There are many differences and similarities between the Devil's arithmetic book and movie. Some of them can really change your point of view on the plot, characters and theme. Here is a summary of the storyline A girl named Hannah doesn’t want to attend her family's annual Seder where they remember what they had to go through in the concentration camps. When she opens a door as one of the traditions they do, but when she opens the door, she is transported to the past where she meets a bunch of people that are in the camps with her. In the book Hannah is wearing different clothes and everyone calls her Chaya. Also Rivka is Hanna’s cousin in the movie, but she is just her friend in the book. In the book Chaya works in the kitchen, but in the movie her job is to hoe the ground. It is Rivka’s job to hand out the every bowls. She says that she calls them every bowls because you use them for everything like Eating, washing, and everything else that you may need them for. She also says not to lose them because if you break or lose them then you don’t get a replacement. Some other differences are that they have a little cedar in the cabin that they are in and when she opens the door a guard is standing outside. The book and the movie have their bests and worsts but they are both great and have a great storyline. I think the book was better because it gives more detail and explains more about the camps. I would recommend the book to my dad because he likes reading about history and I think he would like
