspector Gordon. One key characteristic that Inspector Gordon has is that he is incorruptible like Batman himself. Batman doesn’t conform to society, he’s an outcast like the Joker. Also Batman and the Joker share another similarity which is they mask there identity. Lastly Harvey Dent at the end is physically two sided which can be seen in Bruce Wayne whose personality is two sided by being batman. In the movie I feel Bruce Wayne represents an actual dark knight. Bruce is a true knight at arms for he wields his weapon to protect the weak and fight the evil. He protects them out of sense of responsibility not for gain. He sacrificed his personal life for the good of people making him a true knight. He's dark because of his persona, manner and style. He wears all black and I feel that his style of justice is found unethical in today’s society and one may say his tactics are “dark”. With all this being said Bruce Wayne embodies the features of a “Dark Knight". Batman’s ideologies and philosophies consist of being a hero who is willingly to sacrifice everything, even himself, for city of Gotham and its people...

...Ruben Baez Professor Ward English Comp. 3/28/15 The Dark Knight Compare and Contrast Essay In the movie The Dark Knight we have Bruce Wayne (Batman) which is basically the hero of Gotham City. With every hero of course there has to be a villain also. The villain of Gotham City is in fact the Joker. I believe Batman and the Joker are one of the best hero villain combos out there, they go together perfectly and their both fit for each other, it wouldn’t be the same if the joker wasn’t around and if batman wasn’t around with the joker. On the other hand though they are far different from each other they have many different qualities, different things that motivate them to do what they do, and their personality and what approaches they make towards things. So in this case I’ll be talking about the similarities and the differences of both the Batman and the Joker in the Dark Knight movie. Batman’s character in the movie is obviously more the hero type, he is serious about protecting his city from crime, he covers his true identity but in reality his obviously a very wealthy person which allows him to have the things he owns like his powerful suit, his indestructible car, and all the gadgets he uses while his fighting crime. The joker on the other hand in my eyes is the perfect villain, his a complete psychopath in the movie, he dresses like a clown and wears make up to make him look a bit disturbing, he had a rough past, his a pyromaniac, he has no cares in the world, and he...

...Music has been in movies since the first “silent films” were made, and continues to be one of the most influential factors in determining how beautiful and lighthearted, or how horrific and tragic a film is perceived by the audience. This paper will provide an analysis of Hans Zimmer’s composition of the soundtrack to the movie The Dark Knight Rises. This dark, intense and emotionally pounding soundtrack pairs perfectly with the tension between the mysterious Batman character and his latest evil nemesis Bane. We will examine the musical characteristics of two selections from this soundtrack, “Gotham’s Reckoning” which has become Bane’s primary theme music that will forever connect the audience with feeling of impending doom and “Rise” the epic closing number in the movie that connects us to the previous films in the trilogy. There is a reoccurring rhythmic pattern used throughout this soundtrack that seemingly connects each piece in the work. The chant heard throughout the score gives a primitive depth since the words are unrecognizable. Hans Zimmer uses synthesizers and samplers to create this modern score which is closely tied to the music previously written for the two prior films from this trilogy. There are even some parts of the new musical pieces that contain excerpts or samples from the prior films soundtracks. Zimmer uses this technique in order to recreate the emotions from the prior films to establish an immediate connection with the familiar characters. ...

...The Coexistence of Good and Evil “Where there is much light, the shadow is deep” (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe). This quote can be interpreted as a metaphor for the fact that good, the light, cannot exist without evil, the shadow. This is shown in Christopher Nolan’s film “The Dark Knight” in which, the protagonist Batman attempts to defend the City of Gotham from his rival, The Joker. This film proves that good and evil must always co-exist. Good and evil are subjective terms; the concept of being virtuous is a matter of perspective. Batman is considered to be the hero of the film, but one could argue that The Joker is the true, misunderstood, hero. At the beginning of the film, The Joker robs a bank and kills his crew members, which is a violent crime justified with good intent. The bank he robbed was operated by a mafia, and by causing this destruction, he was able to draw the mafia members out of hiding, and decrease the crime rate in Gotham City. Similarly, Batman is not as innocent as he seems. The Joker illustrates this by provoking Batman with a difficult choice. The Joker states that for every day Batman does not reveal himself that people will die, Batman refuses regardless, and becomes seen as an enemy of the city as a...

... Revision Practice Angelia Renee Cady Com/156 May 15, 2011 Jennifer Iott Revision Practice After reading the draft of The Dark Knight, if there are any revisions to be made to improve this paper, keeping in mind the concept behind essay revision. Revising is looking for ways to make the ideas that this essay is built from clearer, stronger, and more convincing. When revising, always keep in mind that he/she may have to add, cut, move, or change whole sentences or paragraphs. When writing something like, “The Dark Knight was the most popular film of 2008,” there needs to be some kind of fact that backs this statement up. The awards that the film was nominated for or won can be mentioned to help give this comment some weight behind it would be appropriate. If it were me writing this essay on the Black Knight, I would want the world to know how good the story line is. Rearranging the order of the paragraphs would be appropriate, it is my opinion that the writer jumped ahead of himself/herself. I find that the information is a little scattered. Paragraph #2 and #3 needs to change places. The information in paragraph three is a continuation of the first paragraph. It gives the audience a look into why they will always view The Dark Knight as an outstanding movie. All the information concerning Batman Begins should follow after the second paragraph. This means, the original second paragraph is the third paragraph...

...The batman legend Aspects of mythology in batman legend: example of the dark knight trilogy There are a lot of differences and similarities between the heroes and gods of the Greek and romans myths and traditions compared to the superheroes and legends of the comic’s books and Hollywood movies. Scholars often conduct researches to define and analyze pieces of art to check its methodological features in terms of form and content. In this humble research we will try to shed the light on the aspects of mythology in batman as a superhero and a legend taking the dark knight trilogy as an example to examine how mythology is represented in this masterpiece by the brilliant director Christopher Nolan. The dark knight trilogy consists of 3 movies: batman begins (2005), the dark knight (2008) and the dark knight rises (2012). The three of them was directed by the filmmaker Christopher Nolan and were inspired from the batman character created by Bob Kane. ``Batman Begins`` movie was basically about the origin of the batman legend as a force of good in Gotham city. In the light of his parents tragic robbery murder (Bruce Wayne) took a journey around the globe looking for meaningful values and tools to fight injustice and criminals. He was taken in by a strange instructor called Ducard and taught him how to become a ninja in what is named the League of Shadows after that he came back to Gotham and uncover his masked crusader (Batman) in order to start fighting gangsters to end their...

...REVIEW ON THE DARK KNIGHT RISES The Dark Knight Rises(New York , July 16, 2012) is a superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan. It is the sequel to The Dark Knight (2008).The film introduces two main characters to Nolan's series: Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy). It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane. Making of The Dark Night Rises seems very excellent, because it is focused on nice editing style, camera focusing, attractive environment & technology. I enjoy every scene and it attracts me a lot. In this movie director hasn’t give any extra power to the hero. He uses his technological power to attain his mission. Christian Bale can perform his shooting excellently. He played the role of Batman perfectly. It mainly entertains me by its main theme & script writing. I find many...
