Noise pollution is a common phenomenon in our daily society. It is any sound that is interfere with human life. The noise is commonly produced by vehicular traffic, construction sites and other sources. It is the unpleasant sound that may affect nearly every aspect of life. It is unlikely produce the physical substances such as environmental pollution, but it will cause a lot of damages to both human and animals in many ways.
Noise pollution has serious effects on human health. This is a matter of great concern to the society. Hearing loss is the most probable outcome to the people who are always under this type of pollution. The sustained and loud noise can cause hearing loss. We may suffer from hearing impairment if we are exposed to this excessive noise for a long time. Therefore, occupational hearing loss is one of the common problems among the industrial diseases. Construction workers are most likely to be influenced by the noise pollution among all other jobs. The noise is hazardous to hearing in the construction industry. They are exposed to the excessive noise pollution in a long period. By retirement, many of them are having a noticeable hearing loss problem. This type of permanent hearing loss can never be repaired. It is sadly that it is impossible to restore hearing. Hearing impairment may lead to some accidents, because the people cannot hear the waning signals from others clearly, they may ignore the dangerous. It is also difficult for them to communicate with other people because it is hardly to hear what the others said. Therefore, we can see that there are a lot of ear protections made for the people who work in a noisy factory, in order to protect the workers’ ears. Advertisements also promote that the workers should wear hearing protectors when they are working. Hearing protection is required to prevent permanent ear damage caused by the noise pollution in the cities.
Emotional and behavioral stress, sleep disturbances are also the significance problems of the noise pollution. These types of stress and unwell sleeping are the leading causes to health problem. The high unpleasant sound may lead to a dramatic rise in the blood pressure, so does the heart rate. The heart can be damaged if your body remains in the state of tension. The heart problem, such as heart diseases may arise because of the increased heart pressure. Also, the excessive exposure to noise is often associated with adverse effect to the mental health. The high intensity sound increases the stress levels among people. It may make the people to have some anti- social behavior that they would not normally do, such as violence and aggression. The loud noise makes people tense and anxious. Beside, the noise pollution can affect the sleep quality by disturbing people’s sleeping cycles. If there has high and loud noise, it will make you feel annoyed and difficult to sleep. With continuing loud sound, such as airplane flying overhead during the night, it can wake you up multiple times. We all know that noise can interrupt a good night’s sleep, it keeps you awake and disturb people sleeping pattern. If you are not sleeping well last night, you will be tired in the next day. Lack of sleep can also lead to different kind of health condition, such as loss of focus, exhaustion and suffer from headache. These all may make the people decreasing their efficiency in working and lowering their working performance. Loud noise makes people divert the attention. Lack of concentration that required for doing a work making people inability to make correct decision, which may increase the accident rate.
The noise pollution also is a major threat to the welfare of wildlife. The noise pollution has made the earth an uncomfortable place to stay for animals. It affects wildlife varying between different types of animals and disturbs a functioning ecosystem. Most of the animals are sensitive to noise. From some researches, noise pollutions affect bird’s habits. The displeasing noise makes the birds difficult to communicate. Birds that make sound at lower frequencies are easily affected by the noise pollution. It may affect their ability to attract and socialize with others birds. The high noise levels make the male birds difficult to draw attention of the female birds. Even for the underwater animals, such as dolphin and whales, they feel discomfort due to the noise pollution from the submarines. Also, noise pollution may affect the feeding pattern of some animals. Some animals, such as owls and bats are using their shape hearing ability to hunt prey, but this ability have weakened due to the intervention of noise pollution. We can see that noise pollution threatens animals and reproduces the risk of life of spices which are endangered.
To conclude, noise pollution is displeasing human and animals’ life, also disrupting their activities. As we discussed the effects of the noise pollution above, we can see that noise pollution is a huge issue to everyone. It is impossible to eliminate the noise pollution, but we should try our best to reduce the amount of it.
