CHAPTER I RATIONALE OF THE STUDY Introduction Social Network is the most common network used by people having an internet connection. This is also the most widely used networking site in internet. This networking site is used for informing others and recreation. In this generation students can prove that social networking is the reason why high percentage rate of people can be identified. One of the social networking sites is Facebook. It has a lot of aspects and features that can help people to be entertained easily. The importance of Facebook is for us to have conversation like chat and video calls. One of the reasons why many students used Facebook is because they are easily influenced by other people who use Facebook too. The researchers want to determine why the students are said to be easily influenced by others, to know the effects of having facebook in minimizing their time in doing home works and a lot more. The purpose is for the researcher to determine if Facebook can positively or negatively affect the academic performance of the respondents.

Statement of the Problem This study aims to know the effects of Facebook to the academic performance of the selected fourth year high school students of Amazing Grace School S.Y. 2013-2014 and the purpose is to know if the effects will positively or negatively affect the academic performance of the respondents

1. How often do the respondents use Facebook? 2. What are the effects of using Facebook on the academic performance of the selected students? 3. How will Facebook affect the academic performance of the selected students? Hypothesis
There is no significant effect of Facebook on the academic performance of the selected fourth year students of Amazing Grace School S.Y 2013-2014.
