Title: THE EFFETS OF TECHNOLOGY TO THE STUDY HABITS AND LEARNING CAPACITY OF THE BSA-1A STUDENTS OF COLEGIO SAN AGUSTIN-BACOLOD
I.Introduction
In today’s generation, technology has become one of the basic needs of society. It is essential; therefore involved in the everyday life of man. This development has brought a lot of advantages and is the greatest contribution to the improvement of every nation but due to this, man had become too dependent on it, to the extent that it is being debated as to whether, dependence on technology limits or integrates the capacity of one’s mind. Education is the most affected sector of technology specifically the performance of students. Through technology anyone can easily-access and gain information just by a flick of a finger and in any type of gadget one can get his hands on. Because of this, the learning capacity and study habit has been totally changed from the way it used to be. It affects the full-potential and performance of a student which brings disadvantages and slow productivity thus, a resolution must be made in order for technology not to be the major impediment in the hope of the nation, which is the youth.
II. Statement of the problem:
Objective: To determine the effects of technology to a college student’s learning capacity.
Specific Objectives 1. To determine if the effects of technology to this group of students is positive or negative. 2. To determine how this affects their study habits and learning capacity. 3. To broaden their knowledge on using technology as a vital aid to their academic life. 4. Advantages and disadvantages of technology to the studying habits of the students.
III. Hypothesis
There is a two-way effect that technology can cause. One, it can be an addition to the betterment and upgrading of a student or it can be the start of lethargy thus causing unproductivity and utter dependence.
IV. Scope and Limitation
This study is to be conducted to First Year –Section A, Bachelor of Science of Accountancy students of Colegio San Augustin – Bacolod for the S.Y. 2015-2016, during both the first and second semester. The results of this study will not provide the absolute explanation and information; however, this study will still be of big help in relation to the problem. It may not be the whole percentage that is justifiable and significant but it can contribute to further research and studies.
V. Significance of the study The course of this study will be significant first and foremost, to the school. This will serve as a guide on how to use technology for its students and the whole academic community. Second is to the teachers, it will help them integrate technology into something that will only aid the students on their studies and not to depend on it fully. And lastly, this will most significantly help the BSA-1A students of Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod in the course of their academic journey and to help them use their full potential in their chosen future career. Through this, they will gain more information on the effects technology is contributing.
I. Definition of terms
Technology- is the collection of techniques, methods or processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation. Technology can be the knowledge of techniques, processes, etc. or it can be embedded in machines, computers, devices and factories, which can be operated by individuals without detailed knowledge of the workings of such things.
Social Media- are computer-mediated tools that allow people to create, share or exchange information, ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks.
Learning Capacity- Learning capacity refers to the way that individuals (and organizations as groups of individuals) are able to recognize, absorb and use knowledge.
Study Habits- are the behaviors used when preparing for tests or learning academic material.
Gadget- is a small tool such as a machine that has a particular function, but is often thought of as a novelty.
