Treatment Most types if diarrhea will clear up on their own within a few days. Treatments may be as simple as elimination a food or medicine that you may believe started the disorder. If you are lactose intolerance, this may include foods or drinks that contain lactose. There are also pills that you can take to relieve the condition, these work by paralyzing the muscles in your intestines and allowing your body to absorb more of the liquid from your stool thus drying it out quite a bit. When the muscles in your intestines are paralyzed your digestive system will work slower and thus you wont need the washroom as often. You can also try eating yogurt with “live” cultures, these are friendly bacteria that will line the walls of your intestines to protect you from bad bacteria. Microbial Communities Found Within the Human Body.

...microbiota, a large fraction of them still remain unstudied and so therefore we have not yet understood the full extent as to the influence that they have on our physiology and development thus how effective our immunity and nutrition is. Some of these microorganisms, known as microbiomes live in the body in areas covered by epithelial cells and exposed to the external environment (the skin, oral cavity respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and the genitourinary system); these commensal microorganisms (normal microflora) such as bacteria, yeast and some virus co-evolved with their hosts, meaning they don’t cause any harm and are also beneficial. Commensal bacteria are important as they help us digest food, nutrient metabolism, tissue development as well as maintain a good mucosal immune system to prevent the colonization of bacterial pathogens in order to protect us from diseases. A variety of factors such as health, age, diet, lifestyle and hormonal state mean the numbers and types of these microorganisms present in and on the body continuously change and may disrupt the balance of heterogeneous organisms that coexist within us. Commensal organisms protect the host from pathogens by competing for sites of attachment and nutrients and by producing antimicrobial substances, this is known as colonization resistance. The immune system has a precise regulatory control (the mucosal barrier) to ensure defence against environmental threats but tolerate the commensal microorganisms...

Circumcision Of Males Essay

...controversy and questions surrounding the circumcision of a male penis and the effect that it has on his health and well-being. But the most concerned thought of this procedure is the effect that the medical procedure has on the reduction of the HIV virus. The HIV virus is very easy to spread throughout the body and could cause people to get AIDS. This is why the medical procedure is highly important to males. On some occasions, parents have done this procedure to their sons for religious and social reasons. Several studies have shown that the removal of the foreskin has lowered rates on the reduction of HIV viruses on men and caused them to have a healthier lifestyle, but does not have the same effect on the reduction of HIV virus in general. Penile circumcision is when they remove the foreskin from a man’s penis with surgical procedures. The foreskin is the surrounding skin that covers the top of a man’s penis, where it tends to gather most bacteria into the body. The removal is usually done on a newborn boy before they leave the hospital. In the Jewish religion for example, people plan a ceremony for the ritual circumcision’s of their boys which is known a bris. A Comparative of Alternative and Traditional Medicine

...Holistic medicine represents the idea that all the properties of a given system (physical, biological, social, etc.) cannot be truly determined or explained by its component parts alone. Instead, the system as a whole determines how the parts function together. Holistic medicine approaches your health by looking at the whole person, mind, body and spirit. It incorporates traditional medicine and also attempts to go beyond it by focusing on the "mind/body connection." This means that you focus on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of yourself as you work with your health-care provider to determine the root causes of your illness and find solutions through allopathic and/or alternative medicine. A holistic approach prescribes lifestyle, diet and activity plans that will promote overall health for the long term. The main emphasis in this health model is prevention of illness and proactive healthy living, and most solutions offered involve using natural products or physical adjustments intended to return the body to its intended healthy state so the body can heal itself. The concept of holistic medicine has been around for about 5,000 years. It originated in India and China, where it was a philosophy that a person should be treated medically as a whole and live...

Anemia and Chemotherapy

...Anemia in Chemotherapy Patients Anemia: Side Effect of Chemotherapy BIOS 260 Section B 2/4/2012 Anemia and Chemotherapy Patients For patients receiving chemotherapy, anemia can be a common side effect . The big question, though is, why is anemia a common side effect for these patients? In order to be able to answer that question, the understanding of what both anemia and chemotherapy is necessary. Once that understanding is clear, then the causes can be analyzed. From that analysis, treatments can be established. What is anemia? Generally speaking, anemia is a condition of low levels of red blood cells. Nutritional deficiency, chronic disease, and hemorrhage could all be particular causes. These conditions decrease the number of red blood cells and oxygen delivery to the cells and tissues. Anemia symptoms that a patient can experience are fatigue, energy loss, lightheadedness or dizziness, shortness of breath, headaches, pallor appearance, tachycardia and chest pain. There are many different types of anemia, such as iron deficiency, anemia of chronic disease, megaloblastic and hemolytic (Zelman, 2009). The classes that are the result of chemotherapy are iron deficiency and anemia of chronic disease. The difference is the class is based on the type of cancer that is being treated. Iron deficiency anemia is when the body does not have enough iron. When that occurs, the body will make fewer red blood cells or the red blood cells are too small. Iron deficiency...

Effects of Smoking

...The Effects of Smoking The harmful substances in cigarette smoke include:- * Tar * Carbon Monoxide * Nicotine Short Term effects of tar * It settles in the lining of alveoli causing th diffusion distance to increase. * The chemicals in tar cause an allergic reaction. This forces the smooth muscle to contract and narrows the lumen. * It destroys the cilia so mucus cannot be removed. It also makes the goblet cells secrete more mucus. * Bacteria and Viruses build up in the mucus and can block the bronchioles leading to infection. Long Term effects of tar * Smokers cough is an attempt to remove the mucus and bacteria blocking the bronchioles. * However, this cough damages the lining of the airways and alveoli. This is replaced by thicker scar tissue that reduces diffusion pathway and narrows the lumen as it replaces smooth muscle. The flow of air is restricted. * Infections due to the bacteria and viruses in the layer of mucus inflame the airways. This damages the epithelium. White blood cells try to remove the infection they use enzymes like elastase to get in to the airway. This damages the elastic tissue and can lead to bronchioles and alveoli bursting. Effects of Nicotine * It mimics the action of transmitter substances at the synapses. This makes the person feel more alert. * Nicotine causes adrenaline to be released. This raises heart rate, breathing rate and causes constriction of the arterioles. This raises blood...
