An amazing early 80’s throwback that captivated a generation by combining classic story elements with twist and turns, is not one to miss! The netflix series is written by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, also known as “The Duffer Brothers”. The show borrowed story elements and plot devices from classic sci-fi and horror television shows and films from the past such as, the goonies, et and the X-files. Due to the great script writing and the fantastic cast, the Netflix series puts a new spin on every one of those sci fi and horror films, allowing every line of dialogue to seem like it has never been said in the past. Along the way they discover a girl with special abilities who is on the run from “Bad men”. The town and the boys begin to uncover a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secrets of a government lab, portals to another world, sinister monsters, and supernatural forces. The boy Will’s, mother “Joyce Byers” who is on the edge of sanity desperately trying to find him, is convinced he is alive, as she finds ways of communicating with him. With quite a few emotionally satisfying plot twists, this first season of Stranger Things goes to places you would not expect. The cast that they were able to assemble for this series was outstanding. Both the screenplay and actors do an amazing job at conveying a sense of the 80’s. There’s a specific spotlight on Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the girl, the group of boys find in the woods with special abilities. The amount of weight that her character has on the story was a very big burden for her to hold on her shoulders. Luckily, they cast the perfect girl for the role, making every choice she makes, line of dialogue she delivers, or emotional response to an event, astonishing. The three main boys also do a very commendable job, with their sense of humor. I really enjoyed that they all had to depend on others for help. Dustin had to depend on steve, eleven depended on Hopkins and lucas depended on his girlfriend. However, the biggest standouts were Jonathan (Will's older brother) and Nancy (the older sister of Will's best friend). Their chemistry seemed a bit off at first, but it blossoms as the season progresses, making for some great character moments. Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) who played “Will’s” mom, also put on a great show in the series. Her acting allowed you to receive different emotions as she allows you to feel like a mom on the edge of sanity trying to convince others that your son is still out there.
