Many people consider the hour of study, as very important. Student need to develop time management skills. They must realize that there is a time to be in a class, a time to study, time for family, and time to socialize. The critical issue is recognition that there must be an appropriate balance. The more appropriate question is, “How can students study more effectively?” The use of gadgets as phones, video games, computers, text messaging, television, music, ipod, and tablet can all decrease the ability the student to learn. Whatever is going on inside one’s mind is going to affect the study habits of the student. Television is a good tool to receive news and entertainment. However, owning a television causes problems, one of which is how to manage time that must be spent in watching T.V and time that must be spent in studying. ...Question 1: Explain with an example of counselling problem, how you would apply one theory of learning to solve a problem? Learning is defined as a permanent change in behavior, through experience, study or instructions. Learning theories generally explain how people learn. Ogbebor (2007), states that theory of learning tends to probe into the ways learning occur in animal and man. Learning theories are generally classified into three categories which are; The Behaviorist Theory, The Cognitive Field Theory and the Social Learning Theory. However, there is a fourth theory of learning, which is known as the Humanistic Learning Theory. The importance of learning theories cannot be over-emphasized as they give us an in-depth knowledge of how human beings and animals learn and this knowledge tend to help us develop and modify appropriate ways of teaching the learners. The purpose of this paper is to show how we can possibly use one of these learning theories to solve a counselling problem and it is the desire or this writer therefore, to focus on the behaviorist learning theory which believes that learning occurs as a result of stimulus – response association and the interest of this group is on the overt behavior or human beings. Prominent among these exponents, are; The Russian scientist, Ivan Pavlov, Edward L. Thorndike, B. F. Skinner, Watson, Guthrie and C.L. Hull, among others. ...CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Individuals are really different; thousands would love to study at night before going to bed, while thousand others will love to study at dawn. Late night is normally quiet and you are unlikely to be disturbed by anyone. Besides you have longer hours to review all your notes and works unlike the dawn when you will have to race against time. A thorough review at night will help you remember the whole thing you have learnt while the hesitant studying at the dawn is highly prone to forgetting. This is true for a particular group of people. This is entirely against the theory of “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise”. Waking up the whole night to study for exams is sure to affect your health. Late night study is less productive as the mind loses concentration late at night. Lack of sleep affects your daily life. It weakens the strength of the students and you can lose focus during the examination. It will also lead to serious memory impairment, thus making no use of the hard work and study. Research has suggested that sleep and good memory are bed fellows. Burning midnight oil harms more than it serves. The researchers say that at least a good night sleep within 30 hours is needed to remember a new task later. Science has also said that teen brains work most effectively at night. However, the scientists concluded that a good night's sleep, which includes both slow-wave and REM (Rapid eye movement)...

...Chapter I INTRODUCTION Background of the Study Our character is a collection of our habits, and habits have a powerful role in our lives. Habits consist of knowledge, skill, and desire. Knowledge allows us to know what to do, skill gives us the ability to know how to do it, and desire is the motivation to do a certaintask (Covey, 1990). Habits are routines of behaviour that are repeated regularly and tend to occur subconsciously. Habitual behaviour often goes unnoticed in persons exhibiting it, because a person does not need to engage in self-analysis when undertaking routine tasks. Study skills include how a person studies, as well as the particular resources a person uses. They are intentional use of one or more cognitive processes to accomplish a particular task. Good study skills include note-taking, reading, summarizing, organizing, identifying important information, and meaningful learning and elaboration (Ormrod, 2008).They are generally critical to success in school, are considered essential for acquiring good grades, and are useful for learning throughout one's life. Study skills are the methods of researching and learning that are used to absorb educational information. It has been widely accepted in modern times that college is a time to learn, experiment, and grow. Academic performance is the commonly used gauge with which to determine whether or not a student has indeed learned what he has been taught. It is the ability of the student to apply academic...

...Accounting Education University of Mindanao Lord Eddie Aguilar Faculty, College of Accounting Education University of Mindanao Abstract The paper employed a simulation model to determine probability of passing the CPA licensure exam. The predictor variables of the study were GPA, pre-review grade, and the subject clusters of the exam. The study covered periods 2007-2011. It was noted that the performance of the Accounting Education for the period covered was found to be impressive. Pre-review and the GPA have high statistical influence in passing the board exam. The threshold GPA is 2.2 while 2.4 for the prereview. Of the subject clusters in the board exam, accounting problems have the highest impact in the actual board score followed by theory of accounts, management services, practical accounting problems 2, practical accounting problems 1 and the least yet still bear impact is the business law and taxation. The collegiate validation exam used as indicator of readiness showed statistical association with the actual exam. A simulated model revealed that the scores of management and services, auditing problems, audit theory, business law and taxation and accounting problems 1 have strong board outcome effects. The theory of accounts and accounting problems 2 showed no statistical significance.
